Vol.32 No.4
The orthogonality is an important property in the experimental designs. When we use nearly orthogonal arrays, we need evaluate the degree of the orthogonality of given experimental designs. Graphical methods for evaluating the degree of the orthogonality of nearly orthogonal arrays are suggested.
Vol.27 No.4
It is common to check the validity of an assumed model with the heavy use of diagnostics tools when conducting data analysis with regression techniques; however, outliers and influential data points often distort the regression output in undesired manner. Jang and Anderson-Cook (2013) proposed a graphical method called a firework plot for exploratory analysis that could visualize the trace of the impact of possible outlying and/or influential data points on individual regression coefficients and the overall residual sum of squares(SSE) measure. They developed 3-D plot as well as pair-wise plot for the appropriate measures of interest. In this paper, the approach was extended further to tell the strength of their approach; in addition, a more meaningful interpretation was possible by adding a measure not mentioned in their paper. This approach was applied to the mixture experiment because we felt that a detailed analysis of statistical measure sensitivity is required in a small experiment.
Graphical Methods for Evaluating the Degree of the Orthogonal Blocking
Vol.17 No.3
When using response surface designs, the experimental trials should be carried out in blocks in case of heterogeneity of conditions. When we use nearly orthogonal blocking, we need evaluate the degree of orthogonal blocking. Graphical methods for evaluating the degree of orthogonal blocking are suggested.
A Graphical Method for Evaluating Mixture Designs with respect to the Slope
Jang, Dae-Heung,Na, Ho-Jun The Korean Society for Quality Management Vol.23 No.2
Good estimation of the slopes of the mixture response function may be important as well as estimation of mean mixture response. It is possible to evaluate and compare several mixture designs with respect to the slope. A graphical method is proposed that allows us to evaluate a given design's support for the fitted model in terms of slope variance. We can plot variances of slopes along Cox direction according to existence of restriction of simplex region when comparing several different mixture designs.

Outliers can distort many measures in data analysis and statistical modeling, and influential points can have disproportionate impact on the estimated values of model parameters. Jang and Anderson-Cook [1] proposed a new set of graphical summaries, called firework plots, as simple tools for evaluating the impact of outliers and influential points in regression. Variations of the plots focus on allowing visualization of the impact on the estimated parameters and variability. In the generalized linear models analysis setting, the impact of changing model parameters is often less transparent than in the linear model setting and variability can be captured with the deviance. Hence, this paper describes how 3-D firework plots and the pairwise firework plot matrix can be used to increase understanding of contributions of individual observations and as a complement to other regression diagnostics techniques in the generalized linear models setting. Using these firework plots, we can find outliers and influential points and their impact on model parameters. We illustrate the information and understanding gain possible with several examples.

In many application of response surface methodology, good estimation of the derivatives of the response function may be as important or perhaps more important than estimation of mean response. Using a graphical method, we have studied the effect of outliers, missing observations, and design augmentation with respect to the slope estimation in the response surf ace designs.
A Peronal Biofeedback Mental Training System Based on Relaxation Response
Dae-Geun Jang,Dae-Heung Son,Seung-Hun Park,Min-Soo Hahn 대한전자공학회 2009 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2009 No.7
Just as physical training improves body abilities, mental training has positive conditioning effects for people of all ages. Many old exercise instruments, however, only focused on improvement of physical abilities. In addition, most of the recently developed mental training system provide monotonous training protocols, without any reflection of subject’s physiological status. In order to solve this lack of mental training system and to serve various mental training protocols, which reflect the physiological factors, we developed a mental training system based on the concept of relaxation response. In our developed mental training system, there are two main parameters to represent subject’s physiological status: pulse rate and respiratory rate. These two parameters are responsible for Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), which controls functions in the body which normally occur unconsciously. From this fact, we have intended to balance the ANS through the control of subject’s breathing habit. We used a red-LED typed biosensor to detect pulse wave and to estimate breath wave. In order to evaluate respiratory wave, we have applied the pulse envelope detection technique and beat-to-beat heart rate variability. We have assessed this algorithm whether it agrees with real breath rate or not. From the experimental results, we have concluded that our estimated respiratory rate approximately agrees with real breath rate and thus our system can be used as a mental training system through balancing the ANS by controlling subject’s respiratory rate.
Piecewise Continuous Linear Density Estimator
Vol.16 No.4
The piecewise linear histogram can be used as a simple and efficient tool for the density estimator. But, this piecewise linear histogram is discontinuous function. We suppose the piecewise continuous linear histogram as a simple and efficient tool for the density estimator and the alternative of the piecewise linear histogram.
Slope-Rotatability in Axial Directions for Second Order Response Surface Designs
Jang Dae-Heung The Korean Statistical Society 2005 Communications for statistical applications and me Vol.12 No.1
Hader and Park(l978) suggested the concept of slope-rotatability in axial directions for second order response surface designs. In this paper, the moment conditions for slope-rotatability in axial directions are shown and the measures for evaluating slope-rotatability in axial directions are proposed.
