      • 세자리 Schiff base ligand 금속착물에 관한 연구(Ⅰ)

        The tridenate schiff base legand, 2-(salicyliden imino) -p- cresol, has been synthesized from salicylialdehyde and 2-amino- p- cresol by Duff method. This schiff base ligand has been reacted with Pd(Ⅱ), Rh(Ⅲ) and Nb(Ⅴ) metallic ions to form new complexes: Pd(Ⅱ)C_14H_12NO_2·H_2O, Rh(Ⅲ)C_14H_12NO_2·2H_2O and Nb(Ⅳ)(C_14H_12NO_2)_2·2H_2O Cl. The compositions and structures of the ligand and complexes have been discussed by element analysis, Kahl Fischer's moisture titration method, thermal analysis, ultraviolet spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, ^1H-nmr spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction patterns and electric conductance, respectively. It seems the Pd(Ⅲ) and Nb(Ⅴ) complexes have the structure of tetra- , hexa-and oct-acoording system, respectively and the mole ratio of metallic ion to ligand for the Pd(Ⅱ) and Rh(Ⅲ) complex are 1:1, but Nb(Ⅴ) complexis 1:2. Pd(Ⅱ), Rh(Ⅲ) and Nb(Ⅴ) complex with tridenate schiff base ligand have been coordinated with one and two molecules of water in accordance with the kinds of complexes, and the Rh(Ⅲ) complex has the structure of dimer bridge bonded with oxygen atom. The Pd(Ⅱ) and Rh(Ⅲ) complexes are nonpolar molecules but Nb(Ⅴ) complex is a polar molecule which will be dissociated in Nb(Ⅴ)(C_14H_12NO_2)_22H_2O.Cl^- and has structure of 1:1 electrolyte. All of the complexes have phenomena of π- π^* in ligand and d-d and d-π^* charge transfer between ligand and metal.

      • Crown Ethers Thorium(Ⅳ) Nitrate Hydrate 착물에 관한 연구

        The hydrated thorium(Ⅳ) nitrate have been reacted with the crown ethers of the different cavity size in methanol and aceton solvent, respectively. The properties and structures of these complexes are discussed by the element analysis, Kahl-Fisher moisture titration, thermal analysis, X-ay diffraction, ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopy, and electric conductivity. All of the complexes and the nonaccordinated systems with the three, four and five molecules of the hydrates, and the mole ratio of metallic ion to crown ether ligands are 1:1. The structures of the all complexes are different in accordance with the kinds of solvents, but coordinating number and mole ratio are constant in all complexes. The molar absorptivity of the complex obtained in aceton solvent is increased by coordinated bonding of the thorium(Ⅳ) ion to the ligands because the coordinating power of molecule of aceton is larger than that of water. The hydrated thorium(Ⅳ) nitrate complexes with crown ethers have the structure of 1:4 electrolytes deduced from 466-479 ohm^-lcm M^-1. These complexes have been formed by the electrostatic attraction and it is found the hydrated thorium(Ⅳ) nitrate complex with 15-crown-5 ligand is the most stable because thorium(Ⅳ) ion is bonded inside of the ligands. Whereas the other complexes are bonded outside of the cavity of the crown ether because the size of thorium(Ⅳ) ion is smaller or larger than that of the other crown ethers.

      • Computer Program에 의한 란탄계 선택성 막전극의 감응전위 측정

        Having made the selective membrane electrodes with lanthanide fluoride and lanthanide oxalate, the response potentials of 〔F^-〕 and 〔C_2O^2-_4〕 were measured with the selective membrane electrodes and the measured data were treated by using computer program. It was concluded that the analytical experiment done by the application of A/D converter to the personal computer reduced the analytical error and enhanced the reproductivity by means of the development project of computer program. The results were as follows: 1. When the additional ratio of matrixes is 0.1%, the response potentials of 0.1% matrixes were better than 0.3% in the response potentials. 2. The response values of the membrane electride mixed with silicon rubber as matrix is higher than those of the electrode mixed with PVC. 3. The response values of the membrane electrode with reference electrodes were better than that of membrane electrode with calomel electrodes and membrane electrodes. 4. Contrary to the calomel and membrane electrodes the denser concentration of the reference electrode, the less-the electric potential. 5. The response potentials of the insoluble membrane electrodes were inveresely proportional to the size of metallic ions. 6. The stability was the highest, as membrane eletrodes were in to the solution over 24 hours. 7. The response potential of La_2(C_2O_4)_3 and LaF_3 were stable between the range of pH 4.5∼8.0 and pH 3.5∼7.5 respectively.

        정신보건법의 주요 쟁점 조항에 대한 선진국과의 사례 비교

        Objectives The Mental Health Act is an initiative aimed at changing and shaping mental health services and protecting human rights of persons with mental disorders. Since the Mental Health Act was legislated in 1995, four amendments have been made according to the issues that arose from public concerns. However, there are still many debates about the human rights protection of the mentally iII. This study aimed to provide information regarding major aspects of the Mental Health Act by comparing them among several developed countries. Methods Current Mental Health Acts of the state of Michigan in the United States, Scotland in England, the state of Victoria in Australia, and Japan were reviewed. Issues regarding the Korean Mental Health Act were collected from seminar materials, news media contents, and mental health professionals Results The definition of subjects in Korean Mental Health Act was more inclusive than other countries and was derived from a medical classification of mental illness. Family members or guardians were granted important responsibilities for deciding the involuntary admission of mentally ill patients in Korea and Japan. In Western countries, Mental Health Review Tribunals or courts have the primary responsibility for important decisions about mentally ill patients. The regulation of immediate dis- charge after request by voluntarily admitted patients was not enacted in all countries except Korea. The mandatory procedure for involuntary admission in Western countries includes an individual case review with personal interview by a Mental Health Review Tribunal or court. Conclusion The Korean Mental Health Act appears to meet the basic standards of Guidelines from international organizations. Our traditional culture and inherent health systems seem to influence the legal regulation of mental health service and might be related to the problems of human rights protection of mentally ill patients in Korea.

