        시멘트제품 중 중금속 유해성평가

        There are some problems of lacking the information on the safety of cement products and for determining harmfulness due to differences in the concentrations of heavy metals according to organizations. Thus, the harmfulness of heavy metals in cement products has been monitored by one time per month since August 2008 and the results have also been noticed for every month. In this study, the concentrations of seven different heavy metals (Cr(Ⅵ), T-Cr, Cd, Cu, Pb, As, and Hg) in cement products collected from 11 factories of 9 manufacturers are verified for every month and changes in the concentrations are also compared with the cement products of Japan, Germany, USA, and China. The company, HO, in domestic companies represents the highest values in four items and AJ shows the next high values. Thus, regarding these two manufacturers, it is necessary to take an effort for reducing the concentrations of five heavy metals through considering the major and alternative raw materials for producing their cement products. the chrome conversion rates in domestic cement products are about 36.4 % and that exhibits higher rates about 16.0 % and 8.3 %, 2.3 and 4.3 times, than that of Japan and USA, respectively.

        실험실 규모의 분해조에서 소와 돼지 사체의 분해특성 비교

        In 2010, amidst nationwide foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak and avian flu (AI), burial sites were urgently createdfor the disposal of animal carcasses. Some of the burial sites didn't satisfy the carcass burial standard (e.g. too manycarcasses were buried in one site, or size or location were not suitable), causing secondary environmental pollutionincluding collapse of burial sites, contamination of ground water, soil and adjacent streams, and malodor. In this regard,there has been growing demand for measures to reduce the environmental impact of the burial sites and guidelines fordesigning and management of burial sites, considering domestic characteristics, to stabilize them. This study aims toacquire basic data to build pilot burial sites. To this end, we established lab scale reactors to analyze decompositioncharacteristics of buried bovine and swine carcasses and properties of leachate and malodorous substances from them.The results showed that the decomposition of the samples inflated all reactors on its fifth day. But with time, as the volumeof the samples decreased, the solum started to subside. In conclusion, at least 8 weeks was needed for the burial sitesto stabilize. Malodorous substances, unlike other types of gas, were found to have relatively high content of sulfurousgases from 43 to 355 ppb. The four types of detected sulfurous gases were all classified as specific malodorous substances,producing rotting and unpleasant smell, irritating skin, eyes and the respiratory system, and damaging the central nervoussystem. Therefore, it is considered that controling sulfurous gases will play an important role in treating malodoroussubstances from burial sites.

        생활패턴 변화에 따른 폐기물 실태조사 연구

        With the changing lifestyle in the so-called IT era, smart phone era and aging society, there have been growing interestsin new types of waste. Under these circumstances, we conducted a survey on discharge of waste, focusing on smallelectrical and electronic waste (e-waste), packaging products, and lifestyle. The survey was carried out on 1,000 ordinarypeople of 19 to 60-something years old in 16 regions by the Random Digit Dialing (RDD) method. For the purchase ofsmall electrical and electronic devices, 42.4% of the respondents answered the most recent product they had bought wasa cell-phone and the most recently discarded item was also cell-phones (17.4%). In general, purchased and discarded smallelectrical and electronic items showed a similar trend. To the question on how to discard their small electrical and electronicdevices, the largest number of respondents (29.3%) answered that they return them to the store where they bought theproduct, and younger generations in their 20s and 30s, unmarried people, and students preferred to throw them intostandard plastic garbage bags. It was found that most frequently used disposable packaging products were in the orderof paper, plastic bags, paper cups, and wooden chopsticks, and take-out food containers were used on average 2.03 timesper month. Also, take-out food containers were more used by men over women, cities over rural areas, and families withthree or more members. In addition, most frequently purchased items via the internet or home shopping were found tobe in the order of clothes, food, cosmetics, and electrical and electronic devices. It is estimated that the wide use of internetis boosting purchase of a variety of items like food and cosmetics as well as clothes.

