AR based ornament design system for 3D printing

Aoki, Hiroshi,Mitanin, Jun,Kanamori, Yoshihiro,Fukui, Yukio Society for Computational Design and Engineering 2015 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.2 No.1

In recent years, 3D printers have become popular as a means of outputting geometries designed on CAD or 3D graphics systems. However, the complex user interfaces of standard 3D software can make it difficult for ordinary consumers to design their own objects. Furthermore, models designed on 3D graphics software often have geometrical problems that make them impossible to output on a 3D printer. We propose a novel AR (augmented reality) 3D modeling system with an air-spray like interface. We also propose a new data structure (octet voxel) for representing designed models in such a way that the model is guaranteed to be a complete solid. The target shape is based on a regular polyhedron, and the octet voxel representation is suitable for designing geometrical objects having the same symmetries as the base regular polyhedron. Finally, we conducted a user test and confirmed that users can intuitively design their own ornaments in a short time with a simple user interface.

      • Damage propagation in CFRP laminates subjected to low velocity impact and static indentation

Aoki, Yuichiro,Suemasu, Hiroshi,Ishikawa, Takashi The Korean Society for Composite Materials 2007 Advanced composite materials Vol.16 No.1

This paper describes a damage accumulation mechanism in cross-ply CFRP laminates $[0_2/90_2]_{2S}$ subjected to out-of-plane loading. Drop-weight impact and static indentation tests were carried out, and induced damage was observed by ultrasonic C-scan and an optical microscope. Both tests gave essentially the same results for damage modes, sizes, and load-deformation history. First, a crack occurred in the bottom $0^{\circ}$ layer accompanying some delamination along the crack caused by bending stress. Then, transverse cracks occurred in the middle $90^{\circ}$ layer with decreasing contact force between the specimen and the indenter. Measured local strains near the impact point showed that the stress state changed from a bending dominant state to an in-plane tensile dominant state. A cohesive interface element was used to simulate the propagation of multiple delaminations and transverse cracks under static indentation. Two types of analytical models are considered, one with multiple delaminations and the other with both multiple delaminations and transverse cracks. The damage obtained for the model with only multiple delaminations was quite different from that obtained from the experiment. However, the results obtained from the model with both delaminations and transverse cracks well explain the characteristics of the damage obtained in the experiment. The existence of the transverse cracks is essential to form the characteristic impact damage.

Postoperative norepinephrine versus dopamine in patients undergoing noncardiac surgery: a propensity-matched analysis using a nationwide intensive care database

        Aoki Yoshitaka,Nakajima Mikio,Sugimura Sho,Suzuki Yasuhito,Makino Hiroshi,Obata Yukako,Doi Matsuyuki,Nakajima Yoshiki 대한마취통증의학회 2023 Korean Journal of Anesthesiology Vol.76 No.5

Background: Choosing catecholamines, such as norepinephrine and dopamine, for perioperative blood pressure control is essential for anesthesiologists and intensivists. However, studies specific to noncardiac surgery are limited. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the effects of postoperative norepinephrine and dopamine on clinical outcomes in adult noncardiac surgery patients by analyzing a nationwide intensive care patient database. Methods: The Japanese Intensive care PAtient Database (JIPAD) was used for this multicenter retrospective study. Adult patients in the JIPAD who received norepinephrine or dopamine within 24 h after noncardiac surgery in 2018–2020 were included. We compared the norepinephrine and dopamine groups using a one-to-one propensity score matching analysis. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality. Secondary outcomes were intensive care unit (ICU) mortality, hospital length of stay, and ICU length of stay. Results: A total of 6,236 eligible patients from 69 ICUs were allocated to the norepinephrine (n = 4,652) or dopamine (n = 1,584) group. Propensity score matching was used to create a matched cohort of 1,230 pairs. No differences in the in-hospital mortality was found between the two propensity score matched groups (risk difference: 0.41%, 95% CI [−1.15, 1.96], P = 0.608). Among the secondary outcomes, only the ICU length of stay was significantly shorter in the norepinephrine group than in the dopamine group (median length: 3 vs. 4 days, respectively; P < 0.001).Conclusions: In adult patients after noncardiac surgery, norepinephrine was not associated with decreased mortality but was associated with a shorter ICU length of stay than dopamine.

