This paper examines the understanding of death in the 49th rite in terms of Buddhism. In the rite Buddha is the base of the rite, the monk is the presenter of the rite, and the bereaved families is the person who requested the proceedings to console the spirit. The center or the main character of the rite is the spirit. The reason that the rite was established as the core of the Buddhist rituals is that our life does not end with the death of the body. The rite reflects the Buddhist understanding of death that the spirit turns to life after death. From the perspective of thanatology, the key process of the rite is divided into five categories, focusing on the spirit. 1) Greet the spirit, 2) wash the karma of the spirit, 3) pray for a life of paradise, 4) tell the spirit about Buddhist teaching, and 5) leave the spirit. Therefore, the five procedures for the rite are the form of Buddhist rituals, and the contents contained in the rite are the Buddhist understanding of death. Performing the rite means not only repeating Buddhist rituals but also reflecting and practicing Buddha’s teaching related to death in everyday life. The Buddhist understanding of death contained in the rite is very different from the understanding of body-centered death in our society, which is commonly used in medical fields such as cardiac-death and brain-death. According to Buddhism our life does not end with the death of the body, but the spirit goes out to the other world and has a new life. For the rite to be a meaningful event, it is more important than anything else that the spirit, the bereaved families, and the participants of the rite understand death accurately. The understanding of death in our society is as follows. 1) We understand death based on our body. 2) It's all over when we die. 3) We deny the spirit. 4) Death is considered a fear or despair. 5) This understanding of death is widely prevalent in our society. However, Buddhist understanding of death reflected in the rite is as follows. 1) Buddhism does not understand human existence by body alone. 2) Death does not end by itself. 3) Buddhism does not deny the spirit. 4) Death is not considered a fear or despair. 5) Buddhism has various lessons related to death. Thus, the understanding of body-centered death in our society prevalent in modern days, and the Buddhist understanding of death reflected in the rite, are very different.

In Part I, we disccussed of joint between PHC pile and steel column in foundation of large space structures, one prototype of a joint of PHC pile to steel pipe column was suggested on the basis of analytical studies. In this paper, I explain the Joint of PHC pile to steel tube column and more detail of analysis
