Report of the Genus Rhodobates (Lepidoptera, Tineidae) New to Korea
손재천 한국동물분류학회 2022 Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity Vol.38 No.3
A tineid genus, Rhodobates Ragonot, 1895 in Myrmecozelinae is reported for the first time from Korea, with a congener, R. cupulatus Li and Xiao, 2006. The voucher specimens of the species comprise four males and four females collected from Seoul City, Sejong City, Gangwon-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Chungcheongnam-do. Among the previously-known species of Tineidae in Korea, Rhodobates cupulatus is similar to Psychoides gosari Kim and Bae in having the uniform coloration over the body and wings, but differs from the latter in the much larger body size. External appearance and genital features of R. cupulatus are redescribed and illustrated. A COI sequence of R. cupulatus is provided for the first time and compared in the world database of DNA barcodes. The Korean records of the species represent the first evidence of its occurrence out of the type locality. Circumstances of its collecting in Korea suggest that it is possibly feeding on dead woods in damp environments.
New Records of Three Yponomeutine Moths (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae) from Korea
손재천,박규택,조수원 한국동물분류학회 2010 Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity Vol.26 No.2
Two species of Yponomeutinae new to Korea, Euhyponomeutoides trachydeltus (Meyrick) and Thecobathra anas (Stringer), are reported. In addition, occurrence of Yponomeuta anatolicus (Stringer) in Korea is confirmed with proper collection of data. The adults and genitalia for the three species are illustrated.
The Newly Record and Four Little Known Species of Korean Noctuidae (Lepidoptera)
손재천,Laszlo RONKAY,Vladimir S. KONONENKO 한국곤충학회 2004 Entomological Research Vol.34 No.2
Three Noctuidae species: Orthogonia basimacula (Draudt), Hypersypnoidessubmarginata (Walker) and Maliattha khasanica Zolotarenko & Dubatolov, are newly added tothe Korean fauna. In addition, taxonomic notes of four little known noctuids are discussed with thefirst description of the female of Anatatha basinigra Kononenko & Ahn and the records of threespecies new to South Korea; Sinarella cristulalis (Staudinger), Bryomoia melachlora (Staudinger)and Pyrrhia bifasciata (Staudinger). The lectotype of Sinarella cristulalis (Staudinger) is designatedfor the first time. Figures illustrating adults and both sexes′ genitalia are provided.
Nano-granular Co-Fe-Al-O Soft Ferromagnetic Thin Films for RF Electromagnetic-noise Filters
손재천,변동진 한국전기전자재료학회 2006 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.7 No.1
Co-Fe-Al-O nano-granular thin films with high electrical resistivity, fabricated by radio frequency magnetron sputtering under an Ar+O2 atmosphere, are found to show good soft magnetic properties in the GHz frequency range. The real part value of the relative permeability is 260 at low frequencies and this value is maintained up to the GHz frequency range. A non-integrated type noise filter on a coplanar waveguide transmission line is demonstrated by using the Co-Fe-Al-O nano-granular thin film with the dimensions of 4 mm (l) × 4 mm (w) × 0.1 mm (t). The insertion loss is very low being less than 0.3 dB and this low value is maintained up to 2 GHz. At a ferromagnetic resonance frequency of 3.3 GHz, the degree of noise suppression is measured to be 3 dB. This level of noise attenuation is small for real applications, but there is much room for further improvement by increasing the magnetic volume and integrating the magnetic thin film into the CPW transmission line.

Elevation is strongly associated with the diversity and ecology of plants and animals. We explored how elevation affects herbivores on one of the major cool-temperate trees, Quercus mongolica, in southern South Korea. The feeding activities of insect herbivores were measured through insect-feeding damage on leaves. Of 78 types of insect-feeding damage that were observed from Jirisan Mountain (Mount.) and Hallasan Mount. in Korea, 61.6% was associated with externally feeding insects. The sum of feeding damages per leaf was significantly higher on Jirisan Mount. than on Hallasan Mount., and higher at higher elevation in both mountains. Two feeding guilds, externally feeding, and piercing and sucking were strongly related with elevation, but the relationship was opposite depending on feeding guild. Leaf damage by the internal feeding guild showed no effect of elevation at the two mountains. These study results showed that insect herbivory responds to elevational differences in temperate forests, and that such response can vary among feeding guilds.

A fern spore-feeding stathmopodid species, Calicotis latebrifica Terada, 2016 is reported for the first time from Korea on the basis of one male and three females from Island Chujado, Jeju Province. This record represents the third example of the Korean Lepidoptera associated with fern spores for larval food items. The species is similar to Cuprina fuscella Sinev, 1988 in feeding on fern spores but differs from the latter in the body color and the presence of cilia on the ventral side of antennal flagellum. The genus Calicotis is introduced for the first time to the Korean fauna. Calicotis latebrifica has been known exclusively from Japan before this study. Larval habits for feeding and shelter construction were demonstrated from field observation and rearing in captivity. A new host plant of C. latebrifica, Dryopteris nipponensis Koidz. is recorded. The habitus and genitalia of both sexes are briefly described for C. latebrifica with photographs.

Saridoscelis sphenias Meyrick is reported for the first time from Korea. It represents the second species of Saridoscelinae in the country. The external appearance and male genitalia of S. sphenias are described and illustrated. Records of this species in Korea bring a concern as a pest species to domestic blueberry cultivations.
H2S Gas Sensing Properties of SnO2:CuO Thin Film Sensors Prepared by E-beam Evaporation
손재천,유윤식,김성은,김지원 한국전기전자재료학회 2009 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.10 No.4
H2S micro-gas sensors have been developed employing SnO2:CuO composite thin films. The films were prepared by e-beam evaporation of Sn and Cu metals on silicon substrates, followed by oxidation at high temperatures. Results of various studies, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) reveal that SnO2 and CuO are mutually non-reactive. The CuO grains, which in turn reside in the inter-granular regions of SnO2, inhibit grain growth of SnO2 as well as forming a network of p-n junctions. The film showed more than a 90% relative resistance change when exposed to H2S gas at 1 ppm in air at an operating temperature of 350oC and had a short response time of 8 sec.
