        대학도서관의 독서교육 사례 연구 : 연세대학교 원주학술정보원 비교과 프로그램 BOOKCLUB:Y를 중심으로

        대학도서관은 교육과 연구라는 2대 기능을 지닌 곳이자, 책과 사람이 만나는 공간이다. 독서, 글쓰기, 토론 등의 개별 교과 과목과 달리 대학도서관에서는 통합적인 비교과 독서교육 프로그램을 자율적으로 실행함으로써 개별 경쟁력을 갖출 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 대학도서관이 실현할 수 있는 독서교육 방안을 실제 사례를 통해 살펴보고자 한다. 우선 독자, 텍스트, 상황 요인을 검토한다. ‘읽기’보다 ‘보기’의 방식을 취하고 기능적 독서에 매몰된 오늘날의 대학생 독자 특성을 살펴보고, 이에 적합한 텍스트를 검토한다. 단편 소설을 비롯하여 그림책, 사람 책, 수필, 시 등을 다루고자 하였다. 또한 해당 프로그램을 진행하는 시기와 맞물린 감염병 확산에 따른 온라인 비대면 상황 요인을 살펴보고, 교수자와 학습자의 구체적 상호작용이 가능한 방안을 살펴보았다. 이후 연세대학교 원주학술정보원의 비교과 프로그램 BOOKCLUB:Y를 계획하고 실행함으로써 대학도서관의 독서교육 실현 가능성을 살펴보았다. 개별 독자가 혼자 텍스트를 읽고 이해하는 데 그치지 않고, 토론과 글쓰기로 나아가며 대화주의에 기반한 응답적 이해로 나아가는 과정을 제시한다. 읽기와 쓰기가 통합된 프로그램을 통해 대학생 독자들에게 의미 있는 독서경험을 제공하고 전 생애에 걸친 평생 독자로 이끌 수 있을 것이다. The university library has two major functions of education and research. It is a space in which books and readers meet. Unlike regular courses that focus on individual subjects such as reading, writing, and discussion, university libraries can autonomously implement integrated reading education programs. Therefore, this study attempts to examine the reading education plan that can be achieved by university libraries through actual cases. First, I examine the three factors that influence reading: reader, text, and situation. This study investigates the characteristics of today’s university students who adopt “screening” rather than “reading” methods, and are immersed in functional reading. To this end, it examines suitable texts. I suggest various texts: short novels, picture books, living library, essays, and poetry. Additionally, the factors of online non-face-to-face situations caused by the spread of infectious diseases interlocked with the timing of the program were examined, as well as methods for enabling specific interactions between instructors and learners. Then, the possibility of achieving reading education in university libraries was examined by planning and executing the extracurricular program BOOKCLUB:Y of Yonsei University Wonju Library. It presents a process not only to enable individual readers to read and understand the text alone, but to proceed to discussion and writing, and to a responsive understanding based on dialogueism. Through an integrated program of reading and writing, it will be possible to provide meaningful reading experiences to university students and lead them toward becoming lifelong readers

        Disease Progression-Associated Diagnostic and Treatment Procedure for a Dog with Hepatic Abscesses: A Case Report

        A 15-year-old spayed female Yorkshire Terrier was presented to our hospital with a history of anorexia, depression and abdominal pain. Diagnostic procedures including blood test, radiography and ultrasonography were per- formed. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed multiple hypoechoic cysts in the left lobe of the liver. Over time, the cysts increased in size and became more echogenic. Four days later, the rupture of the largest cyst was suspected, and hepatic abscesses with bacteria were confirmed by aspiration of the cyst. De- spite surgical resection of the abscessed liver lobe, antibiotic administration, and supportive therapy, the dog died 9 days after presentation to the hospital and 4 days after the surgical procedure. The present case report described the overall diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for liver abscesses in a dog.

        Toward a Bipolar Apparel GVC? From the Perspective of First-Tier Suppliers

        This case study of a Korea-based apparel first-tier supplier examined the evolution of Global Value Chains (GVCs) toward a bi-polar governance structure in the apparel industry, a stronghold of lead-firm dominant and uni-polar chain. It also hypothesized that strategic suppliers" emergence is a necessary condition for the governance transformation towards bipolarity. Company K provides a compelling case to corroborate this hypothesis as it fulfilled a wide array of value chain functions that encourage buyers to form collaborative relationships with them. Our single case study provides a multi-level analysis of how the bi-polarity has emerged (global, industry-level and organizational-level). Its unique contribution to the germane literature is the articulation of organizational strategies that these suppliers undertook to stay cost-competitive while building capability. Supplier upgrading tends to focus on capability building with less regard to how they manage their human resources and ways of working. In this study, we give due attention to organizational changes these first-tier suppliers undertake to secure and improve their positions within GVCs, which holds useful managerial insight for emerging MNEs hoping to do the same.

