목적: The colonization rate for GBS infection in pregnant women have been reported to vary from 4.8% up to 11.5% in Korea. These discrepancies might result from different sampling procedure and media among studied centers. Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2010) recommended a universal prenatal screening strategy to identify GBS carrier and intrapartum antimicrobial prophylaxis (IAP) with positive cultures. We aimed to analyze the prevalence of maternal GBS colonization and vertical transmission under a universal prenatal screening using selective culture media. 방법:We included 830 pregnant women who visited and delivered at Busan Paik Hospital between January 2015 and June 2016. The specimens for GBS culture were obtained from both the lower vagina and perianal area in women who were admitted for threatened preterm delivery or who visited at our clinic for antenatal care at 35-37 weeks of gestation. These swabs were then inoculated into Todd-Hewitt broth and CHROMagar StrepB agar. IAP were given to women with rectovaginal GBS-positive cultures under CDC guideline. 결과: Among the 830 cultured pregnant women, 94 (11.3%) were positive for GBS colonization. 22 (23.4%) were positive culture from lower vagina, 33 (35.1%) from perianal area and 39 (41.5%) from both. Maternal characteristics including age, delivery mode and time were not different between positive and negative GBS groups. GBS positive rate was also not differ between preterm and full-term delivery groups. Among 115 neonates who were born from GBS colonized women, 37 (32.2%) neonates had neonatal sepsis, however, GBS was not causative organism and there was no early onset GBS sepsis. 결론: With the universal prenatal screening using selective culture media, the GBS colonization rate of 11.3% was higher than that performed by previous studies in Korea. Therefore, it is necessary to screen for GBS colonization using selective culture media, and IAP for positive culture women or high risk women is obligatory.
NLRP3 Exacerbate NETosis-Associated Neuroinflammation in an LPS-Induced Inflamed Brain

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) exert a novel function of trapping pathogens. Released NETs can accumulate in inflamed tissues, be recognized by other immune cells for clearance, and lead to tissue toxicity. Therefore, the deleterious effect of NET is an etiological factor, causing several diseases directly or indirectly. NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) in neutrophils is pivotal in signaling the innate immune response and is associated with several NET-related diseases. Despite these observations, the role of NLRP3 in NET formation in neuroinflammation remains elusive. Therefore, we aimed to explore NET formation promoted by NLRP3 in an LPS-induced inflamed brain. Wild-type and NLRP3 knockout mice were used to investigate the role of NLRP3 in NET formation. Brain inflammation was systemically induced by administering LPS. In such an environment, the NET formation was evaluated based on the expression of its characteristic indicators. DNA leakage and NET formation were analyzed in both mice through Western blot, flow cytometry, and in vitro live cell imaging as well as two-photon imaging. Our data revealed that NLRP3 promotes DNA leakage and facilitates NET formation accompanied by neutrophil death. Moreover, NLRP3 is not involved in neutrophil infiltration but is predisposed to boost NET formation, which is accompanied by neutrophil death in the LPS-induced inflamed brain. Furthermore, either NLRP3 deficiency or neutrophil depletion diminished pro-inflammatory cytokine, IL-1β, and alleviated blood-brain barrier damage. Overall, the results suggest that NLRP3 exacerbates NETosis in vitro and in the inflamed brain, aggravating neuroinflammation. These findings provide a clue that NLRP3 would be a potential therapeutic target to alleviate neuroinflammation.

<P>The areal geometric effects of a ZnO charge-trap layer (CTL) on the device characteristics of a charge-trap memory thin-film transistor were investigated for embedded-memory circuit applications. While the device with a larger overlapped region between the CTL and active channel exhibited a larger memory window and faster program speed, in order to guarantee long-term memory retention even under higher drain bias conditions, the CTL size should be minimized to reduce the overlapped area. The resulting device behavior is a compromise between the modulations of the number of trap sites within the ZnO CTL and the electric field concentration caused by the configuration of the edge area in the overlapped region.</P>

본 연구의 조사지역인 갑천은 충청남도 금산군·논산시와 대전광역시를 북류하고 금강으로 흘러드는 도심하천이다. 광대한 갈대 군락과 초원, 버드나무 등 다양한 식생이 분포하며 크고 작은 자연 소택지, 늪, 웅덩이 등의 형태로 자연환경이 잘 보존되어 도시생태계의 주요 기능을 담당하고 있다. 본 연구에서 갑천 일대의 육상곤충류를 대상으로 4월 11~13일, 6월 11~12일, 8월 20~22일 조사를 수행하였다. 조사방법은 직접찾기와 쓸어잡기로, 총 9개 지점으로 나누어 군집 분석하였다. 조사 결과 공단구역인 Site3의 다양성지수가 0.16으로 매우 낮았으며 도심구역인 Site4와 Site7이 각각 다양성지수 2.92와 2.41로 타구역에 비해 낮았다. 반면 산림구역인 Site1, Site8 그리고 Site9는 모두 다양성지수가 3이상으로 높은 편에 속했다.
