      • A Quasi Single Stage Isolated Buck-Boost Mode Multi-input Inverter

        Aiming at shortcomings of single new energy power generation, such as unstable power supply, discontinuity and changing with climate conditions, a quasisingle-stage isolated Buck-Boost mode multi-input inverter and master-slave power management SPWM control strategy with smooth and seamless switching in different power supply modes are proposed. The circuit topology, characteristic of steady principle and power management strategy are fully investigated. The circuit topology is composed of a bidirectional isolated Buck-Boost DC converter with a multi-input selector switch in series, and a polarity inversion bridge. The master-slave power management strategy is consisted of n-1 input voltage control loops, n power distribution circuits and instantaneous output voltage control loop with independent power control, it can realize smooth and seamless switching in different power supply modes. Designed and implemented 500VA 80-110VDC/220V50HzAC prototype has excellent performances such as high conversion efficiency, high quality of output waveforms, strong load adaptability, smooth and seamless switching in different power supply modes, etc.

        Shear strength of match-cast-free dry joint in precast girders

        Shear keys in precast concrete segmental bridges (PCSBs) are usually match-casting which is very labour intensive. In this research, an innovative match-casting-free construction was proposed by leaving small gap between the convex and the concave castellated shear keys in the joints of PCSBs. Specimen experiment, shear strength analysis and numerical simulation were conducted, investigating the loading performance of this new type of dry joints, the gap dry joints. Compared with matchcasting joint specimens, it has been found from experiment that shear capacity of gap joint specimens significantly decreased ranging from 17.75% to 42.43% due to only partially constrained and contacted in case of gap dry joints. Through numerical simulation, the effects of bottom contacting location, the heights of the gap and the shear key base were analyzed to investigate strength reduction and methods to enhance shear capacity of gap joint specimens. Numerical results proved that shear capacity of gap dry joints under full contact condition was higher than that under partial contact. In addition, left contact destroyed the integrity of shear keys, resulting in significant strength reduction. Larger shear key base remarkably increased shear capacity of the gap joint. Experimental tests indicated that AASHTO provision underestimated shear capacity of the match-casting dry joint specimens, while the numerical results for the gap dry joint showed that AASHTO provision underestimated shear capacity of full contact specimens, but overestimated that of left contact specimens.

        Smart and recyclable Fe3O4@APTES-β-CD nanoparticles with supramolecular host-guest synergistic enhancement effect for 2-chloro- 4-nitrophenol removal

        A facile and efficient strategy was introduced to prepare p-tolylsulfonyl-b-cyclodextrin (TsO-b-CD). Subsequently, the smart and recyclable Fe3O4@APTES-b-CD nanoparticles were prepared via betweenFe3O4@APTES and TsO-b-CD. And then, the structures of TsO-b-CD and Fe3O4@APTES-b-CD were characterizedand analyzed. Finally, the Fe3O4@APTES-b-CD nanoparticles was utilized as a heterogeneousFenton-like catalyst. The catalytic performance of Fe3O4@APTES-b-CD for 2-chloro-4-nitrophenol (4-C-2-NP) were assessed and studied. Accordingly, the degradation process of 4-C-2-NP fitted the pseudofirst-order kinetics model. In the meantime, the catalytic activity of Fe3O4@APTES-b-CD was higher thanthat of Fe3O4@APTES-a-CD or Fe3O4@APTES-c-CD. More importantly, the Fe3O4@APTES-b-CD possessedgood regeneration and reuse ability. In addition, the possible reaction route and degradation mechanismwere proposed with synergistic effects. Consequently, the Fe3O4@APTES-b-CD can potentially serve as asmart and recyclable heterogeneous Fenton-like catalyst.

        Protective Effect of Schisandra chinensis Polysaccharides Against the Immunological Liver Injury in Mice Based on Nrf2/ARE and TLR4/NF-κB Signaling Pathway

        We have previously demonstrated the hepatoprotective effect of Schisandra chinensis polysaccharides (SCP) against the liver injury induced by alcohol, high-fat diet, and carbon tetrachloride in mice. In this study, we investigated the effect of SCP against the immunological liver injury induced by concanavalin A (Con A) in mice. The results showed that SCP could significantly reduce the level of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interferon-γ (IFN-γ), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the serum of mice with immunological liver injury. SCP could significantly decrease the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) and increase the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) in the liver tissue. SCP could significantly increase the number of CD4+ and decrease the number of CD8+ in the peripheral blood, and elevate the ratio of CD4+/CD8+. SCP could significantly downregulate the expression of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) and upregulate the expression of nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor2 (Nrf2) and downstream gene heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), and downregulate the expression of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), myeloid differentiation primary response gene 88 (MyD88), and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) proteins. This study indicates that SCP can reduce the release of a large number of inflammatory factors to inhibit the oxidative stress in mice with the immunological liver injury induced by Con A, and its mechanism is closely related to the regulation of Nrf2/antioxidant response element and TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathways.