        What Makes Them Dream on?

        One of the eye-catching changes in the Korean labor market over the last decade is the rapid increase in the proportion of young creative workers. It is also widely known that the majority of these workers experience contingent work alongside meagre and sporadic income. However, despite the constant obstacles to continuation of their career, and despite the fact that many do discontinue, the labor market in this sector still grows. This contradictory situation can also be encountered in the music industry, which is the focus of this study. The conventional wisdom attributes the expansion of the labor market to the pervasion of ‘hope labor,’ and its high churn rates to musicians’ immediate financial insecurity. This study challenges these naïve explanations by asking why some people leave their occupation while a significant number of others who make similar earnings stay. We examined different sets of resources which musicians can mobilize to explain the varieties of choices that they make regarding their career. The results suggest that economic factors including immediate earnings do not determine musicians’ desire to continue their professional career in music. Rather, they evidence that social networks of musicians and their ability to construct the future affect musicians’ career prospect.

        Changing Industrial Relations and Labor Market Inequality in Post-Crisis Korea

        Since the Asian economic crisis in the late 1990s, Korea has developing one of the most unequal labor markets among OECD countries. The proliferation of nonstandard employment and the precarious working conditions of nonstandard workers have contributed to the polarizing labor market. Some of the main reasons to explain this change are the declining labor unions and the extremely fragmented bargaining structure with which the results of collective agreements have affected unionized workers only. Labor unions, once powerful, have been declining constantly and significantly since the early 1990s and their presence has increasingly been skewed toward the large-firm sector. Accordingly, Korean society has formed a strong public perception that unions, staying comfortably in a wealthy firm boundary, have protected exclusively their own members who are in a better position in the labor market and ignored others who are the vast majority of wage earners. This paper examines this view, the so-called the insider-outsider divide, of labor unions. It pays attention to the roles that labor unions have played in the processes of restructuring the country’s post-crisis labor market. Using a brief description of the overall characteristics of post-crisis employment systems and a small set of case studies on the role of the unions in the period of major restructuring, I attempt to examine if (and to what extent) unions exclude periphery workers and thus take part in creating labor market segmentation.

        연공성임금을 매개로 한 조직내 관계적 불평등: 내부자-외부자 격차에 대한 분석

        이 연구의 목표는 1990년대말 이래 비정규직 확대와 함께 `위기후 한국노동시장`에서 심화되어 온 불평등의 조직적 메카니즘을 설명하는데 있다. 현재 한국사회에서 확산, 심화되고 있는 불평등은 개인이 아니라 젠더, 고용지위 등 개인이 속한 범주의 위치에 좌우되는 경향이 농후하다. 정규-비정규로 구분되는 고용형태는 단순히 특정 고용계약관계에 대한 지시어가 아니라 불평등 담론의 지형내에서 지위범주로 제도화되었으며, 젠더 등 오랜 기간 노동시장 격차에 작용해 온 여타 사회 범주와 결합해 노동시장 불평등을 고착하는 데 기능하고 있다. 이 연구는 희소한 조직자원에 대한 접근능력을 기초로 자원접근과 보상의 배타성을 주장(claims making)하는 기존 내부자집단과 주변적 지위로 분류되고 배제된 외부자 집단간 관계적 불평등(relational inequality)에 주목하고, 한국의 맥락에서 관계적 불평등을 재생산하는 실질적 조직 관행(practices)으로서 연공성 임금의 역할을 분석하였다. 조직이 연공성 임금에 의존할수록 해당 조직의 비정규, 특히 여성비정규직의 비중이 체계적으로 증가하며, 정규직과 비정규직 간 임금 격차 역시 의미있게 증가한다는 점을 분석적으로 제시함으로써, 내부자가 이익 재생산을 위해 명시적 혹은 암묵적으로 요구하는 연공 임금체계가 노동시장 분절에 관계한다는 점을 입증하였다. This study aims at explaining organizational mechanisms of inequality that has been rising rapidly alongside the proliferation of irregular employment in the post-crisis Korean labor market. It argues that inequality is not sufficiently explained by individual gap in human capital or widespread marketization as such. Social categories into which each individual worker falls seems more important as a source of labor market inequality. Employment types that are composed of regular and irregular employment do not simply indicate the different economic meanings of employment contracts but have rather been institutionalized as a social category of status in the context of inequality over the past two decades. They are also often matched with other social categories such as gender that have created and reproduced greater labor market inequality. We pay attention to the organizational practice of dominant incumbents who make claims for advantages of return based on their exclusive accessibility to limited organizational resources and explain how that particular practice plays a role to increase relational inequality between those insiders who achieve advantageous returns and outsiders mostly irregular workers who are excluded from those resources because of the social categories that they belong to. In this study, we identify seniority based pay as the key organizational practice that justifies categorical differences within the workplace and examine how that particular practice contributes to organizational level segmentation and income ineqaulity.

