Ampelopsis Radix is in use in oriental medicine. Oriental medical doctors use Ampelopsis Radix for clearing away heat and eliminating toxin(淸熱解毒), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms or side effects, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Ampelopsis Radix. The results were summarized as follows: 1. Side effects after taking Ampelopsis Radix mainly are skin rubefaction, itching, dizziness, nausea, and feeling heavy, etc. 2. In order to prevent against poisoning of Ampelopsis Radix, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.

In this study, we investigated the performance of phytoremediation system treating wastewater containing high level of nutrients. Use of Acorus gramineus showed high removal efficiency for nitrogen (N) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) but low removal efficiency for phosphorus (P). The Overall N, P and COD removals efficiencies were 83.0-90.8.%, 12.8-40.6% and 72.6%, respectively. During the 9day operation of the system, The pH of effluent has significantly decreased comparing with raw water The mean pH of influent and effluent water was 6.0 and 7.0, respectively.

KIER has been running a demonstration project for 10kWe solar thermal power generation. the project is to build and operate the first solar thermal power generation system in Korea. For concentrating solar thermal energy 40m² dish type concentrator was adapted and a stirling engine is going to be integrated to the system for power production. At the moment building the dish concentrator including mirror and sun tracking system was completed and it's performance are being closely evaluated. This paper will introduce some detailed designs and construction procedures which we have experienced so far.

Granati Pericarpium is in use in Korean medicine. The Korean medical doctors use Granati Pericarpium for stopping diarrhea(止瀉) and destroying parasites and relieving itching(殺蟲止痒), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Granati Pericarpium. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The main ingredients of poisoning are alkaloids, etc. The ingredients of poisoning from Granati Pericarpium mainly cause stimulating symptoms on digestive system, cardiovascular system, nervous system and part of eyes, etc. 2. The representative methods of poisoning treatment in western medicine are washing out the stomach, promotion of vomiting, washing out the stomach, supplies of grape sugar and symptomatic treatment, etc. 3. The representative methods of poisoning treatment in Korean medicine take advantage of herbs, such as Glycyrrhizae Radix(甘草), etc. And Korean medical doctors should meet symptoms as patients call for attention. 4. In order to prevent against poisoning of Granati Pericarpium, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.

Industry related project for a year to develope commercial model of 10 ㎾ dish-Stirling solar thermal power system by modifying possessed one was taken as the objectives. During this project, commercial solar tracking system, control and monitoring system, high durability reflector, and long term operation were performed. The commercial solar tracking system was tested for 4 months to investigate the degree of precision and adapted from October to the control system for an actual operation. Sun tracking accuracy of 3 mrad using modified control system adapted to the Dish-Stirling system was satisfied during the experimental period. The monitoring system displays temperature of receiver's rear plate, cooling water, oil, and etc., engine pressure, electric generation amounts, and generator RPM and weather data of Direct Normal Irradiation, Horizontal Global Insolation, wind speed & direction, and temperature. During 4 months from September to December, operating results had been stored as a excel file automatically. Experimental results of December 16th was selected and shown as a representative data. When DNI increased higher than 800 W/㎡, the solar-to-electric efficiency reached to about 20%. When DNI became 850 W/㎡, the 7 ㎾ power was generated. The solar to electricity efficiency can be reached to 19% under the DNI of 700 W/㎡ and increased to 20% when the constant DNI is over 900 W/㎡ As a results, the power generation trend as a function of DNI can be expressed a liner curve.

Solar thermal power generation allows additional benefits of cheap thermal storage and easy hybridization with other fossil fuel-driven power generation. KIER has been performing the project for solar thermal chemical reaction hybrid power generation. The project is to build and operate the first solar thermal chemical reaction hybrid power generation system in Korea. For concentrating solar thermal energy m² dish type concentrator was adapted and a heliostat is installed for reflecting horizontal insolation to the dish concentrator. At the moment building the dish concentrator including mirror and heliostat with sun tracking system was completed and it's performance are being closely evaluated. This paper will introduce some detailed designs and construction procedures which we have experienced so far.

Objective of the research is to demonstrate solar thermal space and ground heating system which is integrated to a greenhouse culture facility for reducing heating cost, increasing the value of product by environment control, and developing advanced culture technology by deploying solar thermal system. Field test for the demonstration was carried out in horticulture complex in Jeju Island. Medium scale solar hot water system was installed in a ground heating culture facility. Reliability and economic aspect of the system which was operated complementary with thermal storage and solar hot water generation were analyzed by investigating collector efficiency, operation performance, and control features. Short term day test on element performance and Long term test of the whole system were carried out. Optimum operating condition and its characteristics were closely investigated by changing the control condition based on the temperature difference which is the most important operating parameter. For establishing more reliable and optimal design data regarding system scale and operation condition, continuous operation and monitoring on the system need to be further carried out. However, it is expected that, in high-insolation areas where large-scale ground storage is adaptable, solar system demonstrated in the research could be economically competitive and promisingly disseminate over various application areas.
