Objective Underconnectivity in the resting brain is not consistent in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, it is known that the functional connectivity of the default mode network is mainly decreased in childhood ASD. This study investigated the brain network topology as the changes in the connection strength and network efficiency in childhood ASD, including the early developmental stages. Methods In this study, 31 ASD children aged 2–11 years were compared with 31 age and sex-matched children showing typical development. We explored the functional connectivity based on graph filtration by assessing the single linkage distance and global and nodal efficiencies using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. The relationship between functional connectivity and clinical scores was also analyzed. Results Underconnectivities within the posterior default mode network subregions and between the inferior parietal lobule and inferior frontal/superior temporal regions were observed in the ASD group. These areas significantly correlated with the clinical phenotypes. The global, local, and nodal network efficiencies were lower in children with ASD than in those with typical development. In the preschool-age children (2–6 years) with ASD, the anterior-posterior connectivity of the default mode network and cerebellar connectivity were reduced. Conclusion The observed topological reorganization, underconnectivity, and disrupted efficiency in the default mode network subregions and social function-related regions could be significant biomarkers of childhood ASD.

Glucosinolates (GLS) are secondary metabolites commonly occurring in Brassica crops and more than 130 different GLS have been reported in diverse plants. Recent studies have indicated that isothiocyanate (ITC) derived from GLS by hydrolysis had a potential for anticancer activity against several rumor cells on human. In addition, it was found that glucoraphenin (GRE) and glucoraphasatin (GRH) were abundant and differently regulated in radish plant, depending upon organs and developmental stages. Microspores isolated from flower buds of radish were cultured in vitro to obtain doubled haploid (DH; but homozygous) lines in a short time period. The present study was conducted to determine the concentration of GRE and GRH, an immediate precursor of ITC from DH lines of radish plant. Total 41 DH lines were selected based on flow cytometry analysis. The seeds, obtained by bud pollination from the DH lines, were planted and 3-weeks-old young seedlings were used for the major aliphatic GLS analysis. Amounts of GRH were highly variable from the DH lines ranging from 2.3 to 31.5 mg·g-1 dry weight (DW). The donor plant (DP) contained 18.4 mg·g-1 DW. It was noticed that there were 6-fold differences in the amounts of GRE between the highest and lowest DH lines. Among 41 lines tested, 14 DH lines of radish plant were significantly reduced in the amount of sum of GRH and GRE compared those of the donor plant (P<0.05), whereas only three lines increased. The results obtained in the present study will lend to select genotypes with low and high GLS contents of radish plant. In addition, those DH lines will aid to elucidate a biosynthetic pathway of the aliphatic GLS in radish plant, which remain for the most part unsolved.

We estimate the reddening and distance of the nearest starburst galaxy IC 10 using deep near-infrared JHK(S) photometry obtained with the Multi-Object InfraRed Camera and Spectrograph (MOIRCS) on the Subaru telescope. We estimate the foreground reddening toward IC 10 using the UBV photometry of IC 10 from the Local Group Survey, obtaining E(B - V) = 0.52 +/- 0.04 mag. We derive the total reddening including the internal reddening, E(B - V) = 0.98 +/- 0.06 mag, using the UBV photometry of early-type stars in IC 10 and comparing the JHK(S) photometry of red giant branch stars in IC 10 and the Small Magellanic Cloud. Using the Two Micron All Sky Survey point-source catalog of 20 Galactic globular clusters, we derive a relation between the metallicity [Fe/H](CG97) and the slope of the red giant branch in the K-S - (J - K-S) color - magnitude diagram. The mean metallicity of the red giant branch stars in IC 10 is estimated to be [Fe/H](CG97) = -1.08 +/- 0.28. The magnitude of the tip of the red giant branch (TRGB) of IC 10 in the K-S band is measured to be K-S,K-TRGB = 18.28 +/- 0.01. Based on the TRGB method, we estimate the distance modulus of IC 10 to be (m - M)(0) = 24.27 +/- 0.03 (random) +/- 0.18 (systematic), corresponding to the distance of d = 715 +/- 10 +/- 60 kpc. This confirms that IC 10 is a member of the Local Group.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and pattern of recurrence of bevacizumab and chemotherapy in persistent, recurrent, or metastatic cervical cancer. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 1) patients with persistent, recurrent, or metastatic cervical cancer treated at SNUH from 2014.4 to 2018.2 and 2) all patients for treatment with cisplatin plus paclitaxel and bevacizumab every 3 weeks until disease progression or unacceptable toxic effect or complete response. Results: Of 57 patients, 36 (63%) patients had recurrent disease, 7(12.3%) patients had persistent and 14 (24.6%) had metastatic disease at treatment. The prior exposition to platinum was 29 (50.9%). Grade 3 or 4 adverse events possibly related to bevacizumab included hypertension (n= 3, 5.3%), febrile neutropenia (n= 4, 7%), or fistula (n=1, 1.8%). During follow-up, there were 21 deaths(36.8%) and 24 recurrence (42.1%) (distant n=10, 41.7%, locoregional n=13, 54.2%, or peritoneal seeding n=5, 20.8%), nodal(n=10, 41.7%). The median PFS and OS were 6.64 and 18.20 months, respectively. Conclusion: This study can provide useful information about clinical efficacy and recurrence pattern of bevacizumab combined with chemotherapy about patients with recurrent, persistent or metastatic cervical cancer.

Rainfall has recently begun to show different properties in space and time. In particular, although localized heavy rainfall is frequent, rain gauges on the ground can only observe rainfall at one point. In other words, ground-based rain gauges have limitations in spatial and temporal resolution for measuring rainfall. As a result, there is a need to utilize radar rainfall measurements that can consider the spatial distribution of the change in rainfall based on the direction of the storm. In this study, we tried to apply radar rainfall for a runoff simulation of an urban drainage system. The study area was Guro-gu, Seoul City, Korea, and we divided the study area into sub-basins based on the rain gauge network of the AWS (Automatic Weather Station). Then, the radar rainfall data were adjusted using the rainfall data of the rain gauge stations, and the areal rainfall amounts were obtained. The runoffs were simulated using the XP-SWMM model in the sub-basins of an urban drainage system. As a result, the adjusted radar rainfalls underestimated the ground-based measurement data by 60 to 95%. Therefore, differences in runoffs simulated by the adjusted radar and the gauge rainfall amounts are found. The peak runoff time from the radar rainfall occurred earlier than that from the gauge rainfall. This result is due to the fact that the radar rainfall can reflect the spatial variability of the rainfall in time by taking into consideration the movement of a storm.

The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency with which exercise specialist address certain psychological issues related to injury and non-injury related psychological issues with their athletes or patients, their attitude to deal with psychological issues, and referral patterns to other mental health professionals. A hundred clinical exercise specialists who educate exercise rehabilitation of the injured athletes were participated and data from 60 persons were analyzed. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS (version 18.0 for windows). Exercise specialist (ES) group reported frequently encountering psychological issues more related to injury than unrelated to injury in athletes and patients. Furthermore, ES believed it was their role to address injury more than non-injury-related psychological issues with athletes and patients. Less experienced ES reported slightly less competent and much less comfortable with psychological skills than more experienced ES. The current findings suggest that ES encounter and discuss psychological issues during rehabilitation frequently. Clinical implications regarding the dealing with psychological issues during the rehabilitation were discussed.
