Multiple bilobar liver matastases (MBLM) are the main cause of low resectability in the colon cancer liver metastases. The authors experienced one case of initially non-resectable colon cancer liver metastases. He was curatively and safely treated with a two-stage hepatectomy using the new method of future remnant liver volume growing. A 54-year-old man was referred to our department with the sigmoid colon cancer combined with MBLM, which were checked in two small metastatic lesions in the left lobe and five large sized lesions in the right lobe in the computed tomogram (CT). A laparoscopic assisted anterior resection was primarily performed. We performed the 1^(st) stage hepatectomy 3 weeks after the colon resection. Intra-operative Ultrasonogram (US) found 9 small superficial metastatic lesions in the left lobe. All that lesions were completely removed by non-anatomical wedge resection. An occlusion ballon catheter was placed in the right portal vein through a small branch of the inferior mesenteric vein at that time. The future remnant liver volume was sufficiently increased 3 weeks after the 1^(st) hepatectomy. A right hepatectomy was safely performed 22 days after the 1^(st) hepatectomy. The patient received a regional chemotherapy (interleukin2 based immuno-chemotherapy through hepatic artery) for 4 months, then received 9 cycles of systemic chemotherapy (biweekly Oxaliplation, leucovorin, plus 5-fluorouracil) without any recurrence evidence.
A Semi-blind Digital Watermarking Scheme Based on the Triplet of Significant Wavelet Coefficients

We proposed a semi-blind digital image watermarking technique for copyright protection. The proposed algorithm embedded a binary sequence watermark into significant wavelet coefficients by using a quantization method. The main idea of the quantization method was to quantize a middle coefficient of the triplet of a significant wavelet coefficient according to the watermark’s value. Unlike an existing algorithm, which used a random location table to find a coefficient in which the watermark bit will be embedded: the proposed algorithm used quad-tree decomposition to find a significant wavelet coefficient for embedding. For watermark detection, an original host image was not required. Thanks to the usage of significant wavelet coefficients, the proposed algorithm improved the correlation value, up to 0.43, in comparison with the existing algorithm.

에러 피드백의 컨텍스트 기반 예측기법을 이용한 무손실 영상 압축에 관한 연구

In this paper, the wavelet transform based lossless image compression algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm transforms the input image using 9/7 ICFB and S+P filter, and eliminates the spacious correlation of the sub band coefficients, applying the context modeling predictive technique based on the multi-resolution structure and the feedback of the prediction error. The prediction context exploits the subordination and direction property of the different level subband in the vertical, horizontal, and diagonal subband coefficients. The simulation result of the high frequency images such as PEPPERS, BOAT, and AIRPLANE shows that the proposed algorithm efficiently predicts the edge area of each multi-resolution subband.
사분트리 알고리즘과 기하학적 웨이블렛을 이용한 손실 영상 압축

In this paper, the lossy image compression algorithm using the quad tree and the bandlets is proposed. The proposed algorithm transforms input images by the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and represents the geometrical structures of high frequency bands using the bandlets with a 8 block- size. In addition, the proposed algorithm searches the position information of the significant coefficients by using the quad tree algorithm and computes the magnitude and the sign information of the significant coefficients by using the Embedded Image Coding using Zerotrees of Wavelet Coefficients (EZW) algorithm. The compression result by using the quad tree algorithm improves the PSNR performance of high frequency images up to 1 dB, compared to that of JPEG-2000 algorithm and that of S+P algorithm. The PSNR performance by using DWT and bandlets improves up to 7.5dB, compared to that by using only DWT.

In this paper, a digital watermarking method using the WPT (Wavelet Packet Transform) is proposed. The proposed algorithm transforms the input image by using the WPT and inserts the watermark by using the quad-tree algorithm and Cox's algorithm. The experiments for evaluating the performances of the proposed algorithm is carried out by inserting a watermark in each wavelet packet transform step and by inserting a watermark into the lowest frequency domain (LL). As a simulation result, the performance of the insertion of the watermark into the 6 levels of WPT is better than that of other cases. In addition, about 30~60% of all watermarks are inserted into the LL band, the correlation value is improved though the PSNR performance decreases 1~2㏈.
무손실ㆍ손실 영상 압축을 위한 웨이브릿 기반 알고리즘에 관한 연구

A wavelet-based image compression system allowing both lossless and lossy image compression is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm consists of the two stages. The first stage uses the wavelet packet transform and the quad-tree coding scheme for the lossy compression. In the second stage, the residue image taken between the original image and the lossy reconstruction image is coded for the lossless image compression by using the integer wavelet transform and the context based predictive technique with feedback error. The proposed wavelet-based algorithm, allowing an optional lossless reconstruction of a given image, transmits progressively image materials and chooses an appropriate wavelet filter in each stage. The lossy compression reslut of the proposed algorithm improves up to the maximum 1 ㏈ PSNR performance of the high frequency image, compared to that of JPEG-2000 algorithm and that of S+P algorithm. In addition, the lossless compression result of the proposed algorithm improves up to the maximum 0.39 compression rates of the high frequency image, compared to that of the existing algorithm.

Data compression is very important for the storage and transmission of informations. EZW image compression algorithm has been widely used in real application due to its high compression performance. In the EZW algorithm, when a new significant coefficient is generated, its children are all encoded, although its all descendants may be insignificant, and thus its performance is declined. In this paper, we proposed an improved EZW algorithm using IS(Isolated Significant) symbol, which checks all descendants of significant coefficient and avoids encoding the children of each newly generated significant coefficient if it has no significant descendant.

Aims: Barcelona clinic liver cancer (BCLC) guidelines do not include specific recommendations for treating patients with terminal stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In general, liver transplantation (LT) is a viable treatment option for end-stage liver disease. We aimed to identify whether LT could be considered the treatment of choice for patients with BCLC D stage HCC within Milan criteria, in addition to the standard transplant indications. Methods: A retrospective cohort of 425 patients with Milan-in HCC who underwent LT primarily (n=179) or after chemoembolization as bridge therapy (n=287) was included in this study. Overall survival and recurrence-free survival after LT were compared between patients with Child-Pugh class A/B and class C. Patient- and tumor-related factors affecting post-LT outcomes were also examined in the pooled cohort. Radiological tumor parameters were assessed using the enhancement method in patients with prior chemoembolization. Results: Of the entire 425 patients, 323 (76.0%) and 102 (24.0%) had Child-Pugh A/B and C, respectively. During a median follow-up period of 5.6 years, post-LT overall and recurrence-free survival rates of Child-Pugh C patients were 85.1% and 82.2%, respectively at 5 years, which were comparable to those of Child-Pugh A/B patients (86.0% and 81.3%; Ps=NS). Similar survival trends were observed in both primary and secondary LT subsets. In Cox regression models, the unadjusted hazard ratio (HR) of Child-Pugh C was 1.21 (95% confidence interval, 0.72-2.05; P=NS) for overall survival; and 0.99 (0.60-1.62; P=NS) for recurrence-free survival. Bridging therapy also affected neither overall (1.17 [0.72-1.90]) nor recurrence-free survival (1.26 [0.81-1.96]; Ps=NS). Multivariate analyses showed that microvascular invasion, high alpha-fetoprotein, and pathology beyond Milan were independent predictors of both shorter overall and recurrence-free survivals (Ps<0.05). Conclusions: Our data indicate that LT should be considered a preferred treatment option in decompensated patients with BCLC D stage HCC who stayed within transplantable criteria.
