The encased composite beam suggested in this paper consists of precast concrete, structural tees and cast-in-place concrete. To unify the behaviors of composite members, shear connectors were installed in the web and the flange of structural tees member respectively. There are no clear criteria available yet for estimation of shear connector quantity to be used in enclosed composite beam. To prevent construction costs from increasing for excessive design of shear connector and ensure rigidity of cross-section by unifying member behaviors, appropriate design for shear connector of encased composite beam is required. Therefore, this paper adopted the concept of shear flow and proposed design formula for dowel bar and stud in reference to required shear force.

As interest in composite structure system increases around the world, it is also witnessing ever more applications as well. Composite structure employes more than two heterogeneous members, which makes it unavoidable to use shear connectors to unify member behaviors. However, clear criteria for such shear connector are not available yet. Therefore, this study attempted to analyze the performance of shear connector used in composite beam having structural tees encased in reinforced concrete. In the analysis, it was found that a stud made significant contribution to unifying the behaviors of reinforced concrete and steel frame and the rate of deformation of stud toward the edge side was relatively higher than the central region of the beam.

Polycarbonate (PC)/mineral silica composites were prepared by melt-mixing to improve PC's surface characteristics. The silica's surface was modified using a silane coupling agent with amine functional moiety prior to blending. The effects of silica on the PC's morphology, dynamic mechanical properties, molecular weight, and pencil hardness were investigated. Although SEM showed that silane treatment promoted interfacial adhesion between the PC and the silica, the storage modulus of the PC/silica composites increases with increasing silica content irrespective of silane treatment. Silica addition decreased the molecular weight (MW), and thus the melt viscosity of PC in the composites. The reduction was slightly greater at higher silica contents and when silane-treated silica was added. Despite the detrimental effects of silica on the MW, the pencil hardness of the PC increased to F grade when silane-treated silica of 40 phr was added possibly due to the increased modulus and interfacial adhesion.
