The pine sawyer Monochamus alternatus Hope (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is a serious pest of several Pinus species, and the ectoparasitoid larvae of Dastarcus helophoroides (Fairmaire) (Coleoptera: Bothrideridae) is an important natural enemy of this pest. The transcriptome of M. alternatus larvae was sequenced using the Illumina platform and immunity‐related genes were specifically analyzed. De novo assembly resulted in the identification of 24 241 unigenes, with a mean length of 1122 bp, in unparasitized M. alternatus larvae and 23 807 unigenes, with a mean length of 1140 bp, for parasitized larvae. Removal of redundant unigenes resulted in 26 095 all‐unigenes, of which 16 959 (64.99%) showed clear homology with some of the known genes in the National Center for Biotechnology Information nr database. Parasitization had notable effects on the transcriptome profile of M. alternatus larvae. In all, 2702 genes were differentially expressed in M. alternatus larvae after parasitization, with 1491 (55.18%) upregulated and 1211 (44.82%) downregulated. Moreover, expression levels of immunity‐related genes in M. alternatus larvae were markedly altered in response to parasitization by D. helophoroides. In conclusion, the transcriptome profiling data, especially the discovered of immunity‐related genes, help illustrate the molecular mechanisms of parasitism between D. helophoroides and M. alternatus and provide new insights into developing immunity regulation‐mediated control methods of M. alternatus.

Monochamus alternatus is a destructive stem‐boring herbivore of Pinus massoniana, and the principal vector of pine wood nematode. To investigate the impacts of boring by M. alternatus larvae on the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from their host trees, the VOCs from uninfested and M. alternatus larvae infested P. massoniana trees were observed using a gas chromatograph–mass spectrometer. We detected 12, 9, 18 and 14 volatile organic compounds from infested xylem, infested phloem, uninfested xylem and uninfested phloem, respectively. In P. massoniana xylem, the boring of M. alternatus larvae induced cyclosativene, and inhibited 4‐carene, humulene, styrene, α‐phellandrene, β‐myrcene, β‐phellandrene and γ‐terpinene. The relative amounts of camphene, copacamphene, longicyclene, longifolene, tricyclene and α‐longipinene were significantly increased, and the relative amounts of α‐pinene and β‐pinene were significantly decreased by the boring behaviors of M. alternatus larvae. In P. massoniana phloem, the boring of M. alternatus larvae induced 2‐bornanone, copacamphene, longicyclene and α‐longipinene, and inhibited 2‐carene, 4‐carene, styrene, α‐phellandrene, β‐myrcene, β‐phellandrene, β‐pinene, γ‐terpinene and ο‐cymene. The relative amounts of camphene, caryophyllene and longifolene were significantly increased by the boring behaviors of M. alternatus larvae. The results indicate that the boring behaviors of M. alternatus larvae changed both the sorts and contents of the VOCs from P. massoniana trees.

Recently, there has been a growing body of evidence showing that cellular microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in virus-host interactions. Numerous studies have focused on analyses of the expression profiles of cellular miRNAs, but the expression patterns of Dicer, which is responsible for the generation of miRNAs, have only rarely been explored in Gallus gallus. We developed a duplex realtime reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RTPCR) assay for the relative quantification of the mRNAs of Dicer and β-actin in G. gallus. To apply this method, the expression of Dicer in avian cells after infection with avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J) was detected using our established duplex real-time RT-PCR. The duplex realtime RT-PCR assay is sufficiently sensitive, specific, accurate, reproducible, and cost-effective for the detection of Dicer in G. gallus. Furthermore, this study, for the first time, demonstrated that ALV-J can induce differential expression of Dicer mRNA in the ALV-J-infected cells.

Aims: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified several risk variants for prostate cancer (pCa) mainly in Europeans, which need to be further verified in other racial groups. We selected six previously identified variants as candidates and to define the association with PCa in Northern Han Chinese. Methods: 749 subjects from Beijing and Tianjin in Northern China were included. Six variants (rs10505474, rs7837328, rs4242384, rs7813, rs486907 and rs1058205) were genotyped by high resolution melting (HRM) assays. The individual and cumulative contribution for of the risk of PCa and clinical covariates were analyzed. Results: Among the six candidate variants, onlyrs10505474, and rs7837328, both locating at 8q24 region, were associated with PCa in our population.rs10505474 (A) was associated with PCa ($OR_{recessive}=1.56$, p=0.006); and rs7837328 (A) was associated with PCa ($OR_{dominant}=1.38$, p=0.042/$OR_{recessive}=1.99$, p=0.003). Moreover, we observed a cumulative effects between them ($p_{trend}=2.58{\times}10^{-5}$). The joint population attributable risk showed the two variants might account for 71.85% of PCa risk. In addition, we found the homozygotes of rs10505474 (A) and rs7837328 (A) were associated with PCa clinical covariants (age at onset, tumor stage, respectively) ($p_{age}=0.046$, $P_{tumorstage}=0.048$). Conclusion: rs10505474 (A) and rs7387328 (A) at 8q24 are associated with PCa and cumulatively confer risk, suggesting the two variations could determine susceptibility to PCa in the Northern Chinese Han population.

A high-performance indium oxide (In 2 O 3 )-based thin-film transistor (TFT) was prepared with aluminum oxide/fluorinated self-assembled monolayer (Al 2 O 3 /F-SAM) double-gate dielectric layer. The Al 2 O 3 /F-SAM double gate dielectric layer improved the performance of the In 2 O 3 -based TFT by reducing the device leakage current. In addition, devices with a double-gate dielectric layer show improved stability under negative bias stress testing compared to devices with a single gate dielectric layer (Al 2 O 3 ), shifting a threshold voltage by only 0.4 V. These results suggest that the Al 2 O 3 /F-SAM doublelayer gate dielectric layer can enhance the performance of In 2 O 3 -based TFTs. Furthermore, it can be used to improve the performance of other metal oxide-based devices by minimizing the leakage current at low operating voltages at low cost.

Follow the Leader: Cross-Industry Herding in Earnings Management
Lin xiao Liu,Michael R Williams,Jennifer Yin 사람과세계경영학회 2014 Global Business and Finance Review Vol.19 No.1
We employ Vector Autoregressions and quarterly financial statement data to explicitly test for both own- and cross-industry earnings management "spillovers". We find that earnings management behavior can transmit from one industry to another, similar industry. Further, we find an indirect, information-based channel whereby earnings management information may reach less-related industries with a lag of about six months. These results provide initial evidence that managers within similar industries "herd" in their discretionary accrual strategies. That is, earnings management in one sub-industry classification provides an informative signal to other industries. Others, then, follow suit by adopting like strategies either for competitive parity or purely wealth-maximizing purposes. In addition, we find that earnings management is persistent and does not mean-revert. Thus, earnings management can have long-term permanent impacts on a firm and its financial statements. This paper presents both methodological and policy implications for the academic accounting literature.

This paper mainly considers the distributed containment control problem for continuous-time fractionalorder multi-agent systems (FOMASs) with double-integrator, where the control input of each agent is constrained to lie in a nonconvex set. A distributed projection containment control algorithm is designed for each follower. To finish the convergence analysis, the original closed-loop system is first changed into an equivalent one by a proper model transformation and the method of the L1 interpolation approximation is introduced to deal with the projection operator. Then, by using the properties of the convex hull and the Mittag-Leffler function, it is shown that the largest distance between the followers and the convex hull spanned by leaders tends to zero asymptotically, while all agents’ control inputs are constrained to stay in their corresponding nonconvex constraint sets. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical results.
