        An Emerging Garden Industry in the UK in response to the Economic Crisis - Focusing on the History of the Grow Your Own(GYO) Movement -

        The UK’s garden industry, which has characterized the country as a green and pleasant land, is one of Britain’s representative leisure industries. The sector had been growing steadily, supported by consumers’ constant spending and the increased rate of owner-occupation. However, as the British faced the global financial crisis in late 2008, which was the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s, they started to reduce spending money on household items, especially on leisure activities. Amongst those, they tightened their purses on garden-related spending by 10% compared with the year before the world economy collapsed. This economic environment threw the garden industry into turmoil. As an increase in physical and mental stresses caused by the unpredictable and pessimistic economic environment led to a decline in the British standard of living, the British Government, supported by members of the Royal family , revived `a movement encouraging people to take up gardening for a better life. The ‘Grow Your Own’ campaign, a gardening movement can be traced back to the ‘Victory Garden’, which supplied the public with food planted at private residences during World Wars I and II, to help overcome the exigencies of wartime. The revival of the gardening movement launched in 2009 was, however, aimed at recovering the British quality of life by boosting production of food in people’s own gardens to help Britons not only to lighten the burdens on their households, but to provide health care, improve living conditions, and help regenerate local communities. In tandem with the movement at national level, people’s constant interest in and demand for participation in gardening has brought about change in the depressed traditional UK garden industry. With the rapid and tailored responses of the industry to evolving consumer demand during the economic crisis, together with the new phase of productive gardening movement from Todmorden, the garden industry in the UK now stands at a new turning point.

        A Values of Wonlim as the World Heritage Cultural Landscape - Focusing on Yun Seon-Do's Garden on Bogildo Island, Scenic Site No.34. -

        Yun Seon-Do's Garden on Bogildo Island (甫吉島 尹善道 園林, Scenic Site No.34) is Korea's representative historic garden where the harmony of religion, art, and culture with the natural setting is evident. With the thorough case study of Yun Seon-Do's Garden on Bogildo Island, the main goal of this paper is to examine the legitimacy and scope of Korean traditional Wonlim, or landscape garden’s inscription as a World Heritage, with its ‘Cultural Landscape' identity and value as a ’Clearly Defined Landscape’. For these, the study re-valued Yun Seon-Do's Garden on Bogildo Island in terms of the notion of the World Heritage Cultural Landscape, particularly with technical terms of ①the ten selection criteria, ②the notion of integrity and ③the test of authenticity and ④protection and management system, which are required to meet OUV, and revealed how designated traditional gardens under the scenic site policy could be adopted effectively in the inscription process of World Heritage Cultural Landscape. Yun Seon-Do's Garden on Bogildo Island should meet the World Heritage criteria in order to be recognized for its outstanding universal value. Yun Seon-Do's Garden on Bogildo Island can be defined as a 'clearly defined landscape' among the cultural landscape types. Of the 10 World Heritage OUV selection criteria, (ii), (iv), (v) and (vi) can be applied to the garden. It should also display authenticity in its materials and techniques, and all elements (integrity) that can show the garden’s value. In addition, a comparative assessment with a similar garden heritage should be conducted and a protection and management plan should be implemented to systematically protect the heritage. It needs to be promoted for inscription through a comprehensive linkage with other heritage sites related to the garden.

        A Review of Academic Discourses of Cultural Landscape - for the Extension and Application to the Landscape Heritage Study and Policy -

        Cultural landscape, which was mainly referred in art, philosophy, and geography, has recently become an important terminology in heritage theory and practice as well as related research and policy. In particular, as the concept of heritage value was expanded to place-based ‘living heritage’, and UNESCO applied cultural landscape to deal with the everyday realm of human beings in 1992, the discussion of cultural landscape surged rapidly. As cultural landscape research, which began to be discussed in the West in the 19th century, was adopted as a theory to expand the scope of spatial planning and heritage field, cultural landscape is no longer semantic term, but a specific and practical policy term. However, compared to the recent growing interest in cultural landscapes in Korea, academic discourses on cultural landscapes have rarely been mentioned in related studies or even efforts to enlist valuable sites as World Heritage Cultural Landscape. This paper, therefore, reviewed the origin, evolutionary change, and current use of cultural landscape as an academic term by examining interdisciplinary academic discussions of cultural landscape centered on cultural geography in the Western world over the past 100 years. As the study of cultural landscape began to be widely conducted by geographer, Carl O. Sauer, discourse on cultural landscape has expanded to three academic perspectives: ‘landscape as form, landscape as symbol, and landscape as place.’ The theoretical foundation of the cultural landscape, the ‘combined works of man and nature’, which have revealed and sustained the great diversity of the interaction between human and their environment, accommodates various interpretation of the landscape from diverse cultural perspectives, and has been a platform of communication and convergence with various fields. In this way, by reviewing the cultural landscape discourse as an academic term, this paper is expected to provide a theoretical basis for domestic cultural landscape research, and furthermore, to serve as a basis for expanding the concept of landscape heritage and establishing related policies.