        ‘소셜과 혁신’을 바라보는 대학생의 양가적 시선: 사회학 실습 교육 사례

        이 글은 사회학 실습수업 수강생의 연구 활동을 매개로, ‘사회적으로 의미 있는’ 일을 하는 청년의 활동과 그 활동을 관찰하는 수강생의 인식을 좇는 액자 구조의 보고다. 지난 10여 년간 청년이 사회혁신의 주체가 될 수 있다는 담론이 형성되면서, 정부와 기업, 관련 NGO는 ‘기업가정신’과 ‘실험성’을 강조하고 ‘사회혁신’을 목표로 내건 다양한 청년 중심 프로젝트를 기획하고 지원해 왔다. 그러나 정작 사회혁신의 주체가 되는 청년이 누구인지, 이들의 활동은 무엇인지에 대해 알려진 것은 그리 많지 않다. 이 연구는 2017년과 2018년에 서울 소재 A대학 사회학 실습수업에 참여한 사회학 (부)전공생의 눈으로 본 청년 사회혁신가 및 사회혁신 활동의 특성을 기술하고, 청년-사회혁신의 장(場) 밖에 있는 대학생의 인식을 분석한 결과다. 주요 발견은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 수강생이 관찰한 ‘사회적으로 의미 있는’ 일은 활동 주체의 성격과 참여의 맥락, 실천 방식에 따라 ‘비즈니스’와 ‘활동’, 그리고 ‘운동’으로 구분될 수 있었다. 둘째, 대체로 졸업을 앞둔 수강생들은 자신과 연구대상자를 서로 다른 사람들로 인식하는 경향을 보였다. 셋째, 연구를 진행한 학생들은 불확실성을 수용하고 기업가정신을 적극적으로 내면화한 혁신(사업)가의 정체성 이면에 강도 높은 불안감이 공존하고 있다는 점에 주목하면서 청년 사회혁신 활동의 지속가능성을 소극적으로 평가했다. 나아가 수강생들은 ‘청년’을 동질 집단으로 규정하는 사회적 시각에, 청년을 ‘사회혁신’을 마땅히 이루어내어야 할 존재로 전제하는 사회적 기대에 불편한 감정을 드러내기도 했다. This study looks into the activities of young people who are doing ‘socially meaningful work’ that are reflected by university students’ research projects on social innovation activities. Over the past decade, a discourse has been formed that emphasizes the subjectivities of the youth carrying out social innovation. The government, corporations, and relevant NGOs have been planning, facilitating and supporting various youth-centered projects that incorporate the notion of ‘entrepreneurship’ and ‘experiment’ and promote social innovation. However, less is known about what sorts of people are (or can be) actually engaged in the social innovation and what their actual activities are. The well-known success stories of a few high-profile social ventures are biased, with little reflection of reality. In addition, most analysis of social innovation experiments led by young people have been done mainly by policymakers and professional researchers from the government, corporations, and NGOs. Against this backdrop, less is documented about how young people ‘in general’ perceive the ongoing youth-centered social innovation practices. This study identifies the characteristics of youth social innovators and social innovation programs seen through the eyes of undergraduates who participated in sociology practice classes at a university in Seoul from 2017 to 2018. The main findings include: First, we classified the young peoples practices of ‘socially meaningful work’ into three categories: ‘business’, ‘activity’, and ‘movement’. The characteristics of the practitioners discovered by the students, seem significantly different in the context of their participation, and the nature of their activities. Second, the students tended to differentiate themselves from those social innovators devoted to socially meaningful work in various ways. Third, the students also tended to evaluate the sustainability of the young people’s social innovation activities somewhat negatively. They found that intense anxiety coexisted behind the innovative entrepreneurs who accepted uncertainty in their activities and actively internalized their entrepreneurial identity.
