        한국산 마늘에 의한 Aspergillus parasiticus의 성장 억제 효과

        This study was performed to investigate the possible effect of garlic produced in Korea on the inhibition/reduction of growth of A. parasiticus, a toxigenic strain. The effect was studied using different concentrations of freeze-dried garlic in potato-dextrose agar (PDA) and/or in yeast-extract sucrose (YES) broth at $25^{\circ}C$ for 15 days. While inhibition of the fungal growth due to increasing the concentration of garlic was observed, the more remarkable effect was observed on the ninth day. Reduction of fungal diameter as a result of addition of garlic on PDA was observed to range between 3.4% to 20.1 % while reduction of mycelial weight in YES broth ranged from 9.9% to 30.5%. The 0.5% and 1.0% concentrations of garlic significantly reduced fungal diameter in PDA on the 9th day, while 0.1 %, 0.5%, and 1.0% concentrations of garlic significantly reduced the mycelial weight in YES broth (p<0.05). Dose-response relationships were observed between the concentration of garlic and inhibition of growth both in solid culture and in liquid culture. This study indicates that garlic could be an effective inhibitor at a human consumption level of the growth of A. parasiticus. More research is needed to study the inhibitory effects of the main active component of garlic.

        RhPt 이종금속 나노입자의 크기 및 조성 제어를 통한 촉매 활성도에 관한 연구

        This study shows that catalytic activity of bimetallic RhPt nanoparticle arrays under CO oxidation can be tuned by varying the size and composition of nanoparticles. The tuning of size of RhPt nanoparticles was achieved by changing concentration of rhodium and platinum precursors in one-step polyol synthesis. Two-dimensional RhPt bimetallic nanoparticle arrays in different size and composition were prepared through Langmuir-Blodgett thin film technique. CO oxidation was carried out on these two-dimensional nanoparticle arrays, revealing higher activity on the smaller nanoparticles compared to the bigger nanoparticles. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results indicate the preferential surface segregation of Rh compared to Pt on the smaller nanoparticles, which is consistent with the thermodynamic analysis. Because the catalytic activity is associated with differences in the rates of $O_2$ dissociative adsorption between Pt and Rh, this paper suppose that the surface segregation of Rh on the smaller bimetallic nanoparticles is responsible for the higher catalytic activity in CO oxidation. This result suggests a control mechanism of catalytic activity via synthetic approaches of colloid nanoparticles, with possible application in rational design of nanocatalysts.

        조리종사자의 손 씻기 의식과 실천 및 손의 지표미생물 오염도에 관한 연구

        Hand-washing is one of the major factors in personal hygiene and public health. This study was undertaken to investigate the hygienic behavior of food-service employees, focusing on awareness of hand washing, hand washing practices, and the load of index microorganisms (aerobic plate count, total and fecal coliforms, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus) on the hands of food-service employees. A questionnaire survey completed by direct interview, direct observation of restrooms by the researcher and trained observers, and microbiological examination according to the Food Code of Korea were carried out. In the survey, a positive attitude toward hand washing compliance was reported; however, improper hand washing and poor hand hygiene of the food-service employees were seen under direct observation. Significant differences (p<0.05) were found between the questionnaire survey and the direct observations in hand washing compliance after using the toilet, duration of hand washing, use of hand washing agents, use of hand washing tools, washing of different parts of the hands, hand-drying method, temperature of water, and method of turning off the water. Samples taken from employees' hands before washing showed higher levels of bacteria than those taken during work and/or after washing (p<0.05). Poor hand washing practices were indicated by the positive results for total and fecal coliforms, E. coli, and S. aureus on the hands of some food-service employees. This study showed that there is a marked difference between the food-service employees' awareness of hand-washing and their actual hand-washing practices. The poor hand hygiene of and improper hand washing by the food-service employees should be addressed for improved food safety.