      • 관상식물 삽목발근에 있어서 NAA, IBA 및 Ethychlozate의 발근촉진효과와 그 생리학적연구

        The present studies were undertaken to elucidate the influence of auxins, auxin-like substance-ethychlozate ("Figaron"),and pH and sort of rooting media on rooted propagation of certainornamental woody plant cuttings, and to see possible changes in internal compositions characterizing after root-promoting treatment as the cutting stage proceeded. The experimental check-up srevealed and summarized as seen in the following;I. Effect of three different auxin treatments on rooting cuttings: 1) Promotive influence of auxin varied according to different concentration levels, hours of dipping treatment of the auxins, and kind of plants. The greatest effect was obtained for Forsythia ksreana with NAA and IBA, for Ligustrurn obtusifolium var. variegatum with NAA and ethychlozate, for Hydrangea macrophylla, Magnolia kobus, and Magnolia liliflora with NAA, lBA and ethychlozate also. The most effective level of the promotive agents was found 200mg/l for NAA, 1000mg/l for IBA, and 200mg/l for ethychlozate. For Weigela florida and Gardenia jasminoides, range of the most effective level was shown relatively wide spread. 2) NAA was more effective at its optimal level of the rooting agent than ethychiozate for Weigela florida, Viburnum awabuki, Forsythia koreana, Acer palmatum 'Nomura', Bouga invillea glabra, Elaeagnus umbellata, Prunus tomentosa, Ligustrum obtusifolium, Pyracantha coccinea, Cestrum noctu rnum, Hydrangea macrophylla, Codiaeum variegatum, Rhododen dron lateritium, and Ilex crenata var. macrophylla, and yet ethychlozate was found either as equally as effective or more so than NAA for Zebrina pendula, Hibiscus syriacus, Fatshedera lizei, Schefflera arboricola, Campsis grandiflo ra, Ixora chinensis, Euonymus japonica, and Magnolia liliflora. On the contrary, no the auxin effect was noted with Lagerstroemia indica, Trachelospermum asiaticum, and Syringa vulgaris. This probably indicates that these species are genetically different for the auxin response.II. Effect of different pH and sorts of cutting media on rooting cuttings: 1) Bougainvillea showed best in rooting for the number and dry weight at pH 6.5, more with ethychlozate than NAA, while Ligustrum did at pH 5.0 more with NAA than ethychlozate. pH 4.0 medium resulted in the best rooting for Rhododendron with NAA, more than ethychlozate. 2) Use of cutting medium with peat: perlite: vermiculite = 1:1:1 showed to give the greatest rooting percent and dry weight, apart from considering the number of roots. This apparently meant the fact that cutting medium has more to do with root growth than root differentiation. Rhododendron yet showed results with cutting media that use of peat: perlite = 2:1 mixed is more effective on rooting than using peat alone.III. Effect of auxinic treatments on rooting cuttings and change in some cutting compositions: 1) Under the climatic conditions of July having temperature $26.3\pm$$2.4^{\circ}C$for cutting bed, new roots of Magnolia started to show up generally 20 days after the cutting was made, whereas Cestrum did much earlier than that, namely 14 days after. 2) Although total carbohydrate content of Magnolia cuttings showed no marked change without auxin treatment, it did so with the treatment, especially 30 days after the start of cutting. Cestrum cuttings demonstrated a gradual in crease in total carbohydrate content as rooting took place, and the content became reduced more with auxin than with out, just about when rooting proceeded to 14 days after the start of cutting. 3) Magnolia generally showed an increase in total nitrogen content as rooting proceeded more, and Cestrum showed a decrease in total nitrogen of cuttings. The auxin treatment exhibited no pertinent relation with change in plant nitro gen when rooting is promoted with auxin treatment. 4) An abrupt drop of total sugar and reducing sugar was noticed as Magnolia rooting started, and this reduction was parti cularly outstanding with auxin treatment.         특허기반 창업의 고용창출 효과: 자금조달, 제품 판매증가율, R&D투자의 매개효과 중심으로

