Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A (eIF5A) is the only hypusine-containing protein, which is formed by deoxyhypusine synthase (DHS) and deoxyhypusine hydroxylase (DOHH). DOHH is a novel metalloenzyme with HEAT [named for human huntingtin (H), elongation factor 3 (E), a subunit of protein phosphatase 2A (A), and the target of rapamycin (T)]-repeat motifs. Inspite of much progress in determining the roles of iron-containing DOHH holoenzyme as an eIF5A hydroxylase, little is known about iron-free apoenzyme of DOHH under certain stress conditions. For this purpose, we compared cell growth in two yeast strains subjected to oxidative damage. Thus, the existence of more viable cells in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae BY4743 (parental yeast) strain than in the DOHH-null strain after H2O2 treatment indicates the importance of DOHH in protecting yeast cells against oxidative stress. To identify endogenous target proteins influenced by DOHH under oxidative damage, proteomic analysis was applied to the two yeast strains. Of these proteins, the oxidized form of peroxiredoxin I (PrxI) was concomitantly up-regulated in both strains under H2O2 treatment. Two-dimensional electrophoresis (DE) followed by immunoblot analysis shows that the recovery of the oxidized PrxI to the reduced enzyme under H2O2 treatment was found to be much slower in the DOHH-null strain than in the parental strain. Based on the results, we discovered a possible interaction between DOHH and PrxI by immunoprecipitation/immunoblotting in yeast under oxidative stress. Taken together, these results suggest that DOHH might be a candidate protein for protection of yeast cells against oxidative stress in conjunction with PrxI.

본 연구는 국내에서 육성된 차나무 품종별 홍차 제다 특성 비교에 필요한 기초 자료를 얻고자 수행되었다. 국내 육성 차나무 품종인 참녹, 금설, 비취설 3종을 하동지역의 전통 ‘햇볕 잭살’ 방식으로 홍차를 제다하였다. 총카테킨함량은 재래종 대비 비취설 3.04%, 금설 0.73%, 참녹 0.18% 높았으며, 카페인 함량은 비취설 1.54%, 금설1.36%, 참녹 1.16%, 품종별 테아플라빈 함량은 참녹 0.54% > 금설 0.52% > 비취설 0.38% 순서로 참녹이 상대적으로 빠르게 산화가 진행되었음을 알 수 있었다. 전체유리아미노산 함량은 금설이 가장 높았다. 8개 맛(신맛, 쓴맛, 쓴맛 후미, 떫은맛, 떫은맛 후미, 감칠맛, 감칠맛 후미, 짠맛)의 합산치는 비취설 10.6, 금설 2.1, 참녹 -1.7, 맛의평균치는 비취설 1.3 ± 1.8, 금설 0.3 ± 1.5, 참녹 -0.2 ± 1.9로 3개 품종 중 비취설이 맛이 풍부하였다. 향기성분은초콜릿 향과 꽃향은 금설보다 비취설이 우수하며, 청량함은 금설이 높은 경향을 보였다.

초국가적인 문화 전파와 인구 이동의 폭발적 증가로 인해 이제 우리의 이웃에서 동남 아시아 출신 외국인과 태국 혹은 베트남 음식점을 접하는 것은 그리 어렵지 않은 일 이며, 패밀리레스토랑 빕스의 샐러드바에서 인도네시아 음식 나시고렝은 인 기 메뉴가 되었 다. 소위 “동남아 현상”이라 일컬을 만한 이러한 새로운 환경 속에서 영화, 음 악 등 대중문화 가 동남아시아로부터 유입되고 있으며, 동남아를 주제로 한 혹은 동남아적 요 소를 첨가한 다 양한 장르의 대중문화물이 제작, 유통, 소비되고 있다. 최근 국내외적으로 선 풍적인 인기를 끌고 있는 걸그룹 2NE1의 멤버 산다라 박은 필리핀 교포 출신이며, 보이밴드 2PM의 닉쿤은 태국계 혈통이다. 2009년에는 동남아시아 출신 노동자가 주연을 맡은 영화 < 반두비>가 출시 되어 비평가들의 주목을 받은 바 있으며, 발리 혹은 싱가포르 등 동남아시아 를 극중 장면으로 삽입한 TV 드라마는 헤아릴 수조차 없을 정도다. 이에, 본 연구는 “동남아로 부터의 대중문화 현상”의 실체가 무엇인지, 이를 추동하는 요소에는 어떠한 것들이 있는지, 이 러한 새로운 현상의 의미는 무엇인지를 대중문화와 문화 흐름에 관한 이론적 체계 속에서 기 술, 분석, 평가 한다. It is remarkable that it has become commonplace to find people and cultural forms from Southeast Asia these days in Korea. In the realm of popular culture, more films and musical elements are flowing from Southeast Asia. For example, a K-pop singer Nichkun is Thai, a girl group 2NE1 member Sandara Park is from the Philippines, and a popular band Mocca is Indonesian. However, a so-called Southeast Asian Cultural Wave is not as big as the Korean Wave, and it is surmised that the former in Korea is only possible with the influences of the later in Southeast Asia. In addition, there are few research on Southeast Asian Cultural Wave as of now. This research is to describe, analyze and evaluate this new phenomenon in the Korean society.
국내육성 차 품종별 홍차(잭살차)의 성분 및 항산화 특성