PainVision Apparatus Is Effective for Assessing Low Back Pain

        Seiji Ohtori,Hiroshi Kawaguchi,Tsuneo Takebayashi,Sumihisa Orita,Gen Inoue,Kazuyo Yamauchi,Yasuchika Aoki,Junichi Nakamura,Tetsuhiro Ishikawa,Masayuki Miyagi,Hiroto Kamoda,Miyako Suzuki,Gou Kubota,Yos 대한척추외과학회 2014 Asian Spine Journal Vol.8 No.6

Study Design: Case series. Purpose: To determine the utility of “PainVision” apparatus for the assessment of low back pain. Overview of Literature: A newly developed device, the PainVision PS-2100 (Nipro, Osaka, Japan), has been used to assess the perception of pain in a quantitative manner. In the current study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of PainVision for the assessment of low back pain. Methods: We assessed 89 patients with low back pain. The numeric rating scale (NRS) score, McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ) score and the degree of pain calculated by PainVision were measured twice at 4-week intervals in each patient. An electrode was patched on the forearm surface of the patients and the degree of pain was automatically calculated (degree of pain=100×[current producing pain comparable with low back pain–current at perception threshold/current at perception threshold]). Correlations between NRS and MPQ scores and the degree of pain were determined using Spearman’s rank correlation test. Results: There was a strong correlation between the NRS and MPQ scores at each time point (rs =0.60, p <0.0001). The degree of pain also showed a moderate correlation with NRS and MPQ scores at each time point (rs =0.40, p <0.03). The change in the degree of pain over 4 weeks showed a moderate correlation with changes in the NRS and MPQ scores (rs =0.40, p <0.01). Conclusions: PainVision as self-reported questionnaires is a useful tool to assess low back pain.

Parent Artery Complex Coil Protection for Side-Branched Wide-Neck Aneurysms

        Sato Keisuke,Aoki Hiroshi,Jinguji Shinya,Seto Hiroki,Kobayashi Tsutomu 대한신경중재치료의학회 2022 Neurointervention Vol.17 No.2

This study aimed to validate the usefulness of parent artery complex coil protection for the treatment of wide-neck, side-branched, and ruptured aneurysms. A microcatheter was first introduced into the aneurysmal sac, and another microcatheter was introduced into the parent artery or near the orifice of the branch artery. A framing coil was deployed partially from the first microcatheter, and a protection coil was deployed from the second microcatheter to prevent protrusion of the first framing coil to the parent artery and side branches. After the first framing coil insertion, the protection coil was withdrawn to confirm the stability of the framing coil and blood flow. The procedures with this technique were successful for 3 patients. Parent artery complex coil protection can be an effective and safe coil embolization technique for the preservation of parent and side branch arteries and an alternative method for emergent ruptured cases.

      • Systematic Development of Tomato BioResources in Japan

Ariizumi, Tohru,Aoki, Koh,Ezura, Hiroshi Korean Society for Bioinformatics 2011 Interdisciplinary Bio Central (IBC) Vol.3 No.1

