The main objective of this research is to develop plans and policy implications of Incheon International Airport since a volume of air cargo transshipment in the airport has increased. General air cargo requires speed. Among many factors, speed is the most important factor influencing route choice decisions of air cargo transshipment. Incheon International Airport has advantages of its geographical location and advanced logistics information systems in order to become "hub airport" in Northeast Asia. Also the airport has tried to increase efficiency and speed of logistics systems However, the development of other airports causes fierce competition in air transport industry. This research suggests several plans for the development of Incheon International Airport including expansion of cargo terminal, the improvement of intermodal transportation service and advanced logistics information systems based on IT, invitation of global cargo companies and 3PL companies, and so on.

파운드의 서구문명 비판 : The Cantos의 도덕 시편들(Moral exempla)

This paper explores Cantos 12 and 13, which are usually called the "moral exempla" of Ezra Pound's epic, The Cantos. The First World War greatly changed Pound's view of the Western world. After having seen the breakdown of the traditions, he came to analyze the causes of the war in terms of perverted capitalism. For him, capitalism and usury were inseparable. For this reason, he even believed that the Jewish bankers were responsible for many wars in Europe. His analysis of the Western capitalism was also followed by a strong scepticism about the economic order in capitalism. He considered the capitalistic economic practices a total chaos. He tried to find an alternative tradition which could be a model for the Western society. This eventually led him to Confucius, who is believed to be one of the greatest Chinese philosophers. Canto 12 consists of several stories connected with the theme of usury. It portrays the world of perversion, that is the increases of money in an unnatural way ("contra naturam"). While Canto 12 depicts a corrupt world of the Western capitalism, Canto 13 reveals an ideal world of order and tranquility rendered by Confucian philosophy. To Pound, the world of Confucian philosophy was the world of eternal truth. Yet it should be noted that even Confucius's China represented in Canto 13 was not really an ideal state. Confucius deplored the lost golden age when the wise ancient leaders had established order and tranquility in China. As a critic of the West, Pound's ultimate wish was to revive a cultural florescence by borrowing the teaching of Confucius.

Lord Byon, in the epigraph of Childe Harold's Pilgrimage(1812-1818), quotes the opening sentences of a book written by Fougeret de Monbron. There, Byron conveys what might be called his cosmopolitanism: "The universe is a kind of book of which you have read but one page when you have seen only your own country. I have leafed through a sufficient number to have found them equally bad. This study has not been unprofitable for me. I hated my country. . . ." Disgusted by the reception of his first published volume of poems, Byron attacked his critics and traveled the East. Between 1809 and 1811, he traveled Portugal, Spain, Malta, and the Levant. In fact, Byron's visit to these areas can be regarded as a turning point in his poetic career, as Jerome J. McGann elucidates:

분수 다항식 모형을 이용한 최저임금 변화의 창업에 대한 효과 분석

This study empirically analyzed the effect of changes in the minimum wage on start-ups using global entrepreneurship monitor (GEM) and OECD national panel data. To explain the nonlinear relationship between start-ups and the minimum wage observed in the sample data, we used fractional polynomial regression model designed to increase the flexibility of the polynomial model. According to the empirical results, in both quadratic model and the fractional polynomial model of the minimum wage, start-up and the minimum wage showed an inverse U-shaped correlation. From the estimation results of the fractional polynomial, the minimum hourly wage for maximizing start-ups was $6.3, and it can be inferred that the increase in the minimum wage in Korea since 2016, when the minimum hourly wage was $6.5 or higher, may have dampened entrepreneurship motivation. The results of the fractional polynomial estimation showed a difference from quadratic model in the responsiveness of start-ups to changes in the minimum wage. In the fractional polynomial regression result, if the minimum wage was lower than the level of maximizing start-ups, start-ups increased rapidly as the minimum wage increased. On the other hand, if the minimum wage is higher than the level of maximizing start-ups, it is predicted that start-ups will gradually decrease as the minimum wage increases. The results of this study show that it is necessary to use a regression model with a flexible functional form such as fractional polynomial in explaining possible nonlinear relationship between the dependent variable and the explanatory variable. 본 연구는 글로벌 기업가정신 모니터(GEM)의 창업 활동, 창업에 대한 개인적 인식 및 사회적 가치 자료와 OECD의 시간당 실질 최저임금 자료를 이용해 최저임금의 변화가 창업에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 표본 자료에서 관찰된 창업과 최저임금 간 비선형 관계를 설명하기 위해 우리는 다항식 모형의 유연성을 높인 분수 다항식(fractional polynomial) 회귀 모형을 사용하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면 최저임금의 2차 모형과 분수 다항식 모형에서 모두 창업과 최저임금은 역U자형 상관관계를 보였다. 분수 다항식 추정 결과에서 창업이 극대화되는 시간당 최저임금은 $6.3였는데, 시간당 최저임금이 $6.5 이상이었던 2016년 이후 우리나라에서는 최저임금의 인상이 창업 의욕을 위축시켰을 것이라고 추론할 수 있다. 분수 다항식 추정 결과는 최저임금 변화에 반응하는 창업의 변화 속도에서도 2차 모형과 차이를 보였다. 분수 다항식 회귀 결과에서 창업을 최대로 하는 수준보다 최저임금이 낮으면 최저임금이 증가함에 따라 창업이 빠르게 증가하였다. 반면 창업을 최대로 하는 수준보다 최저임금이 높으면 최저임금이 증가함에 따라 창업이 완만하게 감소할 것으로 예측되었다. 본 연구 결과는 종속변수와 설명변수 간 비선형 관계를 설명함에 있어 분수 다항식과 같이 유연한 함수 형태를 갖춘 회귀 모형을 이용할 필요가 있음을 보여준다.

