Oxidize Graphene by UV-Ozone Treatment in Vacuum Chamber
Dinh, S. Thach,Pham, T. H. Nhung,Nguyen, T. T. Hien,Dinh, N. T. Nghia,Vu, V. Quang,Hoang, T. K. Dung,Duong, D. Loc American Scientific Publishers 2016 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.16 No.8

As changing graphene properties is vital to promote it as electronic device, we developed graphene modified method with epoxy group by two simple methods: ultraviolet irradiation with various partial oxygen pressures and ultraviolet irradiation under rich oxygen condition with various temperatures. By Hall measurement, the electric mobility in graphene was decreased with increasing temperature during UV-ozone treatment at 50 degrees C, 80 degrees C, 100 degrees C and 120 degrees C. At low partial oxygen pressure (less than 160 Torr) the oxidation degree is not significant. Additionally, Raman spectroscopy showed the disrupted pi-pi structure in graphene. Based on the above identification we supposed that epoxy group might establish on graphene surface.

While there have been numerous papers analyzing the political, economic and social effects of trust, there is little evidence on how social trust has an impact on property rights protection which is fundamental for promoting economic development. This study aims to investigate how trust value is related to property rights protection, focusing on the comparison of the effect on intellectual property rights versus physical property rights. Analyzing the data on property rights protection in 2015 from the Property Right Alliance organization and trust value from the World Value Survey from 1999 to 2014, we find that social trust has a direct effect only on intellectual property rights protection but less consistent on physical property rights protection. However, trust value has indirect effect on both forms of property rights protection via formal institutions. Our study, thus, adds to the literature by clarifying the context through which trust value affects cheating behaviors.

Despite the increasing understanding of the regulation of chloroplast gene expression in plants, the importance of intron splicing and processing of chloroplast RNA transcripts under stress conditions is largely unknown. Here, to understand how abiotic stresses affect the intron splicing and expression patterns of chloroplast genes in dicots and monocots, we carried out a comprehensive analysis of the intron splicing and expression patterns of chloroplast genes in the coffee plant (Coffea arabica) as a dicot and rice (Oryza sativa) as a monocot under abiotic stresses, including drought, cold, or combined drought and heat stresses. The photosynthetic activity of both coffee plants and rice seedlings was significantly reduced under all stress conditions tested. Analysis of the transcript levels of chloroplast genes revealed that the splicing of tRNAs and mRNAs in coffee plants and rice seedlings were significantly affected by abiotic stresses. Notably, abiotic stresses affected differently the splicing of chloroplast tRNAs and mRNAs in coffee plants and rice seedlings. The transcript levels of most chloroplast genes were markedly downregulated in both coffee plants and rice seedlings upon stress treatment. Taken together, these results suggest that coffee and rice plants respond to abiotic stresses via regulating the intron splicing and expression of different sets of chloroplast genes. A local survey of Chrysomelidae in a coastal area of some 10 km2 in the Núi Chúa National Park (Ninh Thuan, S Vietnam) yielded a remarkable number of Galerucinae. Most of them, up to 18 species, could be ascribed to the informal group Monoleptites, i.e. galerucines with very long first metatarsomere, longer than the remaining four combined. These representatives ofMonoleptites constitute a strongly supportedmonophyletic group based on a combined analysis of one mtDNA (cox1) and one nuclear (wnt) marker, and include up to thirteen species which are not recognisable as species previously described or reported fromVietnamor neighbouring countries. These species are described herein, including eleven species tentatively assigned to the genus Monolepta Chevrolat (M. decreta sp. nov., M. deminuta sp. nov., M. densopunctata sp. nov., M. dubia sp. nov., M. fluctuans sp. nov., M. fuscicorne sp. nov., M. interruptomarginata sp. nov., M. ochracea sp. nov., M. praetexta sp. nov., M. quotidiana sp. nov. and M. thomaswagneri sp. nov.) and two to the genus Paleosepharia Laboissière (P. frontis sp. nov. and P. nuichua sp. nov.). Moreover, the name Desbordelepta nom. nov. is proposed to remove the homonymy of Desbordesius Laboissière, 1936 nec Maindron, 1906, and the spermatheca of D. picea (Kimoto) andmale and female genitalia of M. dalatica Kimoto and M. semicostata Kimoto are described for the first time. Finally, a molecular analysis of putative diets based on the identification of chloroplastic psbA-trnH sequences obtained from total DNA extractions of the beetles, provides with some robust hypotheses for the diet of these animals, showing that they are polyphagous, and able to utilise a wide range of mainly eudicots in their environment. The results of this study roughly represent a 12% increase in the number of known species of the Monoleptites group in Vietnam and highlight the need for a profound revision of generic attributes in this group.
N-Capping Effects of Stapled Heptapeptides on Antimicrobial and Hemolytic Activities
Thuy T. T. Dinh,김도희,Thang Q. Nguyen,이봉진,김영우 대한화학회 2015 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.36 No.10
In our previous study, we showcased the potential of an all-hydrocarbon stapled heptapeptide as a privileged scaffold for the design of artificial antimicrobial peptides. We demonstrated that the amphipathic helicity and the subtle balance between hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity are important structural features for the antimicrobial activities of this class of antimicrobial agents. In this study, we show that elimination of the N-acetyl cap can further improve the pharmacological properties of the most potent stapled heptapeptides. The structure–activity relationships newly established in this study would serve as a critical asset for the further development of a new class of antimicrobial agents to combat the rising problem of antibiotic resistance.