      • Differential Diagnosis for Inappropriate Upper Incisal Display During Posed Smile: Contribution of Soft Tissue and Underlying Hard Tissue

        The amount of upper incisor display (UID) during smile and conversation is one of the most decisive components in aesthetic judgment. The purpose of this study was to find which soft tissue and underlying hard tissue factors contributed to the amount of UID during posed smile (PS) and at rest posture (RP). The subjects consisted of 76 young adults (33 men and 43 women; mean [SD] age, 24.79 [2.29] y) with skeletal and dental class I relationship, normal overbite/overjet, and minor crowding (<2 mm). After checking reproducibility of the amounts of UID during PS and at RP in lateral cephalograms with facial photographs, 15 hard and soft tissue variables were measured, and statistical analysis was done. There was no significant sex difference in the amount of UID during PS and at RP. The amount of UID during PS significantly increased when anterior maxillary height was longer, lower gonial angle was larger, occlusal plane to sella-to-nasion plane angle was steeper, interlabial gap at RP was larger, upper lip length at RP was shorter and upper lip elevation during PS was larger. Multiple linear regression analysis to predict the degree of UID during PS generated a 4-variable model (adjusted R = 0.607): upper lip elevation (the dynamic soft tissue variable), interlabial gap and upper lip length (the static soft tissue ones), and anterior maxillary height (the hard tissue one). The diverse causes of inappropriate UID according to the soft and hard tissue factors need different treatment approaches such as orthodontic treatment, periodontal treatment, orthognathic surgery, botulinum toxin, or myectomy. The clinician can use these variables as a guideline for differential diagnosis of inappropriate UID.

        Efficient Selection Method for Drought Tolerant Plants Using Osmotic Agents

        An efficient method to select drought tolerant Korean native plants using in vitro culture system was established in this study. While the plant growths and root inductions of each plant were proportionately affected by concentrations of mannitol on in vitro culturing seven plant species to test tolerance to osmotic stress, growth index (GI) and number of root induction of Chrysanthemi zawadskii var. latilobum and Dianthus chinensis var. semperflorens plantlets were higher than the others in 125mM mannitol. In test with polyethylene glycol (PEG), plantlets of C. zawadskii var. latilobum and D. chinensis var. semperflorens showed higher GI and number of root induction than the others in 33.3mM. On testing whether the well grown plants under osmotic stress are tolerant to virtual drought stress, there were significant differences in the withering rates of C. zawadskii var. latilobum and D. chinensis and those of were Aster yomena and Centaurea cyanus after 12 days without watering. It was found that significantly lower stomata numbers were shown in both drought tolerant plants than the sensitive plants. Averages of the stomata circumferences and the stomata area in the plantlets of the tolerant species were larger than those of the sensitive plants D. chinensis var. semperflorens showed the lowest transpiration level per unit area. The highest stomatal area per unit area was found in C. zawadskii, followed by D. chinensis var. semperflorens, Aster yomena and C. cyanus. In conclusion, C. zawadskii var. latilobum and D. chinensis var. semperflorens were more tolerant to drought than other two species. Furthermore in vitro selection was successfully used to screen drought tolerance species of native plant species.

        원발성 위림프종에서 외과적 치료의 역할

        N/A Background/Aims: Prirnary gastric lymphoma is an uncommom tumor, constituting less than 5% of gastric malignancies. Optimal treatment of early-stage gastric lymphoma has been a matter of debate for several years. Our purpose in this study is to evaluate the exact role of surgery in the treatment of gastric lymphoma. Methods: Retrospective study of 63 patients, treated at the Dept. of Surgery, Yonsei Univ., College of Medicine from 1980 to 1994 was performed. Survival and multivariate analyses were done using the Kaplan-Meier method and Coxs proportional hazard model. Results: The mean age was 49.4 years, the ale to female ratio was 1.5:1 and the mean tumor size was 5.lcm in maximal diameter. The distribution of histologic grade according to the Working formulation was low-grade(n=24), intermediate-grade(n=32), high-grade(n=7) and high with low-grade(n=l). The distribution of stage according to the criteria of Musshoff was I(n=35), II-1(n=l 1), II-2(n=14), IV(n=3). Fifty two patients underwent gastric resection: subtotal(n=29), total (n=23) and the remaining 11 patients were diagnosed by laparotomy biopsy(n=4) and endoscopic biopsy(n=7) without gastric resection. Treatment modalities included surgery(S), chemotherapy (CT), and radiotherapy(RT) in the following proportions: only S(n=l9), S+CT(n=17), S+RT(n=4), S+CT+RT(n=12) and CT+RT(n=l 1). The overall 5-year survival rate was 72.5%. The 5-year survival rates according to stage were 87.3% in stage I, 76.2% in II-1, and 45.7% in II-2. No difference in survival rate was found according to treatrnent modality. Significant prognostic factors by univariate analysis were histologic grade, multifocality, lymph node metastasis, gastric resection and stage. Among them, independent prognostic factor by multivariate analysis was stage (p=0.0011). Conclusions: We suggested that surgical role in the treatment of early gastric lymphoma(stage I, II) may still be primary therapeutic procedure and the extent of sugical resection should be a standard radical gastrectomy with D2 or D2+a lymph node dissection. But in the intermediate or high grade tumor, multifocal lesions, LN metastasis and advanced stage, chemotherapy or radiotherapy should be considered as adjuvant therapy.
