        Ultrahigh Energy Storage Capacitance and High Breakdown Strength in Biaxially Oriented Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Using a High-Electric-Induced Technique

        The development of high dielectric materials with high energy densities is a crucial research domain in the modern microelectronics and power systems. The objective of this work was to develop the highly ordered crystal orientations and large ferroelectric crystalline β/γ-phases in the biaxially oriented poly(vinylidene fluoride) (BOPVDF). Importantly, a high discharged energy density and high dielectric constant was achieved by using a high-electric-induced technique. A suitable poling electric field was applied to the BOPVDF films in order to enhance the breakdown strength. Remarkably, the BOPVDF film poled at the electric field of 113 MV m-1 achieved an unprecedented discharged energy density of 25.4 J cm-3 at an ultra-high electric field of 550 MV m-1, which is by far the highest value ever achieved in flexible polymer-based capacitor films. Comparatively, the unpoled BOPVDF and commercial biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) exhibited only a discharged energy density of 7.9 J cm-3 and 1.2 J cm-3, respectively. This systematic study provides a new design paradigm to exploit PVDF-based dielectric polymers for capacitor applications.

        EMRQ: An Efficient Multi-keyword Range Query Scheme in Smart Grid Auction Market

        With the increasing electricity consumption and the wide application of renewable energy sources, energy auction attracts a lot of attention due to its economic benefits. Many schemes have been proposed to support energy auction in smart grid. However, few of them can achieve range query, ranked search and personalized search. In this paper, we propose an efficient multi-keyword range query (EMRQ) scheme, which can support range query, ranked search and personalized search simultaneously. Based on the homomorphic Paillier cryptosystem, we use two super-increasing sequences to aggregate multidimensional keywords. The first one is used to aggregate one buyer`s or seller`s multidimensional keywords to an aggregated number. The second one is used to create a summary number by aggregating the aggregated numbers of all sellers. As a result, the comparison between the keywords of all sellers and those of one buyer can be achieved with only one calculation. Security analysis demonstrates that EMRQ can achieve confidentiality of keywords, authentication, data integrity and query privacy. Extensive experiments show that EMRQ is more efficient compared with the scheme in [3] in terms of computation and communication overhead.

        Study on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of CrCuFeNiV Multi Principal Element Alloy

        Phase constitution, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the as-cast and homogenized CrCuFeNiV multi principalelement alloys were investigated. Results show that the microstructures of CrCuFeNiV alloys either in the as-cast orhomogenized state were constituted by the dispersed Cu-rich fcc regions and the matrix regions (intertwined bcc + σ phases). Thereinto, the σ phase, ranged from nanometers to microns, was a complex multicomponent intermediate phase with a highsolubility for Fe, Cr, Ni, and V. This phase structure and hardness had an impressive thermal stability, which was evidencedby the current annealing treatment. High hardness (822 HV and 793 HV) was simultaneously achieved under an appliedload of 200 g in the as-cast and homogenized CrCuFeNiV alloys, on account of the incorporation of the high-stiffness σphase against the fcc and bcc phases. The ultimate compressive strength of ~ 1490 MPa was obtained in the as-cast alloydue to the high deformation resistance to the dislocation movement of bcc phase and precipitation strengthening of σ phaseat the expense of plasticity. The deterioration in plasticity was attributed to the stress concentration easily triggered by thehard and brittle σ phase.

        Association of High Expression of Mitochondrial Fission Regulator 2 with Poor Survival of Patients with Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Mitochondrial fission regulator 2 (MTFR2) is associated with mitochondrial fission, while few studies have assessed the associations between MTFR2 expression and clinical characteristics or prognosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). In this study, we compared the expression of MTFR2 in 6 ESCC tumors and relative normal tissues by immunohistochemistry (IHC). To assess the effect of MTFR2 expression on clinicopathologic characteristics and survival, 115 paraffin embedded ESCC tissue samples were assessed by IHC staining. Furthermore, the association between clinicopathological properties and MTFR2 expression in patients with ESCC was examined. The survival analysis was performed using the Cox regression models. We found that MTFR2 expression was significantly increased in ESCC tumors compared with normal esophageal epithelial cells. IHC analysis of 115 paraffin embedded ESCC tumor specimens of the patients showed that the expression of MTFR2 was significantly associated with clinical stage (P < 0.001), tumor classification (P < 0.001), histological grade (P < 0.001), and other clinicopathological characteristics. Both univariate and multivariate analyses showed that MTFR2 expression was inversely correlated with the survival of ESCC patients. In conclusion, the expression of MTFR2 is significantly associated with clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis of ESCC. Thus, MTFR2 expression could serve as a potentially important prognostic biomarker and clinical target for patients with ESCC.         Effect of Cr Incorporation on the Mechanical Properties of HfMoTiZrCr, HfMoNbZrCr, and HfMoNbTiCr Refractory High-Entropy Alloys

