        High-frequency in vitro plantlet regeneration in Lilium davidii var. unicolour Salisb, an important edible and medicinal plant, and confirmation of genetic fidelity of regeneration plantlets using ISSR markers

        Lilium davidii var. unicolour Salisb is an important edible and medicinal plant. In vitro plantlet regeneration in L. davidii var. unicolour Salisb and identification of genetic stability are the premises of large-scale cultivation, and also a way to meet the increasing global demand. The purpose of this study is to establish an efficient, rapid plant propagation process for L. davidii var. unicolour Salisb, and to define the genetic stability of its regenerants in vitro under optimised conditions. The effects of different concentrations of 6-benzyladenine (6-BA) and thidiazuron (TDZ) on shoot multiplication and growth of L. davidii var. unicolour Salisb were investigated individually, or in combination with α-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA), using Murashige and Skoog (MS) solid or liquid medium. Inter-sample sequence repeat markers were used to assess genetic fidelity among plantlets. The results were that we achieved efficient and reliable regeneration, using scales as explants for shoot induction. The highest mean number (16.8) of shoots was differentiated de novo from the lower portion of the outer scales. After 4 weeks of incubation, superior multiplication rates (9.8%), mean shoot number (3.38), and length (5.46 cm) were achieved using MS liquid medium supplemented with TDZ. Auxins, such as indole butyric acid (IBA) and NAA, were employed for in vitro root induction, and the maximum rooting rate (100%) was observed when samples were cultured on half-strength MS medium supplemented with NAA. In vitro rooted plantlets of L. davidii var. unicolour Salisb were accli- matised in a greenhouse and plants grew well with a 90% survival rate. Inter-sample sequence repeat markers were used to assess genetic fidelity among plantlets, the best ISSR primer UBC 808 had the highest number of reproducible bands and produced 15 distinct bands and all micropropagated plants and the mother plant could be grouped in a single cluster with a 94% similarity level, indicating a low level of genetic polymorphism in micropropagated plants. The developed protocol described herein is simple and reliable for large-scale production of L. davidii var. unicolour Salisb, which provides a good technical support for large-scale cultivation of L. davidii var. unicolour Salisb.

        Hybrid super-capacitor and battery energy storage combine the advantages of power-type energy storage element and energy storage components, to avoid the disadvantages of a single energy storage technology, which is one of the important development direction of the energy storage technology. For energy storage applying in high-power, high-capacity and strong volatility applications, the article analyzes the composition of the total cost of the objective function in the hybrid super-capacitor and battery energy storage system entire life cycle, with regard to two decision variables - the number of each energy storage element batch and the batch of energy storage element in the objective function, proposing calculation method of energy storage component number and batch based respectively on Ragone plots and the equivalent cycle life. The example proves the effectiveness of the proposed method.

        Water Evaporation-Induced Self-Assembly of Hierarchical CuO/MnO2 Composite Nanospheres and their Applications in Lithium-Ion Batteries

        In this paper, hierarchical CuO/MnO2 composite hollow nanospheres have been successfully fabricated by water evaporation-induced self-assembly through a redox transformation reaction between Cu2O nanospheres and KMnO4 solution at 120℃ for 6 h, followed by removing the residual Cu2O cores with ammonia hydroxide solution. The outstanding feature of this method is that the reaction system is in a dynamic environment due to the evaporation of the solvent water, which benefits the self-assembly of nanostructures to form hierarchical structures. Both Kirkendall effect and Ostwald ripening mechanism are suggested to be responsible for the formation of the hierarchical CuO/MnO2 nanocomposites according to the characterization results. The electrochemical properties of the products were studied, and the results show that the hierarchical CuO/MnO2 hollow nanospheres exhibit high capacity and good rate performance (a stable capacity of about 480 mAh g-1 after 80 cycles of variable charging rate), which is probably attributed to the hierarchical hollow nanostructures.