Abstract

In the present article, static response and free vibration of functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) rectangular plate resting on Winkler–Pasternak elastic foundations using an analytical approach are studied. The rectangular plates are reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) which are assumed to be graded through the thickness direction with four types of distributions. The mathematical model of the FG-CNTRC plate is developed based on the first-order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT) and Hamilton principle. By using Navier solution, the governing equations are solved to obtain the central deflection and the natural frequency parameters. Several examples are verified to have higher accuracy than those from the previous method in the literature. Also, the effects of different parameters on static response and natural frequency of FG-CNTRC plate are highlighted by solving numerous examples. Finally, these new results may serve as benchmarks for future investigations.

Study of Nanostructured Polymeric Composites and Hybrid Layers Used for Light-Emitting Diodes

Nanocomposite polymeric thin lms of poly(2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethyl hexyloxy)phenylene vinylene) (MEH-PPV) with nano-crystalline titanium oxide (nc-TiO2) and polycarbazole (PVK) with cadmium selenide (CdSe) were fabricated by spin-coating. A 20-nm-thick nanocrystalline (molyb-denum oxide) MoO3 layer prepared by using thermal oxidation was also spin-coated with a PVK film. A study of photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the polymers and nanocomposites showed an enhancement in the photoluminescence from the nanocomposites. Moreover, MEH-PPV+nc-TiO2 composites exhibited a blue-shift of the PL spectrum as compared to that of the polymer film. The current-voltage characteristics of the Mo/nc-MoO3/PVK/Al-Au structures show that a semitransparent metallic coating or a transparent polymer can serve as a cathode in devices with enhanced charge carrier injection.

This study aimed to analyze the sex ratio, spawning seasons, length at first maturity, length distribution, length–weight relationship, and relative condition factor of Cultellus maximus (Gmelin, 1791) in Southern Vietnam. A total of 1037 individuals of C. maximus were collected at 3 sampling sites from June, 2019 to June, 2020. The sex ratio was found to be female biased in Can Gio and male biased in Phu Tan and Ngoc Hien. The clam spawns throughout the year, peaking at Q2 and Q3 during the rainy season. Pooled length at first maturity was 10.12 cm (9.65–10.49 cm CI 95%, P-value < 2.2·10–16). The length–weight relationship indicates positive allometric growth. This study suggests that imposing a minimum harvest size limit on C. maximus using the length at first maturity as reference and with harvest seasons in Q1 in Ngoc Hien and Can Gio and Q2 or Q3 in Phu Tan would be ideal for consumption of this species.
