홍구범은 2·30년대 선배 작가들의 소설을 충실히 이어받은 광복기 문단의 탁월한 신인작가였다. 질적으로나 양적으로 1940년대 후반 즉 광복기의 빛나는 업적이었다. 발표된 작품마다 작품들의 수준의 격차를 보이지 않는다. 몸은 우익 쪽에 담고 있었으나, 작품은 리얼리즘적 색채가 강했다. 광복 후 도시와 농촌의 무산자 계급의 순수성과 유산자 계급의 타락성의 대비라든가 치밀한 객관묘사 등이 뚜렷하여 작품으로만 보면 좌익쪽 문인이라 할 만큼 리얼리즘적이다. 그러나 리얼리즘적인 창작방법에 안주하지 않고 작품의 예술성에 깊이 천착한 작가였다. 민중적이되 계급주의의 이분법적 도식을 탈피하고, 현실적이되 철저히 소설이라는 장치에 녹여내었다. 그의 소설이 생명력이 긴 소설이라 판단되는 까닭이 여기에 있다. 동시대의 작가들에 비해서도 결코 문학성이 뒤지지 않는다. 홍구범의 소설로 해서 광복기 우리 소설문학은 더욱 풍성해졌다. 그러나 그는 주변인 취급을 받아 왔으며 아직까지 생사조차 모르고 있다. 같은 나이에 일제에 희생당한 윤동주가 민족의 희생양이었다면, 한국전쟁에 희생당한 홍구범도 민족의 희생양이었다. 두 사람 모두 민족의 희생양이었지만, 윤동주는 민족 시인으로 추앙받고 있으며, 홍구범은 그가 이루어놓은 업적조차 세상에 밝혀지지 않았다. 그가 이루어놓은 업적을 모으고 연구하여 그를 세상에 알려야 할 일은 우리들의 몫으로 남아 있다. Hong Gu Beom was a new writer in all his splendor whose writing style followed that of seniors during the 1920s and 1930s. It was a brilliant achievement quantitatively as well as qualitatively of the Independence Period in the late 1940s. There are not of any difference in the level of each work published in the day. He belonged to the right wing literary field, but his works were dominated by the image of realism. After independence, the contrast between the innocence of urban and rural proletarian classes and the corruption of the bourgeois ones, and so objective description were obvious in his novels, which made him seem realistic enough to look like such a left wing writer. Not staying the realism, he got more deeply into artistic merits in the works, though. He moved away from the dichotomy between popularity and class principle, writing the way it was completely with the literary device, novel. That`s why his novels are being considered as popular to this day. In terms of literary value, his works are never behind those of contemporary writers. Rather, Hong Gu Beom`s novels have enriched the literary circles of the Independence Period. However, he has been treated as a marginal man, consequently, it is not yet clear whether he is alive or not. Of an age, Yoon Dong-Joo would be assessed as an ethnic scapegoat under Japanese imperialism, so should Hong Gu Beom. While Yoon Dong-Joo is admired as an ethnic poet, what Hong Gu Beom achieved still has not been unknown. It is our share to gather and work on his accomplishment, and give it wider publicity.
In the 1990's, there is manifested to signify the mode of postmodernism culture as post-industry culture's grammar. It conjured up two worlds: destruction and populism. The destruction of boundaries, as it were, it means that boundaries of every division are broken up into be blurred each other. There symptoms of ending the 20th century rushed into this period when there is the atmosphere of being mixed wandering, chaos, depression and vanity. This change in the 1990's resulted in the new change in the face of Korea culture and art as well as life style. the following works occurred in this period: 「When Adam opens his eyes」written by Jang Jung-il, 「who can say who I am」written by Lee In-Hwa and 「Sorrow of man yet alive」written by Park Il-mun. These works expressed the symptoms of postmodernism or ending the 20th century very well. We should examine three characters. First meta-fictious writing in level of novels' form: It has the character of boundlessness between inner position and exterior aspect as the fiction format which the novelist makes. Because it starts to recognize the impossibility of division between what the real is and what the fiction is or what being should be and what being is. This statement is the same situation where there is no illusion of division between trueness and untrueness. Thus these novels are born as overthrowing the traditional novel's grammar which has the rational form. Secondly, dealing with motivation on cutting and fragment: Exception the front part-cutting from the traditional writing, another thing is to cut from the moral standard norm of the society. The traditional writing is focused into the centerlism of the rational writing, while this period's writing is focused into the fragment of the emotional writing. For Example, the characters in these works have no relationship each other, have no weaving into the objective world and wander about alone. At last, the pastiche-issues as a rule of postmodernism grammar: Even though postmodernism methods and techniques give rise to something like the pastiche, the writers made the imitation version, not the patiche version and then their works have the clues to be hurried construction and to be devalued them as a fastfood