      • Ce<sup>3+</sup>/Tb<sup>3+</sup> activated GdF<sub>3</sub>, KGdF<sub>4</sub>, and CeF<sub>3</sub> submicro/nanocrystals: Synthesis, phase evolution, and optical properties

        <▼1><B>Abstract</B><P/></▼1><▼2><P>Based on a citric acid-assisted hydrothermal method, series of Ce<SUP>3+</SUP>/Tb<SUP>3+</SUP> activated fluorides have been synthesized. By controlling the amount of KNO3, the final products evolve from the Ce<SUP>3+</SUP>/Tb<SUP>3+</SUP> codoped orthorhombic phase GdF3 to the Ce<SUP>3+</SUP>/Tb<SUP>3+</SUP> codoped cubic phase KGdF4. The concentration of Ce<SUP>3+</SUP> has great effects on the crystalline phases and the morphologies of final products. The Ce<SUP>3+</SUP> concentration dependent samples illustrate the appearance of the hexagonal phase solid solution CeF3-GdF3-TbF3 in the final products. When the Ce<SUP>3+</SUP> concentration is 20 mol%, the sample Ce20 presents the hexagonal phase CeF3 but the diffraction peaks move to higher degree. The x-ray diffraction patterns suggest the phase evolution of final products, the field emission scanning electron microscopy images present the variation in morphology of samples, and the photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra as well as the luminescent dynamic curves illustrate the optical properties of samples.</P></▼2>

        Differential Expression of PPARγ, FASN, and ACADM Genes in Various Adipose Tissues and Longissimus dorsi Muscle from Yanbian Yellow Cattle and Yan Yellow Cattle

        The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation between cattle breeds and deposit of adipose tissues in different positions and the gene expressions of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma ($PPAR{\gamma}$), fatty acid synthase (FASN), and Acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (ACADM), which are associated with lipid metabolism and are valuable for understanding the physiology in fat depot and meat quality. Yanbian yellow cattle and Yan yellow cattle reared under the same conditions display different fat proportions in the carcass. To understand this difference, the expression of $PPAR{\gamma}$, FASN, and ACADM in different adipose tissues and longissimus dorsi muscle (LD) in these two breeds were analyzed using the Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction method (qRT-PCR). The result showed that $PPAR{\gamma}$ gene expression was significantly higher in adipose tissue than in LD in both breeds. $PPAR{\gamma}$ expression was also higher in abdominal fat, in perirenal fat than in the subcutaneous fat (p<0.05) in Yanbian yellow cattle, and was significantly higher in subcutaneous fat in Yan yellow cattle than that in Yanbian yellow cattle. On the other hand, FASN mRNA expression levels in subcutaneous fat and abdominal fat in Yan yellow cattle were significantly higher than that in Yanbian yellow cattle. Interestingly, ACADM gene shows greater fold changes in LD than in adipose tissues in Yan yellow cattle. Furthermore, the expressions of these three genes in lung, colon, kidney, liver and heart of Yanbian yellow cattle and Yan yellow cattle were also investigated. The results showed that the highest expression levels of $PPAR{\gamma}$ and FASN genes were detected in the lung in both breeds. The expression of ACADM gene in kidney and liver were higher than that in other organs in Yanbian yellow cattle, the comparison was not statistically significant in Yan yellow cattle.

        Efficacy and Safety of Anti-Tumor Necrosis Factor- Alpha Agents for Patients with Intestinal Behcet’s Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

        Purpose: Intestinal Behcet’s disease (BD) is a systemic autoimmune disease for which treatment options are limited. As a prospectivetherapeutic strategy for intestinal BD, anti-tumor necrosis factor-alpha (anti-TNF-α) agents have received increasing attention. In this study, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anti-TNF-αagents for patients with intestinal BD. Materials and Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases up to July 1, 2021 and articles that metthe eligibility criteria were further assessed. Pooled rates were synthesized by a randomized effects model using Stata software. Results: Eleven clinical trials covering 671 patients with intestinal BD were included. According to compositive data, the pooledrate for remission was 39% [95% confidence interval (CI) 26–52] in patients receiving anti-TNF-α agents. Intestinal symptomswere cured in 70% (95% CI 53–84) of the patients, and the rate for endoscopic healing was 65% (95% CI 52–78). Corticosteroid discontinuationwas achieved in 43% (95% CI 28–58) of the patients, and the dose reduction of corticosteroid was 20.43 mg (95% CI13.4–27.46). There were 239 adverse events and 80 serious adverse events during follow-up. Conclusion: Our study indicated that anti-TNF-α agents may serve as an effective treatment with acceptable safety for patientswith intestinal BD. However, more robust evidence from randomized controlled trials is urgently needed to assess the long-termefficacy and safety of anti-TNF-α agents for those patients.

