Human Vesicular Glutamate Transporters Functionally Complement EAT-4 in C. elegans

The vesicular glutamate transporter (VGLUT) transports glutamate into pre-synaptic vesicles. Three isoforms of VGLUT have been identified in humans, but their functional differences remain largely unknown. EAT-4 is the only homologue of human VGLUT in C. elegans. Here we report that mutants of eat-4 exhibit hyperforaging behavior and that each of the isoforms of human VGLUT functionally rescues the defects in eat-4 worms.

홈네트워크는 기술의 통합적인 제공에 따라 높은 신뢰성이 필요하지만, 안전성이 확보되지 않는 홈네트워크는 사용자로부터 외면을 받을 수 밖에 없다. 또한 유무선 네트워크 및 프로토콜들 각각에 대한 보안이 고려되어 있다 하더라도 이들의 혼재로 인한 새로운 취약점이 생길 수 있고, 홈네트워크 서비스를 운용하는 과정에서 새로운 취약점이 드러나고 있다. 본 고에서는 안전한 홈네트워크 구축을 위해 최근 국내/외에서 다양한 표준이 제정, 논의되고 있으며, 홈네트워크 보안에 관한 국내/외 표준화 동향을 소개한다. 또한 홈네트워크 구축시 고려되어야 할 홈네트워크의 보안취약성 및 관련 보안기술 개발동향을 설명한다.

In this paper, a new method for flat sweeping automatic hold of wavelength swept laser has proposed. Through theperformance test on the implemented laser, even 5 hours passed, the flat sweeping has held up well, and flatsweeping range, sweeping frequency, and average optical power were obtained. This showes that theproposed can eliminate the necessity of hand-operated polarization control required for previous swept lasers in case oflong time operation and also optical spectrum analyzer needed to monitor the sweeping spectrum status. 본 논문에서는 파장 스위핑 레이저의 평탄 스위핑을 자동 유지하기 위한 새로운 방식을 제안하였다. 이 방식이 적용된 레이저의제작 및 실험을 통하여 5시간이 경과하여도 평탄 스위핑 특성이 잘 유지되고 있음을 관찰하였다. 그리고 의 스위핑 범위,1의 스위핑 주파수, 그리고 의 광 출력 파워도 확인하였다. 제안된 방식은 기존에 스위핑 레이저를 장시간 구동시킬때 불가피하던 수동 편광 조절의 번거로움을 해소시키고 이 과정에서 요구되던 고가 광 스펙트럼 분석기의 사용을 배제시킨다

The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of low dose X-irradiation (0.1∼1.5 Gy) on the frequency of pyknosis and micronuclei in leukocytes in mice. For observation of pyknosis and micronuclei in leukocytes, blood smears were performed, then stained with Hematoxylin-Eosine. The frequencies of pyknosis and micronuclei cells were observed under microscopic field. The frequency of pyknotic leukocytes with degeneration, disintegration and dark-stained nuclei was signifantly high in groups of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 Gy irradiation (P<0.05, P<0.001 and P<0.0001, respectively), compared with the control. The occurrence of micronuclei of leukocytes was also significantly high in groups of 1.0 Gy (P<0.05) and 1.5 Gy irradiation (P<0.05) compared with the control. These results suggest that the irradiation with 0.5∼1.5 Gy damaged to leucocytes in a dose-dependent manner.

Background and ObjectivesZZA distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) is a noninvasive method which is commonly used to assess the hearing function of the cochlea and to reflect objective information of specific frequency in the cochlea. We hypothesize that after applying a broad band noise (BBN), the outer hair cell’s function will change and cause reduction in the amplitude of DPOAEs and signal to noise ratio (SNR). Subjects and MethodZZWe performed the examination on 40 subjects (80 ears) who have a normal hearing function. DPOAEs were recorded before and after BBN stimulation (intensity: 90dB HL, duration: 10 minutes). ResultsZZAfter the BBN stimulation, the amplitude of DPOAEs and SNR were decreased at all frequencies. The amplitude of DPOAEs and SNR decreased 0.3-1.6 dB SPL, 0.6-1.5 dB SPL,respectively. Decreases in the amplitude had statistical significances after 3 and 6 minutes in 1kHz, 3 and 6 minutes in 2 kHz, immediately after noise exposure, and after 3 and 6 minutes in 6kHz. However, the SNR changes had statistical significance only after 3 minutes in 1 kHz. After the stimulation, pure tone threshold at 4 kHz increased 3.2±3.9 dB HL. After the BBN exposure,the amplitude of DPOAEs and SNR decreased at all frequencies and most of them recovered within 12 minutes. ConclusionZZThese results suggest that DPOAE could be a clinically useful method for the purpose of screening, managing and assessing the prognosis of acoustic trauma and noise induced sensorineural hearing loss.