        Cr was used to replace Nb, Ti, and Zr in a precursor alloy HfMoNbTiZr, and its effect on the microstructure, phase constitution,and mechanical properties of the newly formed alloys were investigated. Microstructural evolutions revealed thata cubic Laves phase emerged regardless of which element was substituted by Cr. The original single-phase BCC structureof the precursor alloy was thus deteriorated and replaced by two BCC and one cubic Laves phases. The formation of theLaves phase and BCC phases increased the strength to 2480 ± 40 MPa in the HfMoNbTiCr alloy, while the net-like structure(Laves phase) impeded the crack extension and compensated for the decreased plasticity due to the introduction of thebrittle-stiff Laves phase. The other two alloys, HfMoTiZrCr and HfMoNbZrCr, possessed lower strengths of 1400 ± 20 and1642 ± 23 MPa and exhibited a completely brittle fracture character, which was attributed to the high volume fraction andthe morphologies of the Laves phase.

        Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase-1 Pro-motes NIH3T3 Fibroblast Proliferation by Activating p-Akt and Cell Cycle Progression

        Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) plays various roles in cell growth in different cell types. However, few studies have focused on TIMP-1’s effect on fibroblast cells. In this study, we investigated the effects of TIMP-1 overexpression on NIH3T3 fibroblast proliferation and potential transduction signaling pathways involved. Overexpression of TIMP-1, by transfection of the pLenti6/ V5-DESTTIMP-1 plasmid, significantly promoted NIH3T3 proliferation as determined by the BrdU array. Neither 5 nor 15 nM GM6001 (matrix metalloproteinase system inhibitor) affected NIH3T3 proliferation, but 45 nM GM6001 inhibited proliferation. TIMP-1 overexpression activated the p-Akt pathway, but not the p-ERK or p-p38 pathway. In TIMP-1-transfected cells, cyclinD1 was upregulated and p21CIP1 and p27^(KIP1) were downregulated, which promoted cell entry into the S and G2/M phases. The PI3-K inhibitor LY294002 abolished the TIMP-1-induced effects. Overexpression of intracellular TIMP-1 stimulated NIH3T3 fibroblast proliferation in a matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-independent manner by activating the p-Akt pathway and related cell cycle progression.

        Robust Conditional Privacy-Preserving Authentication based on Pseudonym Root with Cuckoo Filter in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

        Numerous privacy-preserving authentication schemes have been proposed but vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) still suffer from security and privacy issues as well as computation and communication overheads. In this paper, we proposed a robust conditional privacy-preserving authentication scheme based on pseudonym root with cuckoo filter to meet security and privacy requirements and reduce computation and communication overheads. In our proposed scheme, we used a new idea to generate pseudonyms for vehicles where each on-board unit (OBU) saves one pseudonym, named as “pseudonym root,” and generates all pseudonyms from the same pseudonym. Therefore, OBU does not need to enlarge its storage. In addition, the scheme does not use bilinear pairing operation that causes computation overhead and has no certification revocation list that leads to computation and communication overheads. The proposed scheme has lightweight mutual authentication among all parties and just for once. Moreover, it provides strong anonymity to preserve privacy and resists ordinary attacks. We analyzed our proposed scheme and showed that it meets security and privacy requirements of VANETs and is more efficient than traditional schemes. The communication and computation overheads were also discussed to show the cost-effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

        Enteric dysbiosis-linked gut barrier disruption triggers early renal injury induced by chronic high salt feeding in mice

        Chronic high-salt diet-associated renal injury is a key risk factor for the development of hypertension. However, the mechanism by which salt triggers kidney damage is poorly understood. Our study investigated how high salt (HS) intake triggers early renal injury by considering the ‘gut-kidney axis’. We fed mice 2% NaCl in drinking water continuously for 8 weeks to induce early renal injury. We found that the ‘quantitative’ and ‘qualitative’ levels of the intestinal microflora were significantly altered after chronic HS feeding, which indicated the occurrence of enteric dysbiosis. In addition, intestinal immunological gene expression was impaired in mice with HS intake. Gut permeability elevation and enteric bacterial translocation into the kidney were detected after chronic HS feeding. Gut bacteria depletion by non-absorbable antibiotic administration restored HS loadinginduced gut leakiness, renal injury and systolic blood pressure elevation. The fecal microbiota from mice fed chronic HS could independently cause gut leakiness and renal injury. Our current work provides a novel insight into the mechanism of HS-induced renal injury by investigating the role of the intestine with enteric bacteria and gut permeability and clearly illustrates that chronic HS loading elicited renal injury and dysfunction that was dependent on the intestine.
