이정은,함효주,이관용,노지웅,유진석,정우백 이화여자대학교 의과학연구소 2014 EMJ (Ewha medical journal) Vol.37 No.2

Early repolarization is a common electrocardiographic (ECG) feature found in young adults, men and athletes, and has been considered to be a benign feature for the last several decades. But recent studies suggest that early repolarization may be related to idiopathic ventricular fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. We report a young man, 35 years old, who had life threatening ventricular fibrillation and sudden cardiac arrest. He was evaluated for cardiac causes of ventricular fibrillation. There was no explanation other than that his ECG showed an early repolarization pattern so we treated him with implantable cardioverter defibrillator. Thus, we suggest that early repolarization may be related with life threatening ventricular arrhythmia.

        백은호,이국엽,신효근,김정기 全北大學校 齒醫學硏究所 1992 전북치대논문집 Vol.10 No.1

The main purpose of the demanding surgical corrections aimed to improve esthetic appearance and masticatory function. But there are presumable etiologic factors in the development of T M symptoms after orthognathic surgery, that is, potential joint pathology due to different morphology of TMJ, hypombility after surgery, changes in condylar position, and changes in neuromuscular adaptation. These factors can influence on TMJ function. It is very important to find the etiological factors of TMD after surgery. Consequently, this survey was performed to evaluate TMJ function in 65 patients by questionaires, physical examination, radiogram after maxillofacial surgical corrections of the deformity patient. All patients were received pre- and post-operative orthodontic treatment. An acylic splint(wafer) was constructed prior to surgery with occlusal contacts in the anterior and posterior. The study group was consisted of 26 males and 39 females. The patients were evaluated at an average fellow-up period of 17.2 months with a range of 15 to 27 months. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The 65 patients were found to present preoperatively TMJ dysfunction symptom with an incidence of 18.5%(12 cases). 2. The patients with no TMJ dysfunction symptoms preoperatively, presented such symptom with an indicence of 26.4%(14 cases) postoperatively. 3. The main symptoms of TMJ dysfunction were 17 joints(15 clicking), TMJ pain(5 cases). 4. The mean preoperative MIO(maximal interincisal opening) of 49.7㎜ was reduced to 43.9㎜ postoperatively after sagittal split ramus osteotomy(n=38) with wire osteosynthesis(p<0.05).

In this study, sesame oil have been analyzed by near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). Sesame oil was mixed with the other edible oil. NIR transmittance spectra of sesame oil mixtures were acquired by using a dip probe. Partial least squares regression (PLSR) was applied to develop a calibration model over the spectral range 1100-1750nm. The calibration model predicted the content of sesame oil for validation set with a standard errors of prediction (SEP) of 0.3871%. Soft Independent Modeling of Class Analogy (SIMCA) was used to identify sesame oil and adulteration. This model identified the sesame oil and adulteration for validation set with 100% accuracy. This study showed that the rapid and non-destructive the determination of the quantitative analysis of sesame oil, the identification of sesame oil and adulteration was successfully performed by portable NIR system.

      • Protective effect of Panicum dichotomiflorum in a rat model of testosterone-induced benign prostatic hyperplasia

        Eun Bok Baek,Suyoung Park,Eun-Ju Hong,Warisraporn Tangchang,Hwa-Young Son,Hyo-Jung Kwon 한국실험동물학회 2021 한국실험동물학회 학술발표대회 논문집 Vol.2021 No.7

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a non-malignant enlargement of the prostate gland, resulted from hyperplastic changes of prostate epithelial and stromal cells and it can be lead to lower urinary tract symptoms. Panicum dichotomiflorum (PD) is an annual grass distributing throughout the world. This study was aimed to evaluate the protective effect of PD extract on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in a rat model of testosterone-induced BPH. BPH of rat was induced by daily subcutaneous (s.c) administration of testosterone propionate (TP) 3 mg/kg for four weeks. Simultaneously, rats were also administered daily oral gavage of PD (150 mg/kg), finasteride (10 mg/kg) as a positive control or vehicle. After final treatment, all animals were sacrificed humanely and prostates of each animal were isolated, weighed and collected for further analysis. Administration of PD to testosterone-induced BPH rats notably reduced relative prostate weight and concentrations of prostatic dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and serum testosterone. Epithelial thickness and expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and cyclin D1 were markedly suppressed by PD treatment. In addition, protein expressions of the B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) and cleaved caspase-3 were reduced PD-treated rats. PD decreased the levels of growth factors including transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-β1) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and protein expression of phospho-Akt. Further investigation showed that PD suppressed testosterone-induced prostatic inflammation and inflammatory cytokines including tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8. Taken together, PD protects from BPH progression by enhancing apoptosis and inhibiting growth factor signaling and inflammatory cytokines, suggesting that PD has potential to protect from BPH progression accompanied by inflammation.