Jaeksal black tea was made from the leaves of three Korean tea varieties, ‘Chamnok’, ‘Keumsull’, and ‘Beachwisull’. Among them, the tea components and antioxidant activities were analyzed to determine which variety is suitable for the black tea type. The black teas were prepared by the traditional Jaeksal fermentation method, where all steps are performed under sunshine. The contents of total phenolic compounds were highest in ‘Beachwisull’ at 171.9 mg GAE/g. In addition, the catechins and caffeine contents were much higher in ‘Beachwisull’ than in ‘Keumsull’ and ‘Chamnok’. The contents of theaflavins were higher in the black tea of 'Chamnok' and 'Keumsull' than that of 'Beachwisull'. The DPPH and ABTS radical-scavenging activities were highest in the 'Beachwisull'. A comparison of the cultivars revealed 'Beachwishull' black tea to have higher contents of total phenolic compounds, catechin, and caffeine, as well as higher antioxidant activity, whereas the theaflavin contents were higher in 'Chamnok'. Therefore, the 'Beachwisull' cultivar is most suitable for black tea characteristics.

Against the backdrop of cultural globalization and regionalization, a new transnational cultural phenomenon called Korean Wave has occurred in the past decade in Asia. This study observes the development of Korean Wave in Singapore and examines the ways in which Korean women diaspora enjoy homeland television dramas and make meanings while living in Singapore. It is found that Korean drama viewing provides women with cultural resources for them to tactically resist the male dominance in gender hierarchy. The Korean Wave phenomenon plays an interesting role in this semiotic juncture. Moving the cultural industries' position upwardly in Korean economy, it has allowed the expertise about Korean television drama to function as an agent of empowerment for women in familial power relations. It is, however, found that such an empowerment is limited in its political efficacy. Korean Wave has also heightened the ethnic pride among Korean women in their relations with other Asians. Articulated to these contexts, Korean Wave produces new meanings and serves new cultural interests for my subjects.

