Vol.- No.104
The Tomb of King Muryeong is a brick-chamber tomb with an arch-shaped corridor connected to the center of the arched burial chamber. A two-day long excavation was conducted at the tomb site on July 8, 1971 with only 16 hours to carry out. The hasty excavation has left the unfortunate reality of tremendous loss of archaeological and historical facts. This paper explores the manufacturing method and structures of the wood coffin along with the burial method of the coffin into the chamber and the location of interment. The excavation report, plans and photographs of the tomb of King Muryeong were analyzed for this study. The excavation report of the tomb illustrates that the coffins are absent from bottom plates. The tomb collapsed in a short period of time which gradually disclosed its corpse boards. However, the existence of the bottom plates still remains unidentified. The excavation discovered 1279 nails from the site but it is perceived that none of them has been presumed to be used for bottom plates. In addition, the length of the narrow and row corridor is longer than that of the coffin. It must have made it difficult to lift and carry the coffins inside the corridor. Last, the corpse boards are almost equal to the coffins in size, making it impossible to place the corpse boards inside the coffins with lids open. The east plate of the king’s coffin and the west plate of queen’s coffin were found collapsed, respectively being placed close to the east and west barriers of the burial chamber. Judging from such state of the tomb, it is considered that the coffins were not placed at the center of the burial chamber with equidistant intervals but placed leaning to the barriers of the chamber. Considering the absence of bottom plates and the fact that the narrow and low corridor would make it difficult to carry the coffins through, it is suggested that the materials for the coffins were separately brought into the chamber, assembled to form the long and short sides of the coffins. Then, the corpse boards were pushed inside the coffins and then covered with lids. This implies that the coffins may not be buried in so called “lift-and-carry” manner. Based on this process, the burial ritual of the King Muryeong and the queen was restored. The Tomb of King Muryeong embodies cosmopolitan openness that it accepted the form of a brick-chamber tomb from the Southern dynasties of China. Meanwhile, the tomb shows distinct flexibility that overcame the variables yielded by the differences from ordinary funeral rituals of Baekje: A long, narrow and low corridor and the coffins without bottom plates were chosen to be built to respond to such differences. In conclusion, as seen from its construction and funeral ritual, the Tomb of King Muryeong is considered to share the internationality and flexibility prevalent in the culture of Baekje.

Vol.13 No.1
This case study investigated how students’ perceptions of and attitudes toward entrepreneurship would change when they had taken experiential entrepreneurial education with team formation, funding for prototyping, and provision of a variety of human resources. The aim of this study was to highlight various aspects of startup intentions that were reflected in the working experiences of cash class which was jointly operated by three university entrepreneurial centers in Seoul. In this study, the data were analyzed by pre-interviews with 14 college students who took part in the communal cache class via team activities and mentoring as well as in-depth written interviews at the end of class. First, the study found that students wanted to have a more hands-on experience and were more effective when the results were achieved. Second, it was confirmed that the degree of communication and collaborative relationships among the team members were influenced by active persistence in various activities. Third, the support money enabled more practical activities and a variety of start-up experiences which provided surrogate effects of real business experiences. Focusing on the team activities of students who were involved in a communal cache class, this case study found that the cache class provided the students with a sense of initiative that enabled to identify the impact of their start-up experience and change their activities, thus providing a sense of hands-on enterprise experience.
