        Upregulation of FcγRIIB by resveratrol via NF-κB activation reduces B-cell numbers and ameliorates lupus

        Resveratrol, an anti-inflammatory agent, can inhibit pro-inflammatory mediators by activating Sirt1, which is a class III histone deacetylase. However, whether resveratrol can regulate inhibitory or anti-inflammatory molecules has been less studied. FcγRIIB, a receptor for IgG, is an essential inhibitory receptor of B cells for blocking B-cell receptor-mediated activation and for directly inducing apoptosis of B cells. Because mice deficient in either Sirt1 or FcγRIIB develop lupus-like diseases, we investigated whether resveratrol can alleviate lupus through FcγRIIB. We found that resveratrol enhanced the expression of FcγRIIB in B cells, resulting in a marked depletion of plasma cells in the spleen and notably in the bone marrow, thereby decreasing serum autoantibody titers in MRL/lpr mice. The upregulation of FcγRIIB by resveratrol involved an increase of Sirt1 protein and deacetylation of p65 NF-κB (K310). Moreover, increased binding of phosphor-p65 NF-κB (S536) but decreased association of acetylated p65 NF-κB (K310) and phosphor-p65 NF-κB (S468) to the − 480 promoter region of Fcgr2b gene was responsible for the resveratrol-mediated enhancement of FcγRIIB gene transcription. Consequently, B cells, especially plasma cells, were considerably reduced in MRL/lpr mice, leading to improvement of nephritis and prolonged survival. Taken together, we provide evidence that pharmacological upregulation of FcγRIIB expression in B cells via resveratrol can selectively reduce B cells, decrease serum autoantibodies and ameliorate lupus nephritis. Our findings lead us to propose FcγRIIB as a new target for therapeutic exploitation, particularly for lupus patients whose FcγRIIB expression levels in B cells are downregulated.

        Yin Di was a famous publisher in Taiwan. He wrote novels in the early years of his career, and then he published his own creations such as prose, essay, and poetry. The critics attached importance to Yin Di’s writing works, and some thesis on periodical even introduced or discussed Yin Di according to his career, novels, prose, or poems. Yin Di was a publisher and a poet. Because he needed to manage his social life, he not only concerned the development of his self-consciousness, but also concerned others’ consciousness more than the other poets did. Furthermore, he described the interactions between himself and others by poems. For example, Poem Shop showed the interactions between the protagonist and other characters through the names of shops, goods and conversations. Therefore, this study took Yin Di’s Poem Shop as the subject to discuss the way the author described the intersubjectivity of oneself and others by phenomenological methods, and thus to find how Yin Di value the interactions between oneself and others, and showed his world of consciousness by intersubjective words.

        Dual-Crankshaft Out-of-Phase Balanced Drive Mechanism Applied to High-Frequency Scraping of High-Density Microcavities Patterns

        This study examines the development of a “dual-crankshaft out-of-phase balanced drive mechanism” and its application in the realization of high-frequency scraping in the production of highly precise, extremely dense microconcavity patterns. The high-density microcavity mold can produce micro-lens arrays, which achieve energy saving through the light-gathering effect. A monocrystalline diamond tool driven by the designed positive drive mechanism facilitates scraping at a highfrequency using positively reciprocated motion. To inhibit system vibration caused by a single crankshaft, a dual-crankshaft out-of-phase balanced drive mechanism is developed, which allows both the primary drive shaft and balance shaft to possess identical eccentric distance with their eccentric forces going in opposite directions. The design off sets the eccentric force made by revolution of the primary drive shaft against the simultaneous force made by the revolving balance shaft. Experiments show that when system vibration error is restrained to 1-μm, the single crankshaft tool reaches a drive frequency of 15 Hz. While under the dual-crankshaft out-of-phase setup, drive frequency reached up to 50 Hz. Further experimental results demonstrated that the dual-crankshaft out-of-phase balanced drive mechanism has the capability of scraping a vast microconcavity pattern with high-precision, -integrity and -consistency. Characteristic surface roughness of microcavities was below Ra 0.024 μm and feature edges were burr-free. In addition, this paper discusses in detail: the material shear rate, scraping force prediction, influences of the workpiece forward feed-rate and tool actuation frequency as well as the relationship between major and minor axes in microconcavity formation.

        A novel recursive stochastic subspace identification algorithm with its application in long-term structural health monitoring of office buildings

        This study develops a novel recursive algorithm to significantly enhance the computation efficiency of a recently proposed stochastic subspace identification (SSI) methodology based on an alternative stabilization diagram. Exemplified by the measurements taken from the two investigated office buildings, it is first demonstrated that merely one sixth of computation time and one fifth of computer memory are required with the new recursive algorithm. Such a progress would enable the realization of on-line and almost real-time monitoring for these two steel framed structures. This recursive SSI algorithm is further applied to analyze 20 months of monitoring data and comprehensively assess the environmental effects. It is certified that the root-mean-square (RMS) response can be utilized as an excellent index to represent most of the environmental effects and its variation strongly correlates with that of the modal frequency. More detailed examination by comparing the monthly correlation coefficient discloses that larger variations in modal frequency induced by greater RMS responses would typically lead to a higher correlation.

        중국진출 외국계 프랜차이즈 커피전문점의 고객만족 및 브랜드충성도에 대한 영향요인분석

        The objective of this study is to examine the effects of the marketing 4Ps, store image and service quality towards customer satisfaction and brand loyalty. About 300 copies of questionnaires were distributed to three franchise coffee houses (Starbucks, Costa, UBC) in Beijing. For data analysis, various statistical techniques were used including frequency analysis, factor analysis (EFA, CFA), path analysis and ANOVA. Results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, there was no direct impact of product localization on customer satisfaction and brand loyalty. Second, price localization did not have impact on the customer satisfaction, but it has a direct impact on the brand loyalty. Third, promotion localization, distribution localization and shop impression have no direct impact on brand loyalty while the customer satisfaction has shown certain impact on the brand loyalty. Fourth, service quality has shown significant impact on customer satisfaction and brand loyalty. Fifth, at the marketing localization point of view, there were no obvious differences found with the three brands. However, differences exist in terms of store impression and service quality. Finally, this research gives us some meaningful implications and information on how foreign franchise coffee houses can enter the Chinese market, and how franchised coffee chains could improve customer satisfaction and brand loyalty.

      • The association of ambient air pollution with airway inflammation in schoolchildren.

        <P>The biologic mechanisms involved in airway inflammatory response to air pollution are not clearly understood. The authors conducted a longitudinal study to investigate whether exposure to ambient air pollutants affected inflammatory cells and mediators from nasal lavage in schoolchildren. Study participants were 100 elementary and middle-school students in New Taipei City, Taiwan. A structured respiratory health questionnaire was administered in September 2007, followed by monthly measurement of nasal inflammation from October 2007 to November 2009. During the study period, daily concentrations of air pollutants were obtained from the Environmental Protection Administration monitoring station and the Aerosol Supersite. Mixed-effects models were applied to examine the association between air pollution and nasal inflammatory cells and mediators, including percentages of neutrophils, eosinophils, and monocytes in lavaged cells and interleukin-8. A total of 824 measurements were obtained from 100 participants over a period of 10 months. The level of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 μm or less (PM(2.5)) was found to be associated with percentage of neutrophils (β = 3.45%, 95% confidence interval: 0.89, 6.01) and interleukin-8 level (β = 29.98 pg/mL, 95% confidence interval: 3.26, 56.69) in the nasal lavage on the day of exposure. In this longitudinal cohort study of schoolchildren, results indicated that exposure to PM(2.5) might induce nasal inflammation.</P>
