To minimize injuries of OOP condition is the most critical and important design point and development target of the passenger side airbag module. As a supplementary restraint system, PAB have been a help to reduce fatal injuries especially on frontal impact situation, however mid-mounted type PAB module also has a definite defect when is deployed with passengers side occupant of 6year or less infants(3year or 12 month) on OOP condition. Thus National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) makes Final Rule Making (FRM) including the concept of advanced airbag system which is required to reinforce safety performance for children or small sized occupant on out-of-position and all the vehicle makers who sell their vehicles in North America shall comply with FRM. Through evaluating the PAB design factors for mid-mounted position, it is recommended the most appropriate design guideline to protect passengers in OOP condition..<br/>

Background/Aims: The aim of this study was to examine the incidence of proximal colon adenoma according to characteristics of distal colon adenoma. Methods: Ninety-two colon adenoma patients who underwent total colonoscopy and endoscopic polypectomy were analyzed retrospectively. Adenoma was classified as proximal when located in proximal to splenic flexure. The advanced adenoma was defined as an adenoma larger than 10 mm or any size with a villous component or severe dysplasia. Results: The incidence of proximal adenoma was increased significantly in those with old age (odds ratio (OR)=3.3), villous (OR=5.3) or dysplastic histology (OR=8.1) or the presence of advanced distal adenoma (OR=3.4). However, the incidence of advanced proximal adenoma was increased only in those with old age (OR=11.2). Nineteen in thirty-nine (48.7%) patients with proximal colon adenoma did not have distal colon adenoma, Conclusions: Various characteristics of distal colon adenoma couldn't exactly predict the presence of synchronous proximal adenoma and a greater percentage of subjects with proximal adenoma didn't have distal adenoma. So, colonoscopy could be a standard method for colon cancer screening in Korea.

Background/Aims: CD44 is a cell surface molecule which is divided into CD44s and CD44v subsets. The relationship between th expressions of CD44 variant and progression of colorectal carcinoma has not been defined. The aims of this study were to analyze the expressions of CD44s and CD44v6 in colorectal adenoma and colorectal carcinoma by immunohistochemical methods and to evaluate the relationship between their expressions and various clinicopathological prognostic factors. Methods: We evaluated retrospectively the records of 20 cases of colorectal adenoma and 56 cases of colorectal carcinoma. The expressions of CD44s and CD44v6 were investigated by immunohistochemical staining. Results: CD44s was expressed in all cases of adenoma and in 86% of colorectal carcinoma (p$gt;0.05). The expression rates of CD44v6 were 20% in colorectal adenoma and 80% in colorectal carcinoma (p$lt;0.01). In colorectal carcinoma, the expression of CD44s showed no significant relationship with various prognostic factors, but the expression rate of CD44v6 was significantly increased according to histologic grade. There was no significant difference in the expression rate of CD44v6 according to the stage of the disease and tumor invasion. Conclusions: In colorectal carcinoma, CD44v6 expression was significantly increased in relation with histologic grade and lymph node metastasis. These results suggested that CD44v6 could be useful as a marker of tumor progression and metastasis, but further study is needed.
