        Water soluble tomato concentrate regulates platelet function via the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway

        Tomato extract has been shown to exert antiplatelet activity in vitro and to change platelet function ex vivo, but with limitations. In this study, antiplatelet activity of water soluble tomato concentrate (Fruitflow I) and dry water soluble tomato concentrate (Fruitflow II) was investigated using rat platelets. Aggregation was induced by collagen and adenosine diphosphate and granule-secretion, $[Ca^{2+}]_i$, thromboxane B2, cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) levels were examined. The activation of integrin ${\alpha}_{IIb}{\beta}_3$ and phosphorylation of signaling molecules, including mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and PI3K/Akt, were investigated by flow cytometry and immunoblotting, respectively. Prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) were examined. Moreover, in vivo thrombus weight was tested by an arteriovenous shunt model. Fruitflow I and Fruitflow II significantly inhibited agonist induced platelet aggregation, adenosine triphosphate and serotonin release, $[Ca^{2+}]_i$, and thromboxane B2 concentration, while having no effect on cAMP and cGMP levels. Integrin ${\alpha}_{IIb}{\beta}_3$ activation was also significantly decreased. Moreover, both concentrates reduced phosphorylation of MAPK pathway factors such as ERK, JNK, P38, and PI3K/Akt. In vivo thrombus formation was also inhibited. Taken together, these concentrates have the potential for ethnomedicinal applications to prevent cardiovascular ailments and can be used as functional foods.

        Ginsenoside Rg3-enriched red ginseng extract inhibits platelet activation and in vivo thrombus formation

        Background: Korean Red Ginseng has been used for several decades to treat many diseases, enhancing both immunity and physical strength. Previous studies have documented the therapeutic effects of ginseng, including its anticancer, antiaging, and anti-inflammatory activities. These activities are mediated by ginsenosides present in the ginseng plant. Ginsenoside Rg3, an effective compound from red ginseng, has been shown to have antiplatelet activity in addition to its anticancer and anti-inflammatory activities. Platelets are important for both primary hemostasis and the repair of the vessels after injury; however, they also play a crucial role in the development of acute coronary diseases. We prepared ginsenoside Rg3-enriched red ginseng extract (Rg3-RGE) to examine its role in platelet physiology. Methods: To examine the effect of Rg3-RGE on platelet activation in vitro, platelet aggregation, granule secretion, intracellular calcium ($[Ca^{2+}]_i$) mobilization, flow cytometry, and immunoblot analysis were carried out using rat platelets. To examine the effect of Rg3-RGE on platelet activation in vivo, a collagen plus epinephrine-induced acute pulmonary thromboembolism mouse model was used. Results: We found that Rg3-RGE significantly inhibited collagen-induced platelet aggregation and $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ mobilization in a dose-dependent manner in addition to reducing ATP release from collagen-stimulated platelets. Furthermore, using immunoblot analysis, we found that Rg3-RGE markedly suppressed mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphorylation (i.e., extracellular stimuli-responsive kinase, Jun N-terminal kinase, p38) as well as the PI3K (phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase)/Akt pathway. Moreover, Rg3-RGE effectively reduced collagen plus epinephrine-induced mortality in mice. Conclusion: These data suggest that ginsenoside Rg3-RGE could be potentially be used as an antiplatelet therapeutic agent against platelet-mediated cardiovascular disorders.

        청소년의 그릿, 학업열의 및 학업성취도의 종단적 변화

        본 연구에서는 한국아동․청소년패널조사(KCYPS)의 1차년도부터 3 차년도까지 3년간의 종단자료를 사용하여 그릿, 학업열의 및 학업성취 도의 변화를 각각 알아보았다. 또한 그릿, 학업열의가 학업성취도에 미 치는 직접적․간접적인 효과를 확인하였다. 다변량 잠재성장모형 검증 결과, 그릿과 학업열의의 변화율이 통계적으로 유의하지 않았고, 3년간 상대적으로 안정적인 모습을 나타냈다. 반면, 학업성취도의 변화율은 정적으로 나타났다. 성장요인들의 관계에서는 행복감이 그릿에 정적인 영향을 주었고, 그릿의 초깃값 역시 학업열의의 초깃값을 정적으로 예 측하였다. 또한 초기 학업열의 수준이 높은 청소년은 상대적으로 학업 성취도가 높게 나타났다. 간접효과를 분석한 결과, 그릿이 학업열의를 매개하여 학업성취도에 미치는 영향은 유의하게 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 청소년의 학업성취도 향상을 위해 그릿과 학업열의 수 준을 높이기 위한 정책적 개입 방안을 시사점으로 제시하였다. This study examined the changes of grit, academic engagement, and academic achievement of adolescents in the 1st(year 2018) to 3rd(year 2020) data of KCYPS 2018. We also investigated how growth factors of grit and academic engagement would predict academic achievement directly and indirectly. Multivariate latent growth modeling was used to analyze data. Results demonstrates that growth rates of grit and academic engagement were not statistically significant, meaning that they were stable from first to third years. However, the growth rates of academic achievement was statistically significant. Happiness predicted 1st year’s grit, which in turn, positively affected academic engagement. Students who had higher initial status of academic engagement had higher academic achievement. Lastly, the mediating effect of academic engagement between grit and academic achievement was statistically significant.

