Lactobacilli, the dominant species of microorganisms in the vaginal flora of healthy women, play important roles to prevent bacterial vaginosis and other sexually transmitted diseases. In this study, we carried out studies on stress adaptation prior to various stress treatment. We found that heat or salt adapted KLB46 showed higher cell viability than non adapted upon heat stress at 60℃ for 20 min. When chloramphenicol was added during the adaptation process, heat tolerance was abolished. This result suggested that de novo protein synthesis was essential during adaptation.

Oral bacteria were isolated and identified from teeth, gums and tongues of patients who were visited at Dentistry of Yeungnam University Medical Center and the effect of chemical substances an the growth of these bacteria was investigated. In result, each isolates was identified as Bacillus pumilus, Bacillus coagulans and Bacillus subtilis var. globigii. It was showed that the MIC of sodium chloride against all the tested strains was M. These oral bacteria were sensitive to antibiotics such as ampicillin, kanamycin and penicillin, however, these organisms have a strong tolerance to the ripampicin. It was confirmed that the growth of oral bacteria was not restrained by use of 1.0% of sodium propionate and sorbic acid.

The effect of oriental medicines an the growth of oral bacteria(B. pumilus JU4, B. coagulans JU6, B. subtilis var globigii JU7 and B. subtilis var. globigii JU9) which were isolated from teeth, gums and tongues of patients was investigated. lt was shown that the water extracts of Glycyrrhiza glabra L. var. glandulifera Regel et Zucc., Schizandrae Fructus and Coptidis Rhizoma have the strong antimicrobial activity against every test organism. Especially, the water extract of Schizandrae Fructus has the most antimicrobial activity against all test bacteria of which MIC were the same as 0.25%. The growth of oral bacteria B. pumilus JU4 was inhibited by addition of the water extracts of Glycyrrhizae Radix, Schizandrae Fructus and Coptidis Rhizoma in the concentration of 0.9%, 0.2% and 0.1% respectively. It was tested that specific growth rates of B. pumilus JU4 in each concentration of the water extracts of Glycyrrhizae Radix, Schizandrae Fructus and Coptidis Rhizoma. From the results, the test showed that mean of specific growth rates of B. pumilus JU4 decreased 102%, 186% and 210% in 3% concentration of the water extracts of Glycyrrhizae Radix, Schizandrae Fructus and Coptidis Rhizoma more than those in control respectively.
유독 이온성 액체의 장기 노출에 대한 Shewanella oneidensis MR-1의 반응

In this study, we investigated the effects of longterm exposure to ionic liquid (IL) on Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 (MR-1). MR1 was acclimated through repeated exposure to IL. The acclimated strain was named as S. oneidensis SH-1 (SH-1) and compared with MR-1 in various aspects including morphology, cell surface hydrophobicity (CSH), motility, and fatty acid. Compared to the MR-1, SH-1 showed elongated cell shape on scanning electron microscopy. Upon exposure to IL, hydrophobicity of SH-1 (28.2%) was higher that of MR-1 (3.3%). In contrast, motility of SH-1 (7 mm) was lower than that also of MR-1 (22 mm), and branched chain fatty acid of SH-1 was lower than that of MR-1, 27.6% and 41.1%, respectively.

Lactic acid is an important product arising from the anaerobic fermentation by lactic acid bacteria (LAB). It is used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical, and food industries as well as for biodegradable polymer and green solvent production. The poly lactic acid (PLA) is an important material for bio-plastic manufacturing process. For PLA production by new LAB, we screened LAB isolates from shellfish. A total of 28 LAB were isolated from various shellfishes. They were all Gram positive, oxidase and catalase negative. Based on API 50CHL kit, 7 strains among the 28 isolates were identified as Lactobacillus plantarum, 6 strains as Lactobacillus delbrueckii, 5 strains as Leuconostoc mesenteroides, 3 strains as Lactobacillus brevis, 2 strains as Lactococcus lactis, 1 strain as Lactobacillus salivarius, 1 strain as Lactobacillus paracasei, 1 strain as Lactobacillus pentosus, 1 strain as Lactobacillus fermentum and 1 strain as Pediococcus pentosaceu. Also, we examined the amount of total lactic acid produced by these new strains by HPLC analysis with Chiralpak MA column. One strain E-3 from Mytilus edulis was indentified as Lactobacillus plantarum and found to produce 20.0 g/L of D-form lactic acid from 20 g/L of dextrose. Further studies are underway to increase the D-lactic acid production by E-3.

집적회로 기술, 무선 통신 기술, 그리고 마이크로 컴퓨팅 등의 기술 발전에 힘입어, 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경을 실현하고 차세대 IT산업을 이끌 새로운 기술로서 센서 네트워크 기술이 점차 주목 받고 있으며 많은 연구가 활발히 수행되고 있다. 향후 센서 네트워크는 이를 구성하는 각각의 센서 노드들, 그리고 더 나아가 센서 네트워크 자체도 지속적으로 생성되거나 소멸되면서 기존의 네트워크와 상호 통신하고 주위환경에 맞추어 변화하며 동적으로 진화해 나갈 전망이며, 서로 다른 주소 체계를 사용하고 있는 이들의 상호 연동이 요구되어지고 있다. 따라서 본 논문은 센서 네트워크와 인터넷과의 상호 통신을 위해 TCP 포트번호 기반 주소 연동 방안을 제안한다. 제안된 연동 방안은 Zigbee 기반 센서 네트워크의 주소 체계와 인터넷의 주소체계인 IP 기반 인터넷 주소 체계가 서로 통신할 수 있도록 주소를 연동하는 방안이며, Berkeley TinyOS와 mica motes,그리고 IP 프로토콜을 이용하여 제안된 주소 연동 방안을 구현하였다. 또한 실험을 통해 제안된 연동 방안을 검증하였다. As a promising technology that enables ubiquitous computing and will lead the information technology industries of the next generation, the new field of sensor networks is one of the most active research topics today. From now on, each node, the network formation, and even the sensor network itself will interact with the generic network and evolve dynamically according to environmental changes, in a process of continual creation and extinction. In this paper, we propose a address-Internetworking scheme for interactive networking between a sensor network and the Internet based on the TCP port-numbers. The proposed scheme enables internetworking between a sensor network address scheme based on Zigbee and the Internet address scheme based on the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). We implement the proposed address-Internetworking scheme using Berkeley TinyOS, Mica Motes, and IP. In addition we verify the proposed scheme by an interconnection experiment, which involves wireless sensor networks and the Internet, using IPv4/IPv6.