The effects of difference in the shading types on the quality of matcha are as follows. The three types used in this study were direct-shading, FRP pole-shading, and screen-shading. The contents of total phenolic compounds were highest in the direct-shaded matcha at 141.6 mg GAE/g. Antioxidant activity was also highest in the direct-shaded matcha, which coincided with the highest content of phenolic compounds. Shading cultivation increased the following: EGCG, ECG, caffeine, and theanine levels, while decreasing the EC and EGC levels of the matcha. Sugar (fructose, glucose, sucrose, maltose, lactose) contents and surface color, such as the G- and chroma-value were the highest in the screen-shaded matcha with the highest chlorophyll contents. All shaded types and Japanese premium matcha were stronger than the non-shaded matcha with bitter and astringency and richness. In general, high-grade matcha tended to have a strong initial taste and a weak after-taste. Based on this research, empirical studies are needed through the establishment of optimal shaded cultivation conditions and application to the field. 하동지역은 비단일품종(재래종)의 차나무가 주로 경사지에 재배되고 있어 고급 말차 생산이 열악한 조건이다. 하지만 지속적으로 성장하는 말차 시장에 경쟁력을 갖춘 고급 말차 생산을 위해 경사지에 가장 적합한 차광 형태(직접차광, FRP pole 차광, 스크린차광)와 말차 품질 차이를 연구하였다. 총 페놀성 화합물 함량은 차광 및 이차스트레스 정도가 큰 직접차광 말차에서 141.6 mg GAE/g로 가장 높았으며, 항산화 활성 역시 총 페놀성 화합물 함량이 높은 직접차광 말차에서 가장 높았다. 차광재배 시 비차광 재배 말차 보다 EGCG, ECG, 카페인, 테아닌 함량은 증가하고 EC와 EGC 함량은 감소하는데 총 페놀성 화합물 함량이 높은 직접차광에서 EGCG 함량이 가장 높았고 EC와 EGC는 가장 낮았다. FRP pole 차광에서 테아닌, 카페인, ECG 함량이 가장 높았다. 스크린차광의 가장 큰 특징은 카페인 함량은 가장 낮으면서 엽록소함량 및 당함량이 가장 높았다. 전자 혀를 이용한 맛분석 결과는 일본 최고급 말차가 쓴맛, 떫은맛과 해초류에서 느껴지는 감칠맛이 높았으며, 차광 형태별로 FRP pole 차광 말차가 신맛과 쓴맛은 높고 감칠맛과 감칠맛 후미는 낮았다. 직접차광 말차는 감칠맛 후미와 쓴맛 후미가 높았고, 스크린차광 말차에서 떫은맛이 높은 특징을 보였다. 말차의 품질 평가시 가장 우선시 되는 색도는 스크린차광에서 G 값(49.3), 채도 값(34.7) 가장 높았고 특히 일본 최고급 말차와 비교한 TCD가 3.0으로 일본 고급 말차(2.9)와 동일한 수준의 색도를 보였으나 최고급 말차 수준에는 미달하였다. 이에 스크린차광 형태를 현장에 적용하고 이외 비배 관리 및 기타 색도 증가를 위한 친환경⋅유기재배 관련 연구를 추후 진행하고자 한다.
The Impact of the Korean Wave, Power Structures, and Globalization

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the changing and expanding roles of popular culture of and on Asia (ns) in this media globalization era with a focus on Korean wave. This paper also addresses the continuities of power structures controlled by governments and global media industries. While governments try to expand their influences by recourse to popular culture, the media giants reinforce their power by co-opting ideas and incorporating talent from around the world. In other words, governments and global media industries are dedicated to exploiting the market-oriented media system rather than pursuing an equitable representation of Asians and Non-Asians alike and democratizing the media. This situation calls for civil society to discuss the publicness of media, which is easily disregarded in today’s increasingly interconnected, commercial media environment.
과산화수소 처리가 수수의 발아 및 초기 생장에 미치는 효과

As the global warming causing desertification increase, there is growing concern about damage of crops. It was to investigate how the treatment with hydrogen peroxide before leaf development affects the growth and yield of sorghum for minimizing a damage of crops to drought. The germination experiment was conducted at alternating temperature of $25^{\circ}C/20^{\circ}C$(12 hr/12 hr) under water stress condition of 0 ~ -0.20 MPa adjusted with PEG solution containing 0 and 10 mM $H_2O_2$. In order to know the effect of foliar application of hydrogen peroxide on the growth of sorghum, 10 mM hydrogen peroxide was treated to leaves at 3-leaf stage of sorghum growing in greenhouse conditions. Seed germination rate was increased by 20% in hydrogen peroxide treatment as compared to the Control. under water stress conditions (-0.15 ~ -0.20 MPa). The length of seedlings was also on the rise by the hydrogen peroxide treatment. In the greenhouse pot experiment, the morphological characteristics (plant height, stem diameter, leaf length, and leaf number) and physiological characteristics (chlorophyll content, chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv/Fm), stomatal conductance) were higher in the plants treated with hydrogen peroxide under the drought stress condition than those of plants of $H_2O$ treatment. Experiment conducted with the soil moisture gradient system showed that the foliar application of hydrogen peroxide increased photosynthetic ability of sorghum plant with respect to SPAD value and stomatal conductance and rooting capacity (root weight and root length) under drought condition. Generally, hydrogen peroxide treatment in sorghum increased the tolerance to drought stress and maintained better growth due to ameliorating oxidative stress.
