Previouslyl we reported on the isolation and structure elucidation of quercetin, avicularin, quercitrin and hyperin from the leaves of Rhododendron brachycarpum D. Don (Ericaceae). In this communication, the isolation of diterpenoid, grayanotoxin I, mp 247∼8˚ [α]_D=-5˚will be presented. 1) Choi, J.S., Choi, J.H., Young, H.S., Park, J.C. and Woo, W.S., Proceedings of 35th annual convention of the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea, 1986, p.108.
Further Study on the Constituents of Allium tuberosum leaves
Choi, Jae-Sue,Go, Chang-Hak The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1996 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.19 No.1
In the course of continuous work on the leaves of Allium tuberosum (Liliaceae), compounds 1 and 2 were isolated from the ethylacetate and butanol-soluble fraction, and identified as N-p-coumaroyl tyramine and bis(p-hydroxyphenyl) ether, respectively, on the basis of spectral data and physicochemical results.
Antimutagenic Effect of Plant Flavonoids in the Salmonella Assay System
Choi, Jae-Sue,Park, Kun-Young,Moon, Suk-Hee,Rhee, Sook-Hee,Young, Han-Suk The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1994 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.17 No.2
The antimutagenic effects of 27 kinds of plant flavonoids on the mutagenicity of aflatoxin $B_1(AFB_1)$ and N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine(MANG) in Salmonella typhimurium TA 100 were investigated. In the mixed applications of $AFB_1\;(1\;\mu{g/plate)}$ with the flavonoids $(300\;\mu{g/plate)}$ in the presence of a mammalian metabolic activation system (S9 mix), chrysin, apigenin, luteolin and its glucoside, kaempferol, fisetin, morin, naringenin, hesperetin, persicogenin, (+)-catechin and (-)epicatechin showed the antimutagenic effect against $AFB_1$ with more than 70% inhibition rate. A little or no antimutagenicities except flavone against MNNG $(0.5\;\mu{g/plate)}$ were observed. For the antimutagencity of the flavonoids on $AFB_1$, the flavonoid structure that contains the free 5, 7-hydroxyl gorup seemed to be essential. However, saturation of the 2, 3-double bond of elimination of the 4-keto group did not affect the activity.

Antioxidant activity of a methanol extract of Symphyocladia latiuscula was evaluated by the thiocyanate method in the linoleic acid system. The methanol extract inhibited the peroxidation of linoleic acid in a dose-dependent manner. The MeOH extract was then sequentially partitioned with n-hexane, CH₂Cl₂, EtOAc, n-BuOH and H₂O. The antioxidant activity of the fractions increased in order of CH₂Cl₂, n-hexane, EtOAc, and n-BuOH. There was no activity found in H₂O partitoned fraction by the thiocyanate method Especially, the activities of the fractions of n-hexane and CH₂Cl₂were comparable to that of 2,6-di-tert butylhydroxytoluene (BHT). Column chromatography of the CH₂Cl₂fraction over silica gel yielded cholesterol (1) and 2,3,6-tribromo 4,5-dihydroxybenzyl methyl ether (2) which were identified by instrumental analysis of MS and ¹H- and ^(13)C-NMR The latter (2) demonstrated significant antioxidant activity.
Hypolipemic and Hypoglycemic Activities of Prunus davidiana in High Fat-Fed Rats
Choi, Jae-Sue,Suh, Suk-Soo,Young, Han-Suk,Park, Hee-Juhn The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1991 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.14 No.1
Blood lipid levels in rats with high fat-fed hyperlipemia were determined after intraperitoneal administration of a methanolic extract of Prunus davidiana Fr. stems. Administration of the methanolic extract for 6 days produced a significant decrease of blood triglyceride and total cholesterol, and the atherogenic index was also improved. In addition to the hypolipemic effect, the methanolic extract was also shown to be effective in reducing an elevated level of glucose in rats with hyperlipemia resulting from high-fat feeding. On the other hand, blood triglyceride and total cholesterol in rats fed with stock diet were not affected by administration of the methanolic extract even if there was a tendency to decrease. No significant change was also found in the level of glucose. Thus, it is suggested that this methanolic extract probably may increase the metabolic utilization only when fed with excess fat.
