Numerical analysis was performed to investigate the behavior of rammed aggregate piers (RAP) in soft ground with various interface conditions, area replacement ratio, aspect ratio and surcharge loads of pile and soil. And field modulus load test was carried out to predict the input parameters. Field prototype (unit cell) tests are in progress to compare the result of numerical analysis. Also a modified load transfer equation of RAP on soft foundation was proposed. According to the results, the behavior of RAP depended on such as interface conditions, settlement characteristics (free strain) and stress concentration ratio. On the other hand, maximum stress concentration ratio increased as area replacement ratio and aspect ratio increased, and it was remarkably affected by surcharge loads.

Nose is important hard-tissue structure forming facial contour. Especially nasal septum which serves as main sustenance of nose causes deformity with minor trauma easily. Without precise reconstruction immediately right after injury, it may result in not only respiratory difficulties and changes in nasal-sound forming but also cosmetic problem. Therefore it requires precise diagnosis and immediate correction of damaged structure through that diagnosis. So far we have had many problems such as recurrence of deviated nose and depression of nasal dorsal surface by performing nasal septum surgery without examining exact deformity state and site. Examining the deviated nose in this hospital, we used the bronchoendoscope that has strong point in comparatively easy-examining and exact diagnosing and confirming deformed site before operation by direct eye-contact and in leaving records as photocopies. We performed taking photographs of 15 patients' traumatic septal deformities and grasped exact deformed state of septum and intra-septal deformity and selected appropriate surgical method. Thus we could get satisfying results by performing septal deformity corrections in applying these methods.

Thumb takes up more than 40% of hand-function. Especially in case of multiple hand injuries thumb-function plays even more important role and thus various methods for reconstruction of thumb have been introduced so far. Reconstructive methods of thumb have been introduced such as phalangization, pollicization, osteoplastic reconstruction, toe to thumb reconstruction, and so forth. Each type of reconstructive procedure is indicated for a specific level of amputation of injury. We obtained satisfactory results in 4 cases of thumb-lost patients, two for pollicization, one for osteoplastic reconstruction, and one for toe-to-thumb reconstruction(wrap-around procedure).

To improve the accuracy of a machine, research needs to be conducted on the relationship between the output variables and design variables of a spindle-shaped part from the thermal and static viewpoints. Therefore, research was carried out by examining the correlation of each variable to find the optimum conditions. Moreover, DOE (design of experiments) was extensively used. The model used in this study was a grinding spindle to which a hydrostatic bearing was applied. This model was used in a preliminary analysis based on the experimental results of the previous studies. The influences of the output variables and design variables were compared through a main effect analysis. Generated response surfaces were applied to the Kriging model. To optimize the model, a screening method was selected. In comparison with the initial model, the deformation of the optimized model designed by DOE decreased by 4.1 ㎛, while the thermal deformation decreased by 1.2 ㎛. Therefore, it was efficient to design a spindle-shaped part through DOE to improve the accuracy of the machine.