Recently, with the progress of genome sequencing, materials and information for research on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) have been systematically organized. Tomato genomics tools including mutant collections, genome sequence information, full-length cDNA and metabolomic datasets have become available to the research community. In Japan, the National BioResource Project Tomato (NBRP Tomato) was launched in 2007, with aims to collect, propagate, maintain and distribute tomato bioresources to promote functional genomics studies in tomato. To this end, the dwarf variety Micro-Tom was chosen as a core genetic background, due to its many advantages as a model organism. In this project, a total of 12,000 mutagenized lines, consisting of 6000 EMS-mutagenized and 6000 gamma-ray irradiated M2 seeds, were produced, and the M3 offspring seeds derived from 2236 EMS-mutagenized M2 lines and 2700 gamma-ray irradiated M2 lines have been produced. Micro-Tom mutagenized lines in the M3 generation and monogenic Micro-Tom mutants are provided from NBRP tomato. Moreover, tomato cultivated varieties and its wild relatives, both of these are widely used for experimental study, are available. In addition to these bioresources, NBRP Tomato also provides 13,227 clones of full-length cDNA which represent individual transcripts non-redundantly. In this paper, we report the current status of NBRP Tomato and its future prospects.

        Lymphadenectomy issues in endometrial cancer

        Yosuke Konno,Hiroshi Asano,Ayumi Shikama,Daisuke Aoki,Michihiro Tanikawa,Akinori Oki,Koji Horie,Akira Mitsuhashi,Akira Kikuchi,Hideki Tokunaga,Yasuhisa Terao,Toyomi Satoh,Kimio Ushijima,Mitsuya Ishika 대한부인종양학회 2021 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.32 No.2

Objectives: This review aims to introduce preoperative scoring systems to predict lymphnode metastasis (LNM) and ongoing clinical trials to investigate the therapeutic role oflymphadenectomy for endometrial cancer. Methods: We summarized previous reports on the preoperative prediction models forLNM and evaluated their validity to omit lymphadenectomy in our recent cohorts. Next, wecompared characteristics of two ongoing lymphadenectomy trials (JCOG1412, ECLAT) toexamine the survival benefit of lymphadenectomy in endometrial cancer, and described thedetails of JCOG1412. Results: Lymphadenectomy has been omitted for 64 endometrial cancer patients who met low risk criteria to omit lymphadenectomy using our scoring system (LNM score) and no lymphaticfailure has been observed. Other two models also produced comparable results. Two randomizedphase III trials to evaluate survival benefit of lymphadenectomy are ongoing for endometrialcancer. JCOG1412 compares pelvic lymphadenectomy alone with pelvic and para-aorticlymphadenectomy to evaluate the therapeutic role of para-aortic lymphadenectomy for patients atrisk of LNM. For quality assurance of lymphadenectomy, we defined several regulations, includinglower limit of the number of resected nodes, and submission of photos of dissected area toevaluate thoroughness of lymphadenectomy in the protocol. The latest monitoring report showedthat the quality of lymphadenectomy has been well-controlled in JCOG1412. Conclusion: Our strategy seems reasonable to omit lymphadenectomy and could begeneralized in clinical practice. JCOG1412 is a high-quality lymphadenectomy trial in terms ofthe quality of surgical procedures, which would draw the bona-fide conclusions regarding thetherapeutic role of lymphadenectomy for endometrial cancer.

Thermal, Dielectric, and Magnetic Properties in Multiferroic Cu2.85Zn0.15Mo2O9

        Haruhiko Kuroe,Kento Aoki,Ryusuke Itoh,Tomohiro Hosaka,Takuya Hasegawa,Suguru Hachiuma,Mitsuru Akaki,Hideki Kuwahara,Tomoyuki Sekine,Masashi Hase,Kunihiko Oka,Toshimitsu Ito,Hiroshi Eisaki 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.63 No.3

We study the effects of Zn substitution on single crystals of the low-dimensional multiferroicmaterial Cu3Mo2O9. We report the magnetic field-temperature phase diagram obtained from thetemperature and the magnetic field dependences of the specific heat, the dielectric constant, thedifferential magnetization, and the electric polarization-electric field curve in Cu2.85Zn0.15Mo2O9. We obtain three phases: a paraelectric and a ferroelectric phase, and a ferroelectric phase with alarge coercive electric field. The origin of the last one is discussed based on the charge redistributioneffect on a half-filled Mott insulator. In this phase, the Zn substitution induces a robust localizedferroelectric polarization that increases the coercive electric field.