        Today, job creation is one of the important challenges that South Korea needs to address. This study analyzes the effectiveness of intellectual property-based startups (i.e. IP based startups) on job creation. Based on the survey data of a total of 353 startups and prospective startups nationwide in 2018, this study analyzes how IP based startu psenhance employment performance. To understand the mechanism of employment en hancement in more detail, we also analyze the mediating effect of financing, product sales increase rate and R&D investment on the relationship of IP based startup and employment performance. The result of this study shows that the direct effects of IP based startups have a positive relationship with employment performance. This study also indicates that financing, product sales increase rate and R&D investment played a significant role as mediators, indirectly increasing the impact of IP based startups on employment performance. The study provide the evidence that promoting intellectual property-based startups can be the useful solutions for enhancing the employment creation in South Korea. 오늘날 고용창출은 대한민국에게 주어진 핵심과제 중 하나다. 정부가 다양한 고용 정책을 추진하고 있지만, 고용문제를 해결하는 게 쉽지 않은 상황이다. 이 연구는 고용창출에 대한 효과적인 정책적 수단으로서 지식재산기반창업(이하 IP창업)의 효과에 대해 분석한다. 2018 년 전국 창업자 및 예비창업자 353명을 대상으로 실시한 설문조사 데이터를 토대로, 일반 창업에 비해 IP창업이 갖는 고용창출 효과를 분석한다. IP창업이 고용창출을 일으키게 하는 세부적인 메커니즘을 이해하기 위해 자금조달, 제품판매증가율 및 R&D투자 등 IP창업이 만들어내는 핵심 가치들을 매개변수로 설정, IP창업에서 고용성과가 창출되는 구체적 과정 을 분석한다. 이 연구의 분석결과 고용성과에 대한 IP창업의 직접효과는 긍정적으로 나타났 으며, 자금조달, 제품판매증가율, R&D투자가 매개 역할을 하여 IP창업이 고용성과에 미치 는 영향을 간접적으로 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 지식재산에 기반한 창업을 증진시키는 것이 현재 대한민국이 직면한 고용창출 문제를 해결하는 효과적인 방법이 될 수 있음을 보여준다. 정부 및 지방자치에서 IP창업에 대한 인식을 증진시키고 장려하는 근거자료로 서 본 연구결과를 활용할 수 있을 것이다.

        기하적(幾何的) 계획법(計劃法)에 의한 강재(鋼材)트러스구조물(構造物)의 최적설계(最適設計)에 관한 연구(?究)

        본연구(本硏究)에서는 OR이나 응용수학분야(應用數學分野)에서 개발(開發)된 기하적(幾何的) 계획법(計劃法)을 탄성이론(彈性理論)에 의(依)한 트러스구조물(構造物)의 최적화(最適化)에 도입(導入)하여 최적화(最適化) 알고리즘으로 적용(適用)하였다. 최적화(最適化) 문제형성(問題形成)에서 목적함수(目的函數)는 중량함수(重量函數), 제약조건식(制約條件式)으로는 축응력(軸應力), 좌굴응력(挫屈應力), 변위(變位), 설계변수(設計變數) 한계제약조건식(限界制約條件式)을 취하였다. 트러스구조물(構造物)의 최적설계(最適設計)에 이 알고리즘을 적용(適用)할 수 있는지의 적용가능성(適用可能性)과 그 효율성(?率性)을 검토(檢討)하기 위하여 절점수(節點數), 부재수(部材數), 극하조건수(戟荷條件數), 설계변수(設計變數)의 초기치(初期値)를 달리한 4종류(種類)의 트러스구조물(構造物)의 최적설계(最適設計)를 실시(實施)하고 그 결과(結果)를 분석(分析)하였다. 연구결과(硏究結果) 최적설계과정(最適設計過程)의 반복회수(反復回數)를 중심(中心)으로 분석(分析)할 때 본연구(本硏究)의 알고리즘은 1~7회(回) 반복과정(反復過程)만으로 Oscillation현상(現像)없이 안정성(安定性)있게 최적해(最適解)에 수감(收?)하고 있어 본연구(本硏究)의 방법(方法)도 반복회수(反復回數)만을 비교(比較)할 경우 효율적이라는 결론(結論)을 얻었다. This paper applies an optimization algorithm for the elastic truss structures. The acceleration technique utilized in this study is the geometric programming method developed by the Operation Research or the applied methematics. The applicability and the efficiency of the algorithm applied in this study are tested for four different trusses. Test results show that the optimum solutions are obtained after only one or seven iterations which is very small compared with other techniques and no oscillation is needed for the convergency. Test rusults also show that the Geometric Programming Method is also effective algorithm for the convergency of the Optimum Solution in case of only being compared with the number of iteration.
