Association of Perceived Stress With Depression Among Vaccinated Healthcare Workers During the SARS-CoV-2 Variant Outbreak: The Mediating Role of Compassion Fatigue

        Cai Xue,Li Guohong,Feng Haixia,Wang Xiaoyan,He Lijun,Luo Dan,Xu Cuirong,Huang Yingzi,Qiu Shanhu 대한신경정신의학회 2023 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.20 No.4

Objective Depression was common during coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, while the association of perceived stress with depression among vaccinated healthcare workers has not been investigated. This study aimed to address this issue. Methods We included a total of 898 fully vaccinated healthcare workers during the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 Delta variant in Nanjing, 2021. Depression was ascertained by Patient Health Questionnaire-9, with a cut-off score of ≥5 indicative of mild-to-severe depression. Perceived stress, resilience, and compassion fatigue were assessed by Perceived Stress Scale-10, Resilience Scale-25, and Professional Quality of Life Scale version-5, respectively. Logistic regression analyses were used to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI), along with subgroup and mediation analyses. Results The prevalence of mild-to-severe depression was 41.1% in vaccinated healthcare workers. The odd of mild-to-severe depression was increased with higher perceived stress. Compared with vaccinated healthcare workers with the lowest tertile of perceived stress, those with the highest tertile had increased odds of mild-to-severe depression by 120% (OR 2.20, 95% CI 1.46 to 3.31) after multivariable-adjustment. However, perceived stress was not associated with mild-to-severe depression in vaccinated healthcare workers with strong resilience, but was in those with weak resilience (pinteraction=0.004). Further analysis showed that compassion fatigue mediated the relationship between perceived stress and mild-to-severe depression, with a mediating effect of 49.7%.Conclusion Perceived stress was related to an increased odd of mild-to-severe depression in vaccinated healthcare workers during COVID-19 pandemic, and this relationship might be explained by compassion fatigue.

Cantharidin Overcomes Imatinib Resistance by Depleting BCR-ABL in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Sun, Xiaoyan,Cai, Xueting,Yang, Jie,Chen, Jiao,Guo, Caixia,Cao, Peng Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology 2016 Molecules and cells Vol.39 No.12

Cantharidin (CTD) is an active compound isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine blister beetle and displayed anticancer properties against various types of cancer cells. However, little is known about its effect on human chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cells, including imatinib-resistant CML cells. The objective of this study was to investigate whether CTD could overcome imatinib resistance in imatinib-resistant CML cells and to explore the possible underlying mechanisms associated with the effect. Our results showed that CTD strongly inhibited the growth of both imatinib-sensitive and imatinib-resistant CML cells. CTD induced cell cycle arrest at mitotic phase and triggered DNA damage in CML cells. The ATM/ATR inhibitor CGK733 abrogated CTD-induced mitotic arrest but promoted the cytotoxic effects of CTD. In addition, we demonstrated that CTD downregulated the expression of the BCR-ABL protein and suppressed its downstream signal transduction. Real-time quantitative PCR revealed that CTD inhibited BCR-ABL at transcriptional level. Knockdown of BCR-ABL increased the cell-killing effects of CTD in K562 cells. These findings indicated that CTD overcomes imatinib resistance through depletion of BCR-ABL. Taken together, CTD is an important new candidate agent for CML therapy.

Acid-free epoxidation of soybean oil with hydrogen peroxide to epoxidized soybean oil over titanium silicalite-1 zeolite supported cadmium catalysts

        Lei Cai,Chao CHEN,Wenjun Wang,Xiu Gao,Xiaoyan Kuang,Yan Jiang,Liang Li,Guoqiang Wu 한국공업화학회 2020 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.91 No.-

Titanium silicalite-1 (TS-1) zeolite was successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method in the presenceof the tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) template, and a series of TS-1 supported cadmium withdifferent Cd loading (xCd/TS-1) catalysts were carefully prepared to produce epoxidized soybean oil(ESO) through the acid-free catalytic epoxidation of soybean oil (SO) with H2O2. These catalysts were fullycharacterized using various modern techniques and further evaluated systematically in this epoxidationreaction to understand the relationship between catalytic activity and structure of active components. The results show that the highly dispersed Cd species are introduced on the TS-1 support withoutaffecting the coordination environment of tetrahedral Ti (framework Ti). Furthermore, the Cd species arecoordinated with tetrahedral Ti species via O atom resulting in the weakness of the Ti–O bonds and facileattack of the Ti–O bonds by alcohol and H2O2, which can easily form thefive-membered intermediate andpromote the SO epoxidation process. Furthermore, the deactivation and regeneration behaviors of 2%Cd/TS-1 catalyst in SO epoxidation were also investigated, which reveal that the catalyst deactivation of cokedeposition is due to the strong adsorption of the catalysts and SO molecules. But the spent 2%Cd/TS-1 canbe completely regenerated by calcination method.

