The effects of manufacturing methods of tea on the chemical components and the physiological function of tea were studied. Tea samples were manufactured by three different methods with the same fresh tea leaves which were plucked on the same date at the same place. The tea manufacturing methods were ① the steamed method. ② pan fired method of the conventional style and ③ the new pan fired method of Eguchi style with high pressure and airtight pan. The difference of manufacturing methods was hardly affected on contents of minerals, amino acids and caffeine in infusions. However, catechins in tea manufacturing by pan fired method of Eguchi style were more than that in teas manufacturing by other methods. As to the antioxidative activity, the tea manufacturing by pan fired method of Eguchi style was also the highest of all others. The tea tissues at the cross section were observed by a scanning electron microscope. As a result, the destruction of tea tissue was confirmed for the teas manufacturing by pan fired method. These results would have been due to the complete inactivation of polyphenol oxidase and the destruction of tea tissues by the manufacturing process at high temperature with airtight pan.

Nine previously described forms of Asian Pheidole species are synomimized, based on the reexamination of the type materials: Pheidole attila Forel, 1913 is synonymized with P. capellinii Emergy, 1887; Pheidole exasperata var. concordia Santschi, 1916 and P. e. var. fusiformis Viehmeryer, 1914, with P. aglae Forel, 1913; P. multicoma Eguchi, 19999, with P. comata F. Smith, 1858; P. havilandi var. sapuana Foreal, 1911 and P. h. var. selangorensis Forel, 1913, with P. havilandi Forel, 1911; P. huberi var. perakensis Forel, 1911, with P. huberi Forel, 1911; P. nodgii r. maxwellensis Forel, 1913, with P. magrettii Emery, 1887; P. treubi Forel, 1905, with P. noda Fr. Smith, 1874. P. nodgii var. tjibodana Forel, 1905 and P. sauberi subsp. sarawakana Forel, 1911 are considered to the good biological species. Lectotypes are designated for 31 forms of Asian Pheidole. Either rediscription or taxonomic remarks are given for each species.

Re-creating "India" through Ritual and Musical Practices in Pittsburgh, USA
Eguchi Yuko 아시아음악학회 2008 Asian Musicology Vol.12 No.-
In the suburbs of Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania, U.S.A, sits the Sri Venkateswara Temple, the oldest Hindu Temple constructed in the Penn Hills section of Pittsburgh in 1976. Living on the opposite side of the globe, diasporic Indians in Pittsburgh reconstruct their "home" surroundings and rigidly follow the Indian religion, tradition, and culture-especially inside the Sri Venkateswara Temple. In fact, the temple is a small version of "India" itself; things that are experienced in daily lives in India are reproduced and materialized by priests and devotees every day inside the temple. Immigrant Indians often feel alienated from their host society, and attending rituals, music and dance concerts, lectures and language classes in the Sri Venkateswara Temple provide diasporic Indians not only psychological consolation, but an aid to construct their identities as Indian. In Indian traditions, the boundary between "sacred" and "secular" is vague, and diasporic Indians usually express their Indian identities through "performing" their tradition. In this essay, I focus on Indian-Americans' (especially Hindu Tamils) perceptions of religion and culture by examining a musical performance during a ritual ceremony and a children's Sunday school session based on field research from 2006 and 2007. I address the following question: What roles do ritual ceremonies and musical practices play in constructing notions of "India" in Pittsburgh? My findings show how essentialized notions of culture are central to identity construction in diasporic communities.
Recent Developments in Discriminant Analysis fro man Information Geometric Point of View
Eguchi, Shinto,Copas, John B. The Korean Statistical Society 2001 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.30 No.2
This paper concerns a problem of classification based on training dta. A framework of information geometry is given to elucidate the characteristics of discriminant functions including logistic discrimination and AdaBoost. We discuss a class of loss functions from a unified viewpoint.