        Horizontal Shear Behaviors of Normal Weight and Lightweight Concrete Composite T‑Beams

        This paper presents the results of recent research on the interface shear behavior of normal weight and lightweight concrete composite T-beams. In the experimental program 12 beams and necessary control cylinders were tested to provide experimental cases with the variables of interface preparation, clamping stress and lightweight slab concrete strength. Compared with 7 equations developed previously, it has been found that those formulas, especially the ones from current AASHTO and ACI design codes, give a conservative theoretical prediction of horizontal shear capacity of composite T-beams. Based on the experimental results, a more accurate equation was developed to predict the interface shear transfer strength of composite concrete T-beam. By comparing the experimental results of previous beam tests and shear-friction push-off tests for different types of concrete with both rough and smooth interface published in literature, it has been found that the proposed formula is reliable in predicting the horizontal shear strength of concrete composite T-beams.

        Microbial Community of Healthy Thai Vegetarians and Non-Vegetarians, Their Core Gut Microbiota, and Pathogen Risk

        Pyrosequencing analysis of intestinal microflora from healthy Thai vegetarians and nonvegetarians exhibited 893 OTUs covering 189 species. The strong species indicators of vegetarians and non-vegetarians were Prevotella copri and Bacteroides vulgatus as well as bacteria close to Escherichia hermanii with % relative abundance of 16.9 and 4.5-4.7, respectively. Core gut microbiota of the vegetarian and non-vegetarian groups consisted of 11 and 20 different bacterial species, respectively, belonging to Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, and Proteobacteria commonly found in both groups. Two species, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Gemmiger formicilis, had a prevalence of 100% in both groups. Three species, Clostridium nexile, Eubacterium eligens, and P. copri, showed up in most vegetarians, whereas more diversity of Collinsella aerofaciens, Ruminococcus torques, various species of Bacteroides, Parabacteroides, Escherichia, and different species of Clostridium and Eubacterium were found in most nonvegetarians. Considering the correlation of personal characters, consumption behavior, and microbial groups, the age of non-vegetarians showed a strong positive correlation coefficient of 0.54 (p = 0.001) to Bacteroides uniformis but exhibited a moderate one to Alistipes finegoldii and B. vulgatus. Only a positive moderate correlation of body mass index and Parabacteroides distasonis appeared. Based on the significant abundance of potential pathogens, the microbiota of the non-vegetarian group showed an abundance of potential pathogen varieties of Bilophila wadsworthia, Escherichia coli, and E. hermannii, whereas that of the vegetarian group served for only Klebsiella pneumoniae. These results implied that the microbiota of vegetarians with high abundance of P. copri and low potential pathogen variety would be a way to maintain good health in Thais.

        DFT study of the oxidation of Hg0 by O2 on an Mn-doped buckled g-C3N4 catalyst

        Due to the water-insoluble nature of Hg0, its oxidization to Hg2+, which is water-soluble, is a viable approach for its effective removal at coal-fired plants using existing flue gas desulfurization (FGD) unit. In this study, the adsorption and oxidation of elemental mercury on an Mn-doped g-C3N4 material were investigated. The spinpolarized density functional theory method was adapted to optimize the geometry structures and then to determine the corresponding electronic structures, while the CI-NEB method was adopted to search for the stable intermediates during the reaction(s). The analysis of energy and project density of states shows that the Mn-g- C3N4 exhibits an excellent affinity to Hg atoms. It is found that it is feasible for Hg atoms to oxidize on the Mn-g- C3N4 surface via two possible E-R paths, but with relatively high energy barriers. This research provides insights into a viable way for mercury removal using O2 as the oxidizing agent.

        Inhibition of BETs prevents heat shock-induced cell death via upregulating HSPs in SV40 large T antigen transfected cells

        Background: Heat shock response is a protected mechanism against environmental changes for the organism, which must be tightly regulated. Bromodomain and extra terminal-containing protein family (BETs) regulate numerous gene expression in many physiological and pathological conditions, including viral infection. SV40 is considered as a highly human disease-associated virus. Objective: We aimed to explore whether BETs play a role in heat shock in SV40 large T antigen transfected cells. Methods: SV40LTA was transfected in HeLa cells using the Lipofectamine 8000. BETs inhibitor JQ1 and I-BET-762 was employed to treat transfected cells and HEK-293 T cells. Heat shock treatment was performed to determine the effect of JQ1 and I-BET-762 on these cells. Western blot and quantitative RT-PCR were carried out to assess the expression of HSP70 and other HSPs. Results: We found that inhibition of BETs by JQ1 and I-BET-762 protects cells from heat shock-induced death in HEK293T cells. Both JQ1 and I-BET-762 induce the expression of HSPs and HSF1 in HEK-293 T cells. However, neither JQ1 nor I-BET-762 fail to induce the expression of HSPs in either HeLa or HBL-1 cells. When SV40 large T antigen was transfected into HeLa cells, the induction of HSP70 expressing and the protection of heat shock-induced cell death are reproduced by JQ1 and IBET treatment in these transfected cells. Conclusions: Inhibition of BETs by JQ1 and I-BET-762 prevents heat shock-induced cell death via upregulating HSPs in SV40 large T antigen transfected cells. Our data indicate a novel function of BETs in SV40 large T antigen transformed cells, affecting HSPs and HSF1 as well as its function on heat shock response.
