The purpose of this study is to find out the trends of self-differentiation level and the perceived family strength and to analyze the effects of related variables influencing to them. The data are collected from 377 students in Daegu area. And the main results of this study are as fellows: 1.The degree of self-differentiation and the perception of family strength are significantly differed from gender, experience of the army service, religion experience, regional background, and mother's occupation experience. 2.The regression model explained 57% of family strength which are influenced by the classified subfactors of self-differentiation and by socio-demographic variables. 3.The effect of self-differentiation on the perception of family strength was higher that of socio- demographic variables.

제주도 남부 해역의 어류상

제주도 남제주군 서귀포시와 재정읍에서 1996년 6월부터 2000년 9월까지 어류를 채집하였다. 본 해역에서 채집 및 서식이 확인된 어류는 모두 14목 60과 100속 140종이었다. 채집된 어류 가운데 우세하게 출현한 분류군은 쏨뱅이목의 양볼락과 11종, 복어목의 참복과 10종, 농어목의 전갱이과 9종 순이었다. 채집된 어류 가운데 매퉁이과의 Synodus hoshinonis 1개체는 우리나라 연안에서 처음 채집된 표본으로 검색표와 함께 형태적 특징을 기재하고, 한국명은 "주홍?? 이라고 명명한다. The fish fauna of southern coastal waters of Jeju-do, Korea, was investigated from July 1996 to September 2000. Specimens collected from two localities were identified into 140 species belonging to 100 genera and 60 families. Among them, the largest group was order Perciformes, comprising 91 species and 34 families, and representing 64.6% of the total number of species. Synodus hoshinonis is redescribed and figured as the first record of the specie from Korea. A key to the species to the family Scynodontidae from Korea is proposed.

일부 고등학교 여학생의 여드름 유형 실태와 관련요인

Background and Objectives : This study was conducted to investigate the actual conditions and the relevant factors of acnes, the most common skin troubles of the adolescent period. Materials and Method : This study was carried out through a survey on 382 female students in a high school from October 24, 2002 to October 31. The survey was formed with questions on the general characteristics of the subject; questions relevant to the actual conditions of acnes; questions of the bio-rhythm; questions on washing and hair shape, the condition of the skin, eating habits; and questions on stress and sicknesses Chi-square test, t-test and multiple logistic regression were used as the method of statistical analysis, to investigate the associated factors with acnes that occur on the face. Results : 1. There were 65.4% of the female students who had acnes, and the most common site were on the forehead and nose, then the cheeks and the whole of the face respectively. On the type of the acnes, 39.1% non-inflammatory acnes, 29.7% were inflammatory and 12.3% were the combination of both 2 As a result of bivariate analysis, there was statistically significant relevance of sleeping time, number of time of washing face, type of cleansing product, type of skin, condition of skin, sensitiveness of skin, preference of meat, menstrual irregularity and stress with acnes 3 Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the odds ratio(OR) of acnes in case of use of soap instead of cleansing products was 3.00 (95% confidence interval(CI): 1.03 - 8.79), in case of the use of special pimple soap was 27.32 (95% CI 2.68 - 278.51), in case of oily face, 9.40 (95% CI 3.45 - 25.61); in case of combination face was 3.95 (95% CI. 1.64 - 9.50); in case of moist face without shine when compared to seriously lightened skin was 0.22 (95% CI. 0.07 - 0.72); in case of non-preference of meat when compared to preference of meat was 2.00 (95% CI : 1.11 - 3.61) Apart from this, there was no significant relevance with sleeping time, menstrual irregularity and stress Conclusion : It was concluded that there was relevance in the skin condition, skin type and face-wash with the acnes on the face of adolescent female students. There is a necessity of conducting studies about the occurrence of acnes and its relevant factors, in the future.

