Objectives : Analyses on DNA chips have provided good outcomes in diagnosing certain diseases and in figuring out functions of specific genes. As this technology is being applied in other areas, the study have tried genetic approach in Sasang constitution in this respect. Methods : An algorithm utilizing a method of stepwise classification analysis first selected 16,383 genes which represented each constitution. Then a linear discriminant analysis making those genes into a mathematical function identified specific genes which were able to classify the Sasang constitution best. Results : Five subjects from each of Taeumin, Soeumin, and Soyangin groups consisted a total sample size of 15. Using the degree of manifestation of their DNA chips, 12 genes were found to take account or represent each of the 3 constitutions. Distinctive genes such as AK024382, AF090895, AL050124, and NM_000303 were related to Taeumin ; NM_004958, X691 10, NM_000542, NMJ)03057, and AK022600 were represented in Soeumin, while AK023559, AK025190, and NMJ)13254 were for Soyangin. Conclusions : The study contributed to provide statistical criteria to classify constitutions by using the loadings on each gene, which allowed the possibility of classification of constitution by its gene manifestation.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to compare clinical effectiveness of Chuna therapy and Pharmacopuncture combination treatment and Pharmacopuncture treatment on the patients with neck pain and low back pain caused by traffic accidents. Methods : A total of 20 hospitalized patients with neck pain and low back pain caused by traffic accidents from June 2019 to December 2019 were included in this study. These patients were divided into to groups, CP group and P group, of 10 patients each. CP group was treated with both Chuna therapy and Pharmacopuncture, and P group was treated with Pharmacopuncture but not Chuna therapy. Visual Analog Scale(VAS), Neck Disability Index(NDI), and Patient's Global Impression of Change(PGIC) were used for the evaluation of neck pain, and VAS, Oswestry Disability Index(ODI), PGIC were used for the evaluation of low back pain. Results : In neck pain, VAS and NDI scores were significantly decreased after treatment in both CP group and P group. There was no significant difference in VAS, NDI, PGIC scores before and after treatment between the two groups. In low back pain, both the VAS and ODI scores decreased significantly after treatment in CP group. But in P group, only the VAS score decreased significantly after treatment, and the ODI score did not. CP group has significantly lower ODI values compared to the P group after treatment. There was no significant difference in PGIC between groups. Conclusion : According to the results of this study, it was suggested that both Chuna therapy and Pharmacopuncture combination treatment and Pharmacopuncutre treatment are effective for pain relief and functional recovery in case of neck pain. In case of low back pain, it was suggested that Chuna and Pharmacopuncture combination treatment is effective for both pain relief and functional recovery, and Pharmacopuncture treatment is effective in pain relief.