Identification and Validation of Potential Conserved microRNAs and Their Targets in Peach (Prunus persica)

        Zhihong Gao,Xiaoyan Luo,Ting Shi,Bin Cai,Zhen Zhang,Zongming Cheng,Weibing Zhuang 한국분자세포생물학회 2012 Molecules and cells Vol.34 No.3

MicroRNAs are a class of small, endogenous, non-coding RNA molecules that negatively regulate gene expression at the transcriptional or the post-transcriptional level. Although a large number of miRNAs have been identified in many plant species, especially from model plants and crops, they remain largely unknown in peach. In this study, 110 potential miRNAs belonging to 37 families were identified using computational methods. A total of 43 potential targets were found for 21 families based on near-perfect or perfect complementarity between the plant miRNA and the target sequences. A majority of the targets were transcription factors which play important roles in peach development. qRT-PCR analysis of RNA samples prepared from different peach tissues for 25 miRNA families revealed that miRNAs were differentially expressed in different tissues. Furthermore, two target genes were experimentally verified by detection of the miRNA-mediated mRNA cleavage sites in peach using RNA ligase-mediated 5’ rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RLM-RACE). Finally, we studied the expression pattern of the two target genes in three different tissues of peach to further understand the mechanism of the interaction between miRNAs and their target genes.

An enhanced multipoint optimal minimum entropy deconvolution approach for bearing fault detection of spur gearbox

Yuanbo Xu,Zongyan Cai,Xiaoyan Cai,Kai Ding 대한기계학회 2019 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.33 No.6

Previous research has shown that minimum entropy deconvolution (MED) is an effective technique for detecting impulse-like signals, such as the bearing fault and gear fault signals. However, some problems still exist in this technique. With the aim of overcoming these limitations, in this paper, an enhanced MED called multipoint optimal minimum entropy deconvolution adjusted (MOMEDA) is proposed. MOMEDA can succeed in detecting multiple impulses. Unfortunately, according to some simulations and real tests in this work, the results of applying this technique to the fault signals directly were grudgingly acceptable but not very satisfactory, especially under a harsh working condition. This means that MOMEDA is a little sensitive to intensive background noise and vibration interference. To overcome this drawback, a novel mode decomposition method, named time-varying filtering for empirical mode decomposition (TVFEMD), is applied to adaptively eliminate background noise and vibration interference prior to using MOMEDA. According to this proposed method, the weak bearing fault features can be identified clearly. The proposed approach is utilized in bearing fault detection of a spur gearbox and the results show its superiority and effectiveness.

Reinforcement of Waterborne Polyurethane Films with Poly(acrylic acid)-Modified Palygorskite Fibers

        Yu Mao,Lingli Ni,Changyou Yang,Peng Cai,Weigang Du,Xiaoyan Gao 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.9

Palygorskite (PAL) is a natural fibrous clay mineral which attracted tremendous attention as reinforcing agent topolymers. In this paper, a facile and environmental friendly modification process of PAL by poly acrylic acid (PAA) via insitupolymerization in PAL/water gel has been reported. The effects of PAA modified PAL (PAA-PAL) on the mechanical andthermal properties of waterborne polyurethane (WPU) nanocomposites have been investigated. Scanning electronmicroscopy (SEM) demonstrated that the dispersion of PAL has improved dramatically after PAA modification. Tensile testsshowed that PAA-PAL has a significant reinforcement effect on WPU matrix. Addition of 10 wt% PAA-PAL, the tensilestrength and the Young’s modulus of WPU composites increased 235 % and 388 %, respectively. Furthermore, the thermalstability of WPU also has been distinctly improved via addition of PAA-PAL.

Long noncoding RNA: multiple players in gene expression

        ( Xiaochang Chen ),( Yunmei Sun ),( Rui Cai ),( Guoqiang Wang ),( Xiaoyan Shu ),( Weijun Pang ) 생화학분자생물학회(구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2018 BMB Reports Vol.51 No.6

Previously considered as a component of transcriptional noise, long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) were neglected as a therapeutic target, however, recently increasing evidence has shown that lncRNAs can participate in numerous biological processes involved in genetic regulation including epigenetic, transcriptional, and post-transcriptional regulation. In this review, we discuss the fundamental functions of lncRNAs at different regulatory levels and their roles in metabolic balance. Typical examples are introduced to illustrate their diverse molecular mechanisms. The comprehensive investigation and identification of key lncRNAs will not only contribute to insights into diseases, such as breast cancer and type II diabetes, but also provide promising therapeutic targets for related diseases. Characterization of the first tuber mustard calmodulin-like gene, BjAAR1, and its functions in responses to abiotic stress and abscisic acid in Arabidopsis