        Cast Iron Smelting and Fining: An Iron Smelting Site of the Eastern Han Dynasty in Xuxiebian, Sichuan Province, China

        In this article, we introduce the excavation of an iron smelting site at Xuxiebian 許鞋匾, Pujiang 蒲江 County, Sichuan 四川 Province in the PRC. Two excavations were carried out in 2007 and 2011, and a total of four bowl-shaped furnaces, five pits, two trenches, and one posthole were excavated. The site is dated from the mid-late Eastern Han dynasty to the Jin dynasty (ca. AD 150-420) according to the local pottery assemblage. It is possible that the sole functions of the Xuxiebian site were the production of pig iron ingots and the conversion of pig iron to wrought iron. The iron ingots were likely transported to areas with stronger administrative control by the central government near the ancient city of Chengdu or even to the Central Plains, where they were then cast into different objects.

        Multifunctional, flexible and mechanically resilient porous polyurea/graphene composite film

        In this study, a porous polyurea/graphene platelet (GnP) composite film with high flexibility and multifunctionalitywas developed and investigated for strain sensing and energy storage applications. Morphology and mechanical properties were studied; tensile strength and Young’s modulus wereenhanced by 132% and 900%, respectively at 5 wt% GnPs. The polyurea/GnP film exhibited high sensitivityto various strains– namely, tension, compression, bending and twisting. In tensile strain, gauge factor was1.86 and 6.26 within strain ranges of 0–30% and 30–60%, respectively. Interestingly, the film showedpiezoresistive and capacitive-type strain sensor under compression load; a 33% increase in relative resistancewith response time of 108 millisecond; and 22% increase in relative capacitance with response timeof 92 millisecond when load of 5 kPa was applied. Furthermore, the strain sensor showed high durabilityand reliability over 20,000 cycles. The developed polyurea/GnP film showed a stable capacitive performanceover 20,000 charge–discharge cycles. This work provides important insights for the potential ofpolyurea/graphene films in multifunctional sensors and flexible energy storage applications.

        Primary Invasive Mucinous Adenocarcinoma of the Lung: Prognostic Value of CT Imaging Features Combined with Clinical Factors

        Objective: To investigate the association between CT imaging features and survival outcomes in patients with primary invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA). Materials and Methods: Preoperative CT image findings were consecutively evaluated in 317 patients with resected IMA from January 2011 to December 2015. The association between CT features and long-term survival were assessed by univariate analysis. The independent prognostic factors were identified by the multivariate Cox regression analyses. The survival comparison of IMA patients was investigated using the Kaplan-Meier method and propensity scores. Furthermore, the prognostic impact of CT features was assessed based on different imaging subtypes, and the results were adjusted using the Bonferroni method. Results: The median follow-up time was 52.8 months; the 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival rates of resected IMAs were 68.5% and 77.6%, respectively. The univariate analyses of all IMA patients demonstrated that 15 CT imaging features, in addition to the clinicopathologic characteristics, significantly correlated with the recurrence or death of IMA patients. The multivariable analysis revealed that five of them, including imaging subtype (p = 0.002), spiculation (p < 0.001), tumor density (p = 0.008), air bronchogram (p < 0.001), emphysema (p < 0.001), and location (p = 0.029) were independent prognostic factors. The subgroup analysis demonstrated that pneumonic-type IMA had a significantly worse prognosis than solitary-type IMA. Moreover, for solitary-type IMAs, the most independent CT imaging biomarkers were air bronchogram and emphysema with an adjusted p value less than 0.05; for pneumonic-type IMA, the tumors with mixed consolidation and ground-glass opacity were associated with a longer DFS (adjusted p = 0.012). Conclusion: CT imaging features characteristic of IMA may provide prognostic information and individual risk assessment in addition to the recognized clinical predictors.