『위대한 개츠비』: 구분 짓기 사회에서의 계층과 인종

This paper analyzes the representation of class and race in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby with the help of some key concepts provided by Thorstein Veblen and Pierre Bourdieu. Veblen criticizes the conspicuous consumption of the leisure class in that the cultural hegemony of the upper class affects people of every ladder of social classes. Gatsby’s romantic dream to recover Daisy is frustrated by the hard malice of the upper class people who prohibit an outsider from joining their class. Gatsby is unaware of the significance of what Bourdieu calls cultural and other capitals which distinguish the upper class in terms of lifestyles. Nick, the narrator, assumes the role of explaining to the readers the subtle differences between the classes in terms of cultural tastes and social manners. In this novel, a nativist backlash against immigration is reflected in white characters’ prejudices against Jews and other immigrants. In particular, the metaphor of class tends to be interchangeable with that of race, as Tom represents the upstart Gatsby as a black who passes as white. While Nick evidently criticizes the class barriers in America, he betrays his own share of prejudices against the racial and ethnic minorities. Nick finally chooses to return to his Midwestern home, the region which is culturally and ethnically homogeneous in contrast to the multiracial and multiethnic New York.

라이트와 볼드윈 : "항변소설" 논쟁을 중심으로

결론적으로 지적하려는 것은, 라이트와 볼드원이 영향력있는 흑인 작가들로서 자신들의 계층, 또는 흑인 공동체(community)에 대해서 느끼는 책임을 수행하지 않을 수 없었다는 사실이다. 작가와 그의 공동체와의 유기적 관계, 혹은 공동체에 대한 작가의 책임은 미국 흑인문학의 전통에 있어 특히 두드러진 현상이었다. 문학이 현실을 변화시키는 힘이 되어왔다는 전제를 받아들인다면, 미국 흑인문학은 인종차별의 부당한 현실을 부단히 고발하고 변화시키려고 노력했던 점에서 고유의 전통을 확립시켜왔다. 흑인작가들은 필연적으로 인종차별에 대한 투쟁에 있어 지도자의 역할을 담당해왔다. 19세기에 프레드릭 더글러스는 글을 깨우침으로써 자유에의 열망과 의지를 키웠었다 더글러스가 1845년 발표한 수기에서 밝히고 있듯이, 글의 힘을 통해서 그는 "흑인을 예속시키는 백인의 힘(the white man's power to enslave the black man)"의 본질을 간파했다(더글러스 49) 자신의 지적 재능을 개인적 자유와 자아실현을 위해서뿐만 아니라 전체 흑인들의 자유를 위해 더욱 창조적으로 썼다는 사실에서, 라이트와 볼드윈은 비록 형식적이고 체계적인 교육을 받은 의미에서의 "지식인"은 아니었지만, 그들 모두 작가로서 더글러스와 함께 흑인 문학의 전통 속에 자리잡고 있는 것이다.

최저임금의 변화가 창업에 미치는 효과 분석

본 연구는 GEM과 OECD의 2002~2020년 패널자료를 이용하여 시간당 실질 최저임금의 변화가 초기 창업활동에 참여하는 성인의 비중을 나타내는 TEA에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 다항식 모형의 유연성 제고를 위해 분수 다항식 회귀 모형을 사용하여 2차 회귀 모형과 분석결과를 비교하였다. 추정 결과에 따르면, 시간불변의 국가 특성이 통제된 상태에서 2차 회귀와 분수 다항식 회귀 모형 모두 창업과 최저임금 간에 역U자 형태의 상관관계가 존재함을 찾아냈다. 두 모형에서 창업과 최저임금의 상관관계 형태는 유사하였지만, 곡선의 꼭지 점 위치와 곡률에서는 차이를 보였다. 우선 창업이 극대화되는 시간당 최저임금 수준이 분수 다 항식 모형에서는 $5.3으로 2차 모형보다 $0.6 낮았다. 다음의 창업과 최저임금 간 상관관계의 부호가 동일하여도, 회귀 모형에 따라 최저임금 변화에 대한 창업의 반응 속도가 차이를 보였다. 구체적으로 분수 다항식 회귀 모형에서 최저임금이 꼭지점보다 낮은 수준에 있는 경우 최저임금상승에 따라 창업에 참여하는 성인의 비중이 2차 회귀 모형보다 빠르게 증가한다. 반면 최저임금이 꼭지점보다 높은 수준에 있는 경우 최저임금 상승에 따라 창업활동이 둔화되지만, 분수 다 항식 회귀 모형에서 창업이 2차 회귀 모형보다 완만하게 감소할 것으로 예측되었다.

Misogyny in Faulkner's Sanctuary

It seems almost impossible for readers not to encounter the influence of popular culture on Faulkner's most important works. By this remark, I do not simply mean that Faulkner's works were heavily influenced by the culture in which he lived; rather, I argue that the author's specific relation to popular culture determined the character of his works.1) Among others, Sanctuary strikes me as a perfect example that corroborates my argument that Faulkner imbibed and employed in his work the existing gender prejudices which abound in his culture.