        병원에서 마을로 ― 거제 지역사회건강사업으로 본 1970년대 의료 소외지역의 지역보건 실험

        이 연구는 한국의 지역보건사업의 모태가 되는 ‘거제 지역사회건강사업’을 통해 지역보건사업의 성격을 역사적으로 해명하는 것을 목표로 한다. 거제 지역사회건강사업은 1960년대 말부터 지역주민의 요구를 바탕으로 약 10년간 실시된 의료선 교사 주도의 보건의료사업으로, 1970-80년대에 진행된 지역사회보건사업들의 시초이다. 본 사업은 기존의 병원 중심의 의료모델을 탈피하여 지역사회 중심의 보건 의료, 지역주민의 참여를 통한 건강개선을 강조하며 새로운 보건의료 모델을 실험하였다. 거제 지역사회건강사업은 1960년대 중반 이후 주목받고 있던 지역사회의 학을 적용한 것이었고, 마을건강사업을 비롯한 사업의 내용들은 1970년대 중반 이후의 정부 보건개발 정책 수립에도 영향을 주었다. 특히 지역 주민들이 보조 보건인력으로 사업에 참여하고 주민 주도로 마을의 건강상태를 개선하고자 시도한 것은 새로운 지역보건 모델로서 중요한 의미를 지니고 있었다. 그러나 사업 범위가 확대되고 정부 주도로 주체가 교체되는 과정에서 지역별 특수성과 지역주민의 이해관계는 오히려 장애 요소로 인식되었다. 행정적인 사업의 확대 과정에서 지역주민의 주체화는 큰 고려대상이 되지 못했다. 결과적으로 지역사회에 대한 이해와 지역주민 참여 문제는 거제 지역사회건강사업의 성과와 한계를 함께 보여주었다. This study elucidates the characteristics of community health programs from a historical perspective, focusing on the Koje Community Health and Development Project. A medical missionary group implemented the Koje Project to address the demands of village leaders living on Koje Island. The pilot project applied new healthcare approaches that focused on community-centered healthcare―primary health care and health improvement through community participation―instead of relying on the existing hospital-centered models. The project goals were developed in conversation with community medicine practices, and the goals’ impact went beyond the immediate community, influencing domestic and international spaces. Unlike previous healthcare policies, the degree of villagers’ involvement became the decisive factor of the project’s success. However, during the project’s expansion from a private to government-led model, its administrators regarded the village voices as obstructive. This reaction presents some of the limitations of villagers as active agents. The Koje Project illustrates the dilemma that community-centered health programs faced during project development and expansion. Understanding communities and their involvement are crucial factors that shed light on the possibilities and limitations of health and social welfare projects.

        주민참여로 마을의 건강을: 1970-80년대 마을건강원 활동과 보건의료에서의 주민참여 논쟁

        This paper aims to historically re-evaluate the issues surrounding resident participation in health care and its legacy by examining the community participation in health care. In the 1970s and 1980s, community participation was one of crucial trends and a controversial topic in the international health as well as the international aid. Throughout the 1970s, local participation was regarded as one of essential elements for the access to basic healthcare and primary health care in developing countries. Community health projects which aimed to apply primary health care were implemented in rural areas and some urban areas in the 1970s and 1980s. Village Health Workers(VHWs) were a symbolic example of community participation in these projects. They consisted of local women and led health activities with simple skills in their villages. They served as a bridge between the project team and the residents. Health professionals expected them to be health leaders for “self-help” in health of their communities. In the mid-1980s, however, as the number of health facilities and professional health care workers increased, the activities of VHSs were decreased. The mixed understanding of the responsibilities and roles of VHSs among the health professionals affected the skeptical view on the achievement and effects of community participation in health care. In the mid-1980s, as the government officially organized the VHWs, the dilemma surrounding community participation intensified. When the community health projects were ended, most of the VHW organizations were also disbanded. After the projects, the spirit of community participation was only inherited by some healthcare movement organizations, such as medical cooperatives.

        초등학생의 언어폭력을 예측하는 변인들 간의 다차원적 구조 분석

        본 연구는 초등학생의 부모, 친구, 교사와의 관계 및 자아존중감, 학교생활적응, 공격성, 우울, 비행, 언어폭력 간의 구조적 관계를 탐색하고, 언어폭력을 예측하는 다차원적 연구모형과 세 가지 경쟁모형의 비교를 통해 초등학생의 언어폭력을 예측하는 다차원적 접근의 유용성을 검증한 것이다. 본 연구를 위해 4~6학년 초등학생 578명의 데이터가 표집 되었고, 내・외생변인들의 측정도구를 활용하여 변인 간의 관계를 검증하였다. 연구 결과, 초등학생이 지각하는 부모, 친구와의 부정적인 관계, 공격성, 우울, 비행은 언어폭력에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 다차원적 연구모형과 세 가지의 경쟁모형 비교를 통해 연구모형의 적합도가 가장 높다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이는 각 변인들이 상호작용하는 다차원적 접근 모형이 언어폭력 예측 모형으로써 유용하다는 것을 의미한다. This study investigated the structural relationship among human relations with parents, peers and teachers, self-esteem, adaptation of school life, aggression, depression, delinquency and verbal violence, and examined the usefulness of multidimensional approaches for the psychological behavioral characteristic study of elementary students through three competitive models and multidimensional approach model proposed in this study. Data were collected from 578 elementary students in grades 4-6. Several tests were employed to verify the relationship among the variables. The results of the analysis are as follows: The negative relationship with parents and peers, aggression, depression and delinquency had a significant influence on verbal violence. The comparison of the models showed that the multidimensional model had the highest goodness of fit. These results underscore the need for a multidimensional approach in examining the psychological and behavioral characteristics of elementary students.