        Hyo-Eun Baek,Eu-Gene Cho,Hyoun-Woo Kim,Chan-Jin Oh,Deuk-Sil Oh,Geon-Ung Jo 한국식품영양과학회 2021 한국식품영양과학회 학술대회발표집 Vol.2021 No.10

This study was conducted to contents of physiological active substances(total polyphenols, antioxidants, etc.) of leaves and pericarps were compared according to the fermentation conditions. The leaves and pericarps collected in September in Wando were powdered, sterilized at 121°C for 15 minutes, cooled to 30°C or lower, and then inoculated with Aspergillus oryzae and brewer"s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Fermentation was carried out for 72 hours, and physiological activity according to concentration and temperature was measured. As a result, the antioxidant activity was decreased at the brewer"s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) concentration of 5%, and total polyphenols also tended to decrease during fermentation. As a result of analyzing 16 kinds of phenolic compounds, galic acid increased about 3 times, tannic acid more than about 2 times during the fermentation A. oryzae of on the leaves and pericarps. In particular, protocatechuic acid increased about 10 times during fermentation of A. oryzae in leaves and about 21 times during fermentation of Brewer"s yeast (S. cerevisiae).

      • Protective effect of Gyeji-tang in a mouse model of cigarette smoke and lipopolysaccharide-induced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

        Eun Bok Baek,Jin-hyung Rho,Eun-Ju Hong,Hyo-Jung Kwon 한국실험동물학회 2021 한국실험동물학회 학술발표대회 논문집 Vol.2021 No.7

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an inflammatory lung disorder that is characterized by persistent airflow limitation and associated with symptoms of shortness of breath, cough, and sputum production. Gyeji-tang (GJT) is composed of five oriental herb and widely used as a traditional Asian medicine. In this study, we examined the protective effect of GJT in a mouse model of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) induced by cigarette smoke (CS) combined with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Mice received CS exposure daily for 8 weeks and intranasal instillation of LPS on weeks 1, 3, 5 and 7. GJT (100 and 200 mg/kg) was administrated daily 1 hour before CS treatment for the last 4 weeks. Roflumilast (10 mg/kg) as a positive control was used in this study. In histopathological evaluation, bronchoalveolar structural damage with inflammations were significantly suppressed in GJT treated animals. Administration of GJT significantly suppressed influx of total inflammatory cells, especially macrophages in BALF induced by CS with LPS exposure. Relative expression of TNF-α, IL-6, L-1β and IL-8 were significantly inhibited in lung tissues by treatment of GJT. GJT prevented activation of NF-κB and STAT3 induced by CS and LPS. Furthermore, GJT treatment decreased the expression of structural remodeling markers including transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), matrix metallopeptidase (MMP)-7 and MMP-9. Present study results demonstrates that GJT prevents lung inflammation and airway remodeling induced by CS with LPS exposure via NF-κB and STAT3 pathway. Therefore, GJT may be potential therapy for the treatment of COPD.

Antibody response to pneumococcal vaccination in children with chronic or recurrent rhinosinusitis

Baek, Ji Hyeon,Seo, Hyun Kyong,Jee, Hye Mi,Shin, Youn Ho,Han, Man Yong,Oh, Eun Sang,Lee, Hyun Ju,Kim, Kyung Hyo The Korean Pediatric Society 2013 Clinical and Experimental Pediatrics (CEP) Vol.56 No.7

Purpose: Although chronic and recurrent rhinosinusitis is prevalent in children, little is known about its causes. Here, we investigated the humoral immunity in children with chronic or recurrent rhinosinusitis. Methods: We examined 16 children attending the outpatient clinic at the CHA Bundang Medical Center including 11 boys and 5 girls, aged 3-11 years (mean age, 5.6 years), who had rhinosinusitis for >3 months or >3 times per year. The complete blood count with differential and total serum concentrations of Immunoglobulin (Ig) E, IgA, IgD, IgM, IgG, and IgG subclasses ($IgG_1$, $IgG_2$, $IgG_3$, and $IgG_4$) of all children were measured. All subjects received 23-polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccination (PPV), and the levels of antibodies to 5 serologic types (4, 6B, 14, 18C, and 23F) of pneumococcal capsular polysaccharide antigens were measured before and after vaccination. Post-PPV antibody titers ${\geq}0.35{\mu}g/mL$ or with a ${\geq}4$-fold increase were considered as positive responses. Results: The titers of IgG, IgA, IgD, and IgM were within normal range in all 16 children, whereas the total IgE concentration was higher than normal in 2 children. $IgG_1$ deficiency was observed in 1 patient and $IgG_3$ deficiency in 3. After PPV, 1 patient failed to respond to all 5 serologic types, 2 failed to respond to 4 serologic types, and 2 failed to respond to 3 serologic types. Conclusion: Clinicians should consider the evaluation of humoral immune functions in children with chronic or recurrent rhinosinusitis who do not respond to prolonged antibiotic treatment.