        Liuxin Xiang,Yuxian Xia,Ying-Fan Cai,Jijun Liu,Xiaohong He,Quan Sun,Xiaoyan Wang,Yuyin Fu,Yonghong Fan,Daiwen Dong,Guanfan Zhou,Jinjuan Shen,Yihua Liu 한국식물학회 2013 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.56 No.3

The first tuber mustard calmodulin-like (CML) gene BjAAR1 (Brassica juncea var. tumida Tsen et Lee Abiotic stress and Abscisic acid (ABA) Responsive gene 1) was cloned and characterized. The protein encoded by BjAAR1 contains four predicted Ca2+ binding sites (EF-hand motif) and its recombinant protein can bind Ca2+ in vitro. qRT-PCR showed that the expression level of BjAAR1 was rather high in non-swollen stem of tuber mustard and largely reduced in swollen stem. Expression of BjAAR1 enhanced ABA- and stress-induced gene expression in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). Transgenic plants also exhibited hypersensitivity to NaCl, mannitol, and ABA during the seed germination and post-germination stages. ABA biosynthesis inhibitor, norflurazon (NF), rescued hypersensitivity phenotype of transgenic plants to NaCl and mannitol, indicating that BjAAR1 functions in multiple abiotic stresses response through ABA-dependent process.

Heart Failure Is Associated with Increased Risk of Long-Term Venous Thromboembolism

        Tianyu Xu,Yuli Huang,Zuheng Liu,Yujia Bai,Zhuang Ma,Xiaoyan Cai,Yuhui Zhang,Jian Zhang 대한심장학회 2021 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.51 No.9

Background and Objectives: Venous thromboembolism (VTE), consisting of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), is highly prevalent in in-hospital HF patients and contributes to worse prognoses. However, the risk of VTE in out-patients with HF in long-term period is controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the associations between HF and the risk of VTE in a long-term follow-up duration. Methods: We searched for studies investigating the risk of VTE, PE, and DVT in patients with HF before April 15, 2020, in PubMed, MEDLINE, and Embase databases. Cohort studies and post hoc analysis of RCTs were eligible for inclusion if they reported relative risk of VTE, DVT or PE in patients with HF in more than 3-month follow-up period. Results: We identified 31 studies that enrolled over 530,641 HF patients. Overall, patients with HF were associated with an increased risk of VTE (risk ratio [RR]=1.57, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.34–1.84) and PE (RR=2.00, 95% CI=1.38–2.89). However, the risk of DVT was not significantly increased in HF patients (RR=1.33, 95% CI=0.67–2.63). Subgroup analysis showed that patients with chronic HF (RR=1.54, 95% CI=1.32–1.80) had a higher risk of VTE than those with acute HF (RR=0.95, 95% CI=0.68–1.32). Conclusions: In conclusion, HF was an independent risk for VTE and PE but not DVT in a long-term follow-up period. Patients with chronic HF were prone to suffer from VTE than acute HF.

Alfalfa xenomiR-162 targets G protein subunit gamma 11 to regulate milk protein synthesis in bovine mammary epithelial cells

        Meng Guizhi,Duan Hongjuan,Jia Jingying,Liu Baobao,Ma Yun,Cai Xiaoyan 아세아·태평양축산학회 2024 Animal Bioscience Vol.37 No.3

Objective: It was shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in milk protein synthesis. However, the post-transcriptional regulation of casein expression by exogenous miRNA (xeno-miRNAs) in ruminants remains unclear. This study explores the regulatory roles of alfalfa xeno-miR162 on casein synthesis in bovine mammary epithelial cells (bMECs). Methods: The effects of alfalfa xenomiR-162 and G protein subunit gamma 11 (GNG11) on proliferation and milk protein metabolism of bMECs were detected by 5-Ethynyl-2′- Deoxyuridine (EdU) staining, flow cytometry, cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and Western blot. Dual-luciferase reporter assay was used to verify the targeting relationship between GNG11 and xenomiR-162. Results: Results showed that over-expression of xenomiR-162 inhibited cell proliferation but promoted apoptosis, which also up-regulated the expression of several casein coding genes, including CSN1S1, CSN1S2, and CSN3, while decreasing the expression of CSN2. Furthermore, the targeting relationship between GNG11 and xenomiR-162 was determined, and it was confirmed that GNG11 silencing also inhibited cell proliferation but promoted apoptosis and reduced the expression of casein coding genes and genes related to the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway. Conclusion: Alfalfa xenomiR-162 appears to regulate bMECs proliferation and milk protein synthesis via GNG11 in the mTOR pathway, suggesting that this xeno-miRNA could be harnessed to modulate CSN3 expression in dairy cows, and increase κ-casein contents in milk.
