Relationship Implications of Giving Medical Service Users Sense of Control
( Lee¸ Jungki ) 경희대학교 경영연구원 2021 의료경영학연구 Vol.15 No.1
This study explores an alternative mechanism in which relationship drivers such as customer satisfaction, gratitude and engagement behavior are established among medical service users. Characterizing medical service encounters as potentially stressful events, this study proposes and empirically examines medical service customers’ perceived control as a promising factor that may improve their overall healthcare experiences. The study adopts a research model and a set of hypotheses in an attempt to examine the implications of giving healthcare customers control upon their service experiences. Data collection was implemented by a professional research company located in South Korea. Findings of the study reveal the importance of having customers feel a sense of control during their healthcare experience, as perceived control turns out to exert both direct and indirect influences upon their satisfaction, gratitude, and engagement behavior. Such findings of the study provide new insights for the practitioners and academics to establish and strengthen long-term relationships with medical customers.

Laser sealing with glass frits appears a promising technology for sealing various electronic devices (e.g., solar cells, displays) due to its several advantages. The purpose of this study is to understand the relationship between the composition of glasses and their laser-heating conditions. To allow glass to be sealed using laser heating, CuO was added to two different glass systems, in different amounts. The optical absorptivity of the glass samples was related directly to their CuO content. The laser-heating temperature and the CuO content exhibited a proportional relationship. Furthermore, the heating temperature increased linearly with the laser power used. From these results, we could determine the appropriate laser-heating conditions and CuO content for sealing electronic devices using laser-sealing technology.

<▼1><P>A missense mutation of <I>KARRIKIN-INSENSITIVE2</I>, <I>KAI2</I><I>ply2</I>, compromises its ligand-binding activity, which subsequently impairs KAI2-signaling and multiple aspects of light-dependent responses.</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A smoke-derived compound, karrikin (KAR), and an endogenous but as yet unidentified KARRIKIN INSENSITIVE2 (KAI2) ligand (KL) have been identified as chemical cues in higher plants that impact on multiple aspects of growth and development. Genetic screening of light-signaling mutants in <I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I> has identified a mutant designated as <I>ply2</I> (<I>pleiotropic long hypocotyl2</I>) that has pleiotropic light-response defects. In this study, we used positional cloning to identify the molecular lesion of <I>ply2</I> as a missense mutation of <I>KAI2</I>/<I>HYPOSENSITIVE TO LIGHT</I>, which causes a single amino acid substitution, Ala219Val. Physiological analysis and genetic epistasis analysis with the KL-signaling components <I>MORE AXILLARY GROWTH2</I> (<I>MAX2</I>) and <I>SUPPRESSOR OF MAX2 1</I> suggested that the pleiotropic phenotypes of the <I>ply2</I> mutant can be ascribed to a defect in KL-signaling. Molecular and biochemical analyses revealed that the mutant KAI2ply2 protein is impaired in its ligand-binding activity. In support of this conclusion, X-ray crystallography studies suggested that the <I>KAI2</I><I>ply2</I> mutation not only results in a narrowed entrance gate for the ligand but also alters the structural flexibility of the helical lid domains. We discuss the structural implications of the Ala219 residue with regard to ligand-specific binding and signaling of KAI2, together with potential functions of KL-signaling in the context of the light-regulatory network in <I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I>.</P></▼2>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A Volume Integral Equation Method (VIEM) is introduced for the solution of elastostatic problems in an unbounded isotropic elastic solid containing interacting multiple isotropic and anisotropic circular/elliptical inclusions subject to remote antiplane shear. This method is applied to two-dimensional problems involving long parallel cylindrical inclusions. A detailed analysis of the stress field at the interface between the matrix and the central inclusion is carried out for square and hexagonal packing of isotropic and anisotropic inclusions. The effects of the number of isotropic and anisotropic inclusions and various fiber volume fractions on the stress field at the interface between the matrix and the central circular/elliptical inclusion are also investigated in detail. The accuracy of the method is validated by solving single isotropic and orthotropic circular/elliptical inclusion problems and multiple isotropic circular and elliptical inclusion problems for which solutions are available in the literature.</P>

This study explores an intricacy between cultural character and consumer ethics. The study investigates the South Korean public’s perceptions of a set of 12 scenarios describing ethically questionable consumer actions. The scenarios include illegal actions such as fraudulently inflating one’s losses when filing an insurance claim and legal, but questionable actions such as showrooming. The 12 scenarios exhibited a wide range of mean responses, supporting the commonly-stated premise that consumer ethics is situational in nature. Furthermore, the results document a relationship between the acceptance of ethically questionable behaviors and the extent of monetary loss incurred by the victimized organization.
