The defatted methanol extract of Raphanus sativus Linn. (Cruciferae) seed (MERS) was evaluated for its antisteroidogenic potential in mature female Swiss albino mice. The methanol extract at the doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight significantly elevated the levels of cholesterol and ascorbic acid contents which serve as a precursor for the synthesis of steroid hormones in ovaries. The extract also significantly inhibited glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and Δ 5-3β-hydroxy steroid dehydrogenase, the two key enzymes involved in ovarian steroidogenesis. Hence the extract (MERS) exhibited significant antisteroidogenic activity. The defatted methanol extract of Raphanus sativus Linn. The plant Indigofera aspalathoides is used by a large number of tribes in India for the treatment of various hepatic disorders and abscesses. The methanol extract of Indigofera aspalathoides (MEIA) was evaluated for its protective effects on gastric mucosal lesion in Wister albino rats against indomethacin, histamine and ethanol induced gastric mucosal damage. The response to MEIA was assessed using the ulcer index, thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), and glutahione level. MEIA pretreatment showed protection against chemical induced gastric mucosal damage, a significant reduction in the ulcer index and TBARS activity and increase glutathione level as compared with that of standard drugs.

The plants, Trianthema decandra and Glinus oppositifolius are commonly used by tribal people in India for the treatment of liver diseases. Hepatoprotective activity of methanol extracts of Glinus oppositifolius and Trianthema decandra at the dose of 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight administered orally was evaluated against paracetamol induced liver damage in rats. Biochemical parameters such as serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase, serum alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, total serum protein, lipid peroxide and glutathione content of the liver were estimated to determine liver function and metabolism. From the biochemical observations, it was concluded that methanol extracts of Glinus oppositifolius and Trianthema decandra significantly restored the altered biochemical parameters towards normal condition in paracetamol induced liver damage.

In present study evaluate the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity of the compound obtained from the petroleum ether (40 - 60℃) extract of the fruits from Dregea volubilis in Swiss albino mice and in Wister albino rats respectively. Dried and crushed fruits of Dregea volubilis were extracted by petroleum ether (40 - 60℃), the proper solvent system was developed by TLC and subjected to column chromatography for obtaining the pure compound/s. IR, MASS, NMR (PMR, C13 NMR and DEPT) spectroscopic analysis were done to elucidate the structure of the compound/s. The petroleum ether (40 - 60℃) extract of the fruits of Dregea volubilis led to isolation of a pentacyclic triterpenoid designated as taraxerone and characterized as D- friedoolean- 14- en, 3 one. Taraxerone had been screened for analgesic activity in Swiss albino mice and anti-inflammatory activity in Wister albino rats at the dose of 5 mg/kg body weight orally and exhibit significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.