Cisplatin-Mediated Formation of Polyampholytic Chitosan Nanoparticles with Attenuated Viscosity and pH-Sensitive Drug Release

<P>Chitosan is a biocompatible natural polysaccharide, which has been employed as a polymeric scaffold for versatile, systemic delivery platforms and for locally injectable gels with temperature-sensitive viscosity modulation. Despite the extensive investigation on the chemical modification strategies, however, most of the chitosan-based delivery platforms have been focused on the encapsulation of hydrophobic drugs, which can be simply adsorbed on the chitosan scaffolds by hydrophobic interaction via the postparticle-formation drug-loading process. Herein, we present the facile formation of a cisplatin-coordinated chitosan nanoplatform by exploiting the divalent metal (Pt<SUP>II</SUP>)-mediated conformational changes of chitosan chains, which allows for the simultaneous drug-loading and nanoparticle formation. To this end, the native chitosan has been chemically modified with short polyethylene glycol and malonic acid as a colloidal stabilizer and a bidentate chelating ligand for Pt<SUP>II</SUP> coordination, respectively. The resulting Pt<SUP>II</SUP>-modified polyampholytic chitosan (Pt<SUP>II</SUP>-MPC) has been self-associated in aqueous media by hydrophobic segregation into a compact nanostructure, which exhibited an attenuated viscosity and pH-sensitive release of Pt<SUP>II</SUP> compounds. Once the cationic drug molecules have been released under mild acidic conditions, the neutralized Pt<SUP>II</SUP>-free MPC undergoes interchain flocculation near the isoelectric point because of the polyampholytic property, possibly allowing for the facilitated endosomal escape during the cellular endocytosis by the known membrane perturbation property of chitosan.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

A SPORTS Nutrition Supplement, Albizia Julibrissin Extract Fermented with Kefir Yogut Regulates Lipopolysaccharideinduced Inflammatory Signal

Although the inflammatory response is vital for biological regulation, chronic inflammation damages the hu-man body. Presently available anti-inflammatory drugs, including steroids, have side effects that prevent their administration to athletes. This study aimed at elucidating a method to control exercise-induced inflammation and oxidative stress, by investigating the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant efficacy of extracts of Albizia juli-brissin fermented with kefir yogurt(FKA) in vitro. We investigated the effect of FKA on RAW 264.7 cells using cell viability assays. The regulatory effect of FKA in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced nitric oxide(NO) production was determined using Griess reagent and the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) assays, with specific primers such as interleukin(IL)-1β, IL-6, and IL-10, inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS), and cyclooxygen-ase- 2(COX-2) in vivo. Furthermore, the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) radical scavenging assay was per-formed and the cellular morphology changes were observed using florescence microscopy. The results showed that FKA significantly reduced LPS–induced NO production by regulating the expression of IL-1β, iNOS, and COX-2; thus, FKA exerts cytoprotective effects against ROS-induced cell death. These data suggest the anti-inflamma-tory therapeutic potential of FKA.

Adrenal ganglioneuroma with hepatic metastasis

Ganglioneuroma is the most differentiated tumor of neural crest origin and rarely arises in the adrenal gland. Ganglioneuroma is typically known to be benign, but very rarely can metastasize to distant sites. We report a case of a 31-year-old man with a huge adrenal mass with hepatic metastases.

Comparison of venous filling times and SLO findings at each quadrant region in diabetic retinopathy

Our purpose is to evaluate the correlation of retinal venous filling time (VFT), which reflects the peripheral retinal microcirculation in diabetic retinopathy, with fluorescein angiography (FAG) findings such as microaneurysm (MA), non-perfusion area (NP), neovascularization (NV) and relative retinal venous diameter (RRVD), and further, to evaluate the correlation between arteriovenous passage time (AVPT) and these factors. Partial F-test (multiple regression analysis) was performed on patients (32 eyes of diabetic retinopathy) who underwent video FAG, using scanning laser ophthalmoscope. In the four quadrants, VFT was compared with each MA, NP, and NV at each vascular arch at a distance of one disc diameter distant from the optic disc. VFT was significantly correlated to RRVD, NP, and NV at each quadrant (r > 0.7). However, AVPT was not significantly correlated to any of the factors studied. Delayed VFT was associated with the hemodynamic change of the peripheral retinal microcirculation at each quadrant in diabetic retinopathy. VFT can be used as an index to indicate the peripheral microcirculation of the retina.
