The main purpose of this study is to examine the impact of intellectual capital disclosure (ICD) on firm performance in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry of Bangladesh. In this study, 21 listed pharmaceutical and chemical companies have been selected as sample for 2016 and 2017. This study used the intellectual capital disclosure index developed by Rahman, Sobhan, and Islam. Return on assets and return on equity have been used as the proxy variable of firm performance. In this study, content analysis is performed to assess the level of disclosure regarding intellectual capital and pooled cross-sectional analysis is used to assess the relationship between ICD and firm performance. The study has found a positive and significant relationship between ICD and firm performance. Besides, an in-depth analysis of this study shows that all the components of ICD namely internal capital disclosure, external capital disclosure, and human capital disclosure are also positively and significantly associated with firm performance. The study suggests the development of an intellectual capital disclosure framework by the regulatory authority for mandatory compliance. This will improve the quality and quantity of ICD in the annual reports. Besides, firms should more emphasize on ICD which will help to improve their performance.

Bangladesh, as a newcomer country, is expecting to start her nuclear power journey by 2022. Due to evident reasons, newcomer nuclear countries face several key challenges concerning the development of national nuclear safety infrastructure. The paper investigates the status of the 7 key safety infrastructure issues out of the 19 and readiness of the supportive organizations, laboratories, and workforces following the International Atomic energy Agency's status evaluation guide at milestone 3 and foreign countries' practice. Much progress has been achieved at phase 3 regarding the establishments of a few Acts, a regulator, and an operator. However, comprehensive regulatory frameworks, skilled workforces, establishments of a few supportive organizations, and laboratories for managing environmental radioactivity, radiological accidents, and radioactive wastes are yet to ready. Several suggestions are made for establishing and expediting radiation monitoring laboratories, a radiological emergency management center, a radioactive waste management company, and technical support organizations for the safety infrastructure. To avoid perceived risks, policymakers and competent authorities need to emphasize creating an optimized safety infrastructure before commissioning and operating the 1<sup>st</sup> nuclear power plant safely, securely, and cost-sustainably.

Organic agriculture emphasized using of biologically originated herbicides and phytotoxic substances are being considered as a replacement to chemical herbicides. Marsilea crenata is an aquatic perennial fern distributed in the South-East Asian countries and is well known for various biological properties. However, to date, there has been no report that addresses the phytotoxicity of Marsilea crenata. Therefore, we explored phytotoxic properties and phytotoxic substances from Marsilea crenata. An aqueous methanol extracts of Marsilea crenata showed inhibition on the seedling growth of cress, lettuce, alfalfa, barnyard grass, Italian ryegrass, and foxtail fescue. Inhibition increased with increasing extract concentration. The extract was purified by several chromatographic steps and two phytotoxic substances were isolated and identified by spectroscopic analysis as loliolide and isololiolide. At the concentration of 30 μM, loliolide and isololiolide inhibited seedling growth of cress and barnyard grass by 41.3 to 51.1%, and 58.15 to 87.5% of control seedlings, respectively. The concentrations required for 50% inhibition of cress and barnyard grass seedlings ranged from 32.1 to 128.5 μM for loliolide, 37.0 to 176.2 μM for isololiolide. These results suggest these compounds may be responsible for phytotoxic effects of Marsilea crenata extract and could be an important part of organic agriculture.

Public perception of benefit over risk is the de facto factor in planning, construction, operation, halting, or phaseout of a nuclear power plant in any country. Even if there are multiple pathways of perceiving risk/benefit among different stakeholders, the perception of nuclear and non-nuclear groups needs to be individually tracked to help understand sectoral influence. Related studies were basically performed between the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and non-STEM groups. However, there are no such studies between the nuclear and non-nuclear groups. This study investigated the risk-benefit perceptions between the nuclear group (N = 102) and the non-nuclear group (N = 467) using survey data to measure their stake and identify the underlying factors by validating the hypotheses, through descriptive analysis, and structural equation modeling (SEM). Results showed that risk perception is significantly high in the non-nuclear group (as the P-value is > 0.001 to <0.01) while the benefit perception is slightly low in the nuclear group (as the P-value is > 0.01 to <0.05). The non-nuclear group was significantly influenced by risk perception due to a lack of involvement in nuclear activities. Notably, the nuclear group is less interactive in disseminating nuclear energy benefits to the non-nuclear group. Surprisingly, misperceptions and lack of confidence about the benefits of nuclear energy also exist in the nuclear group. The study emphasizes debunking nuclear myths in the nuclear and non-nuclear groups through meaningful interactions and demands effective public awareness-building programs by competent authorities for the growth of the nuclear industry.
Characterization of a gene encoding ornithine carbamoyltransferase from rice

Ornithinine carbamoyltransferase (OTC) is an enzyme that catalyzes the key step in arginine biosynthesis in bacteria and plants. OTC is also involved in the urea cycle and deficiency of the enzyme in human leads to disease. The argF gene encoding OTC has been reported in many bacteria and few plants. Here we report the characterization of a gene encoding OTC from rice (OsOTC). Analysis of a cDNA sequence from rice revealed that the full-length open reading frame of OsOTC consisted of 367 amino acids, corresponding to a protein of approximately 39.7 kDa. The predicted amino acid sequence of OsOTC harbor distinct five OTC signature sites and is highly homologous to that of enzymes of plants, animals and many bacterial OTCs. Expression of OsOTC in argF mutants of Escherichia coli showed that the gene was able to functionally complement to the mutant. These results suggest that the OsOTC encode a protein for ornithine carbamoyltransferase in rice.

Consequences of an anticipated Beyond Design Basis Accident (BDBA) Long-Term Station Blackout (LTSBO) event with complete loss of grid power in the VVER-1200 reactor of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) of Unit-1 are assessed using the RASCAL 4.3 code. This study estimated the released radionuclides, received public radiological dose, and ground surface concentration considering 3 accident scenarios of International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES) level 7 and two meteorological conditions. Atmospheric transport, dispersion, and deposition processes of released radionuclides are simulated using a straight-line trajectory Gaussian plume model for short distances and a Gaussian puff model for long distances. Total Effective Dose Equivalent (TEDE) to the public within 40 km and radionuclides contribution for three-dose pathways of inhalation, cloudshine, and groundshine owing to airborne releases are evaluated considering with and without passive safety Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) in dry (winter) and wet (monsoon) seasons. Source term and their release rates are varied with the functional duration of passive safety ECCS. In three accident scenarios, the TEDE of 10 mSv and above are confined to 8 km and 2 km for the wet and dry seasons, respectively in the downwind direction. The groundshine dose is the most dominating in the wet season while the inhalation dose is in the dry season. Total received doses and surface concentration in the wet season near the plant are higher than those in the dry season due to the deposition effect of rain on the radioactive substances.
