As a method of variable valve train(VVT), Electromagnetic valve(EMV) has been studied.
Compared with conventional VVT system, the EMV system has a relatively simple structure.
The system has two electromagnets, springs and an armature. The system can be operated by reciprocal action between armature and two electromagnets. And, the operating event can be controlled by electrical signal from controller. Therefore, reduction of emission and fuel consumption can be achieved through valve event control at each engine operating condition.
In this study, characteristics of EMV system were investigated by simulations and experiments. The results of simulation and experiment show that the core shape and material characteristics are dominant parameters on magnetic force and delay time. In order to apply the system to commercial engine, it has a compact size and high stiffness springs(50N/mm) to increase the valve speed. Because of high valve seating velocity, loud noise and high impact force generated, which can lead to reduction of actuator durability. Therefore, further research is required to reduce valve seating velocity

This paper presents the effects of design and operating parameters to meet the static and dynamic performances of the electromagnetic valve (EMV) actuator which can give us more flexible controllability of valve events compared to conventional variable valve actuation devices.
The model of the EMV system was also set up and applied to identify the dynamic behavior of the system. And. the effects of external disturbances were also reviewed such as cylinder pressure. armature neutral position and current supplying time effects and so on.
Experiments are earned out to verify the model using the prototype actuator on test bench we find that there is a relatively good agreement between experimental data and modeling results. Also. the actuators meet the general engine speed range (over 6000rpm) and the variable valve event control for various VVT effects.
The electromagnetic valve (EMV) actuation system is to be considered as a new technology for the improvement of efficiency and the reduction of emissions in 51 engines. It can give us more flexible controllability of valve events compared to conventional variable valve actuation devices. However. it needs more powerful and efficient actuator design and its control in order to apply to mass production engine.
This paper presents the effects of design and operating parameters to meet the static and dynamic performances of actuator. Employing the finite clement method (FEM). the magnetic fill" flow pattern and the magnetic force were analyzed for the several cases of core and armature design. The prototype actuator was developed and experimented on test bench. And, the experimental results shows relatively good agreements with analyzed results for the actuator design
A multi-polynomial method is proposed to synthesize DRRD cam protiles. A cam Jill duration is divided into 10 sections. cach of them is expressed by a polynomial equation. 12 design variables are extracted from the cam profile displacement. velocity, and acceleration curves. Because all the design variables have physical meanings which arc familiar to most cam designers, it is easy to imagine a profile shape from the design variables. The design envelope of the method is wide enough to be used in DRRD automotive cam designs. Polydyne cams, widely used in automotive engines. are included into the envelope. Unlike Polydyne cams. the method provides capability of wide velocity factor variations. which gives much flexibility in flat-faced t:Jppet design. Area factor of profiles designed by the method can be increased 5 - 10% compared to those of Polydyne cams without increasing acceleration factor. The method is especially useful for cam profile optimizations.
A Study on the Design of Electromagnetic Valve Actuator for VVT Engine
Seung-hyun Park,Dojoong Kim,Byunghk Rhee,Jaisuk Yoo,Jonghwa Lee 대한기계학회 2003 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.17 No.3
Electromagnetic valve (EMV) actuation system is a new technology for improving fuel efficiency and at the same time reducing emissions in internal combustion engines. It can provide more flexibility in valve event control compared with conventional variable valve actuation devices. The electromagnetic valve actuator must be designed by taking the operating conditions and engine geometry limits of the internal combustion engine into account. To help develop a simple design method, this paper presents a procedure for determine the basic design parameters and dimensions of the actuator from the relations of the valve dynamics, electromagnetic circuit and thermal loading condition based on the lumped method. To verify the accuracy of the lumped method analysis, experimental study is also carried out on a prototype actuator. It is found that there is a relatively good agreement between the experimental data and the results of the proposed design procedure. Through the whole speed range, the actuator maintains proper performances in valve timing and event control.

We have always attempted to create a standard treatment protocol for patients with gastric cancer. However, many debates still exist regarding gastric cancer treatment. For the past 2 years, at the Annual Congress of the Korean Gastric Cancer Association, we have presented a grand symposium on the “Debates on the strategy for treating gastric cancer”. In 2008, four major topics were discussed and voted on after discussion. The four major topics were proximal location treatment for early gastric cancer, management choices for pyloric obstruction with advanced gastric cancer, management of liver metastasis, and reconstruction methods after a distal gastrectomy. The opinions of the audience for six minor topics were expressed by an electronic voting system. In 2009, the four main topics were treatment for submucosal tumor sized around 2 cm, laparoscopic gastrectomy in T2N1 gastric cancer, choices for managing gastric lymphoma, and application of a pylorus preserving procedure for early gastric cancer at the antrum. The opinions of the audience for these six minor topics were expressed by an electronic voting system, as was conducted in 2008. It was good opportunity to identify a point of contact about the debates on managing gastric cancer. The results of these debates and studies will identify the best methods to treat patients with gastric cancer.
