      • Study on diuretic activity and electrolytes excretion of methanol extract of Lippia nodiflora (Verbenaceae) in rats

D., Ashok Kumar,GP, Senthilkumar,V., Thamil selvan,UK, Mazumder,M., Gupta,SK, Ray Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Research Center 2008 Oriental pharmacy and experimental medicine Vol.8 No.1

In the Indian traditional medicine, Lippia nodiflora (Verbenaceae) whole plant is claimed to possess powerful diuretic activity. However, the diuretic potential of this plant is not yet investigated. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diuretic potential of methanol extract of Lippia nodiflora (MELN) in rats. Control (0.9% saline solution, 25 ml/kg, b.w) or urea (1 g/kg b.w) or frusemide (5 mg/kg b.w) and different concentrations of MELN (200 and 400 mg/kg b.w) were intraperitoneally administered (n = 6 per each treatment group) to hydrated rats and their urine output was monitored over a period of 5 h and 24 h after drug administration. The diuretic responses with its electrolyte excretion potency of the extract were highly remarkable in comparison with control animals. The extract at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg shows a significant increase in volume of urine with increase in $Na^{+}$, $Ca^{2+}$ and $Cl^{-}$ excretion accompanied by the excretion of $K^{+}$ in dose dependent manner. This study suggests that the active component(s) in MELN had similar diuretic effect to that of frusemide. These results validate the traditional use of Lippia nodiflora as a diuretic agent.

Performance of 4D-Var Data Assimilation on Extreme Snowfall Forecasts over the Western Himalaya Using WRF Model

        Narasimha Rao Nalamasu,M S Shekhar,GP Singh 한국기상학회 2021 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.57 No.3

The accurate predictions of extreme precipitation/snowfall events are very helpful in identifying the severe avalanche/landslide prone hazard areas in advance over high mountainous regions. The Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF) version 3.9 has been used to investigate the performance of Four-Dimensional Variational data assimilation (4D-Var) on Three-Dimensional Variational data assimilation (3D-Var) by considering two extreme snowfall events (23–26 January 2017 and 05–08 February 2019) over the Western Himalaya (WH). The result shows that the 4D-Var performed better than the 3D-Var for both the events by analyzing domain-averaged error and sensitivity parameter analysis. The initial state model variable’s domain-averaged error analysis revealed that 4D-Var has great potential to improve the initial conditions than the 3D-Var from lower to the upper atmosphere. Sensitivity parameter analysis also supports 4D-Var has more sensitive than the 3D-var especially in the lower and upper atmosphere by changing temperature and moisture fields along with winds circulations. From statistical skill scores analysis, 4D-Var performed well to reproduce the extreme snowfall events than the 3D-Var over WH.

제왕절개술후 산욕기에 초음파로 진단된 심부 정맥 혈전증 1 예

        김인현,조진호,장성운,김기형,권태희,이경포 대한산부인과학회 1999 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.42 No.7

Venous thrombosis is a complication which accounts for about 40% of causes of postoperative deaths. it developes from deep vein thrombosis of the lower leg, and shows general signs and symptoms in 50% of the cases. the most severe complication of deep vein thrombosis from the lower leg is embolization of the thrombus, which brings about pulmonary embolism. Pregnancy and certain gynecological operations are considered risk situations for the development of thromboembolic complications. The risk of fatal embolism after cesarean section is sixteen times higher than after vaginal delivery. Furthermore, it is becoming increasingly clear that these major embolic threats lie in thrombosis of veins above the knee. We present a case of deep vein thrombosis which was diagnosed by ultrasonography on the postoperative 6th day after cesarean section and was managed with heparin therapy.

Hepatoprotective activity of methanol extracts of Glinus oppositifolius andTrianthema decandra against paracetamol induced liver damage

        M Gupta,UK Mazumder,CC Kandar,PK Haldar,L Manikandan,GP Senthilkumar 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2007 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.7 No.1

The plants, Trianthema decandra and Glinus oppositifolius are commonly used by tribal people in India for the treatment of liver diseases. Hepatoprotective activity of methanol extracts of Glinus oppositifolius and Trianthema decandra at the dose of 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight administered orally was evaluated against paracetamol induced liver damage in rats. Biochemical parameters such as serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase, serum alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, total serum protein, lipid peroxide and glutathione content of the liver were estimated to determine liver function and metabolism. From the biochemical observations, it was concluded that methanol extracts of Glinus oppositifolius and Trianthema decandra significantly restored the altered biochemical parameters towards normal condition in paracetamol induced liver damage. Evaluation of the analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties of methanolextract of Artanema sesamoides Benth roots in animal models

        Malaya Gupta,UK Mazumder,V Thamil Selvan,L Manikandan,Senthilkumar GP,R Suresh,P Gomathi,B Ashok Kumar 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2008 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.8 No.2

The methanol extract of the root of Artanema sesamoides Family Scrophuilariaceae (MEAS) was investigated for possible analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects in animals. Three models were used to study the extract effects on nociception, which were acetic acid-induced writhing response, hot-plate method and the tail flick test in mice. The antiinflammatory effects were evaluated using carrageenan, dextran, histamine and serotonin induced rat paw oedema (acute) and cotton pellet induced granuloma (chronic) models in rats. Results of the study revealed that the extract exhibited significant (P < 0.001) analgesic effect at a dose of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg b.w p.o in mice in all the models. In acute model, the MEAS also exhibited significant (P < 0.001) antiinflammatory effect in all the above mentioned doses. In chronic model (cotton pellet induced granuloma) the MEAS 200 mg/kg and indomethacin 10 mg/kg showed that inhibition of granuloma formation 25.0% and 47.7% respectively (P < 0.001). The MEAS and indomethacin were effectively preventing the transudation of the fluid. Thus, the present study revealed that the methanol extract of the root of Artanema sesamoides exhibited significant analgesic and antiinflammatory activity. • Protective effect of Indigofera aspalathoides in chemical induced gastric mucosal lesions in rats

Gupta, M,Mazumder, UK,Haldar, PK,Kander, CC,Manikandan, L,Senthilkumar, GP Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Research Center 2006 Oriental pharmacy and experimental medicine Vol.6 No.1

The plant Indigofera aspalathoides is used by a large number of tribes in India for the treatment of various hepatic disorders and abscesses. The methanol extract of Indigofera aspalathoides (MEIA) was evaluated for its protective effects on gastric mucosal lesion in Wister albino rats against indomethacin, histamine and ethanol induced gastric mucosal damage. The response to MEIA was assessed using the ulcer index, thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), and glutahione level. MEIA pretreatment showed protection against chemical induced gastric mucosal damage, a significant reduction in the ulcer index and TBARS activity and increase glutathione level as compared with that of standard drugs.