        패밀리 레스토랑의 핵심${\cdot}$고품질${\cdot}$기본서비스 요인과 요인 별 고객관리 차별화 전략에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study was to determine the detailed customer satisfaction and dissatisfaction factors of family restaurants in Korea, and to then classify the factors into 3 groups, inlcuding core service, quality service, and basic service. ‘Core service’ represents the critical factors that generate both satisfaction and dissatisfaction; ‘quality service’ generates only satisfaction; and ‘basic service’ generates only dissatisfaction. This categorization is based on Herzberg’s motivation-hygiene theory (1976) as well as Cadotte & Turgeon (1988). Based on the characteristics of the three groups, differentiation strategies in managing customer service were suggested to the family restaurant managers. A qualitative research method, termed the critical incident technique (CIT), was used in the study. This method helps researchers find new factors or attributes by grouping key issues from the anecdotes (critical incidents) and then categorizing common factors from the key issues. This research categorized key satisfiers and dissatisfiers into 33 factors, which were from 402 critical incidents described by 261 respondents. Eleven factors (response to service failures, food taste and quality, attention paid to customers, coupon/mileage point/discount card, customer’s ordinary requests, waiting, food diversity, food price, facility sanitation, checking out, customer’s special requests) were classified into core service, which required maximum management not regarding the level of customer satisfaction. Six factors (employee attitude, event, education and explanation, complementary food, customer’s mistakes, attention paid to children) were classified into quality service, which required differentiation strategy management. Finally, nine factors (speed of food service, employee’s mistakes, food sanitation, atmosphere and interior, seating, forcing orders, parking, other customers, reservations) were classified into basic service, which required minimum management at the level of the industry standards.

        Distractor Analysis to Improve the Quality of Multiple-Choice Item Development

        Generating effective distractors is critical to multiple-choice item development because distractors impact both psychometric properties and validity arguments. While the importance of distractors is recognized, studies on the extent distractors function as intended are limited. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate a distractor analysis. To do that, we examine the distractors of multiple-choice items developed to assess U.S. elementary preservice teachers’ metalinguistic knowledge in the four domains of phonology, morphology, syntax, and discourse. We analyze the functioning of the distractors using data from a pilot test of the measure (n=144), employing simple response option selection frequencies and the average scores associated with the selection of each option in the form of Rasch person ability estimates. The results show potential areas for item improvement and demonstrate the value of distractor analysis for making decisions about item revision. Through this analysis, we highlight the significance of distractor analysis in multiple-choice item development, suggesting that teachers with the appropriate content knowledge should be able to conduct such analyses for enhancing language teaching and assessment.

        균상식육종의 단파장 자외선 B치료 및 국소 스테로이드제제 도포 중 발생한 림프종양 구진증

        Patients with lymphomatoid papulosis have other lymphomas in 10∼20% of cases, most commonly mycosis fungoides, Hodgkin`s disease, and anaplastic large cell lymphoma. In a series involving at least 40 patients with lymphomatoid papulosis, the association of lymphomatoid papulosis with mycosis fungoides ranged from approximately 7% to 18%. It is most important to distinguish lymphomatoid papulosis from CD30-positive large cell transformation of mycosis fungoides. Both conditions can be distinguished on clinical grounds, and clinical course is often the only distinguishing feature. We report a case of lymphomatoid papulosis developing in an mycosis fungoides lesion in a patient who received 3 rounds of narrow band UVB phototherapy and topical corticosteroid application.         Pyogenic granuloma is one of the common benign vascular tumors of infants and children and it can also occur in adults. There are 25 reports of patients with pyogenic granuloma in the Korean medical literature. In three reports, giant pyogenic granuloma developed over 2 cm in size (1.3 × 0.7 cm, 1.2 × 0.8 cm and 1.1 × 0.7 cm, respectively). There have been no reports in the Korean medical literature of pyogenic granuloma over 2 cm in size. Herein, we report on a giant pyogenic granuloma on the palm of a 72-year old female. The lesion was of an unusually large size of 2.8 × 2.5 × 1.3 cm and we excised it by performing electrosurgery.

        남매에서 발생한 뇌건 황색종증

        Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) is a rare autosomal recessive lipid storage disease caused by sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27) deficiency. We report two CTX siblings that were presented with typical manifestations such as achilles tendon xanthomas, mental retardation, progressive gait ataxia, and upper motor signs. Their parents and other three sisters were healthy. Serum cholesterol level was within normal limits for both siblings. The older brother has been treated conservatively with muscle relaxant and dopamine agonist because the disease was so progressive, but the younger sister has been treated with 250 mg/day chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor (simvastatin 40 mg/day) to prevent the progressive neurologic dysfunction.