      • 광재의 용출, 함량특성 고찰을 통한 폐기물 관리의 적정성 평가

        우리나라는 현재 ‘폐기물 관리법’의 지정폐기물은 11종으로 대분류되고 74종으로 세분화 되어 있어서, EU 및 미국에 비하여 폐기물 목록의 분류가 세분화되어 있지 않고 포괄적으로 관리 되고 있다. 따라서 관리대상 유해폐기물의 항목이 적으며 유해특성의 적용범위가 제한적이고, 배출원 정보가 결여되어 있다. 이와 같은 문제점을 해결하고, 국제적 동향에 발맞추기 위해 폐기물 분류를 업종별, 공정별, 유해성분 등에 의해 명확히 분류해야 한다. 폐기물 목록 분류를 통해 폐기물 관리가 효율적으로 이루어 질 것이며, 폐기물 분류의 오류를 방지하고 국제적 환경변화에 발맞추어 대응 할 수 있을 것이다. 지정폐기물로 관리되고 있는 광재폐기물의 최근 발생량은 2008년부터 꾸준히 증가하고 있다. 연도별 광재의 연간발생량11)은 2007년 13,497 ton, 2008년 25,295 ton, 2009년 12,776 ton, 2010년 12,773 ton 그리고 2011년 15,112 ton 으로 평균 15,890 ton 이다. 또한, 2011년도 광재의 연간 처리량은 재활용이 9,386.6 ton, 매립 301.7 ton, 기타 처리 및 이월보관 합산량은 5,566.7 ton 으로 나타났다. 광재의 관리는 현행 폐기물 관리법12)에서 지정폐기물에 함유된 유해물질 7항목 (Hg, Pb, Cd, As, Cr6+, Cu, CN)에 대해 용출 시험에 의한 규제 기준으로 관리하고 있으며, 함량기준 및 시험방법은 마련되어 있지 않은 실정이다. 지정폐기물에 함유된 유해물질 기준은 Pb 3 mg/L, Cu 3 mg/L, As 1.5 mg/L, Hg 0.005 mg/L, Cd 0.3 mg/L, Cr6+ 1.5 mg/L, 그리고 CN은 1 mg/L 으로 관리되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 폐기물 발생량이 증가하고 있는 사업장 배출시설계 폐기물 중 광재류의 용출 및 함량특성을 조사하였다. 이에 따라 국내 열처리 공정 22개 사업장 25개 시료를 채취하여 무기물질류 7항목(Cr6+, Cd, Cu, Pb, Hg, As, CN)을 용출 및 함량분석하였다. 광재의 배출특성 조사결과 일반 폐기물로 관리되는 광재 중 폐기물관리법 용출기준을 초과하여 지정폐기물로 관리가 필요한 시료 (2건/13건)와 이와 반대로 지정폐기물에서 일반폐기물로의 관리가 필요한 시료 (11건/12건)가 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 이러한 분석결과에 따라서 일반/지정폐기물 가능성이 있는 광재에 대한 장기적인 모니터링이 필요하며, 향후 국내에서 발생되는 광재의 효율적인 관리를 통한 지정 및 일반폐기물 처리 체계를 보완해야 할 것으로 판단된다.

        가정에서의 음식물쓰레기 배출 모니터링 및 저감방안

        In spite of the government's various efforts to reduce food waste, the food waste in Korea has increased about 3%every year, mainly due to the growing population, number of households, and income. Food waste occurs in the processesof production, transportation, distribution, storage and cooking of food ingredients. However, there has been little reliabledata about how households - a major food waste source - store and treat their food and how much food waste they produce.In this regard, we thought it was important to understand the exact amount and characteristics of food waste fromhouseholds in order to reduce the country's food waste, which is why we monitored kinds, storage periods, treatment,and waste of food consumed in 100 households in the Seoul metropolitan area. Households normally store their foodingredients in refrigerators - on average 33 kinds and 35kg of food are stored - and some of them stayed there for upto 3 years. Moreover, not a small portion of the food is thrown away nearly untouched, mostly because people tend topurchase too much food at one time or they don't know or miss their expiration dates. The amounts of food waste bytype were in the order of vegetable>side dish>frozen food>fruit>seasoning. Also, we suggest effective and realisticmeasures to reduce food waste and promote a more desirable food consumption culture.

        시멘트 소성로 투입 부원료·보조연료의 중금속 함량 특성 비교

        An issue of environmental pollutions has been aroused according to increases in recycling alternative raw materials and alternative fuels, which are the inputed wastes of cement kilns in Korea. Also, the infections of heavy metals in cement products on healths and environments have been issued by the National Assembly and the press. Thus, in this study, a total of 198 waste samples, 109 alternative raw material samples and 89 alternative fuel samples, which are the coprocessing wastes in eight major cement producers in Korea, are collected for two months. Then, 18 different heavy metals according to types of wastes are analyzed and the concentrations of the alternative raw materials and alternative fuels are investigated for comparing them with the foreign management guidelines. In the case of the alternative raw materials, although arsenic, cadmium, and copper do not exceed the domestic autonomy agreement guideline, lead exceeds the autonomy agreement guideline, 1,000 mg/kg. In the case of mercury, it satisfies the references of domestic guideline (2.0 mg/kg), Switzerland criteria (0.5 mg/kg), and France criteria (10.0 mg/kg). In the case of the alternative fuel, arsenic, cadmium, copper, and lead satisfy the autonomy agreement guideline, and the average content concentration of Hg represents 0.7702 mg/kg and that satisfies the references of autonomy agreement guideline (1.2 mg/kg) and France criteria (10.0 mg/kg). However, it slightly exceeds the references of Germany guideline (0.6 mg/kg) and Switzerland criteria (0.5 mg/kg). In particular, some of dust, WDF, waste synthesis resin, and purified oil show a high detection level in mercury and that leads to increase the average concentration. In addition, by investigating the concentration of heavy metals in various auxiliary wastes loaded to cement kilns in Korea, a management reference for such alternative raw materials and alternative fuels for future cement kilns in stages is proposed.
