No effective antiviral therapy is proven yet, but clinical use of ribavirin (RBV) has been tried. We investigated the antiviral effect of RBV against SFTSV in vitro. Methods: To test for cytotoxicity of RBV, Vero cells were treated with different concentrations of RBV (3.90 to 500 μg/mL, two-fold dilution) and analyzed by cell viability MTS assay 48h post-infection. To determine antiviral activity of RBV against SFTSV, Vero cells were infected with SFTSV strain Gangwon/Korea/2012 at 100 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose) per well in a 96-well plate, and RBV was added at the concentrations showing no or minimal cytotoxicity. Viral RNAs were extracted from the culture supernatants and quantifi ed using one-step real-time reverse transcription- PCR to amplify the partial large segment of SFTSV. Statistical analysis was done by one-way ANOVA with Tukey`s post hoc test. Results: Cytotoxicity due to RBV was not observed at RBV concentration =31.3 μg/ mL. Viral RNAs at 24h post-RBV treatment were reduced with increasing RBV concentrations (1-32 μg/mL), compared with those of mock-treated cells (P <0.01, Figure). Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of RBV was 3.69 μg/mL at 24h post-RBV treatment. Conclusions: Our study shows that RBV has antiviral effect against SFTSV in a dose-dependent manner. Further studies are required to evaluate the effi cacy of RBV in SFTS.

        등치관법이 배수관망 해석에 미치는 영향

        In this study, the errors caused by improper application of equivalent pipe method on analysis of network were investigated. Especially, the errors related to selection of C-coefficients, pipe lengths, pipe diameters and flow rates were focused. To reduce errors caused by applying equivalent pipe method in network analysis, both C-coefficient of each parallel pipe and large flow rate variation in the parallel pipes between connected junctions should be considered. Results of this study are as follows. When the different C-coefficients of each parallel pipe was not considered, the application of equivalent pipe method caused 47.84% error in headloss and 24.75% error in pipe flow in model network. Also, When large flow rate variation existed in the parallel pipes between connected junctions, equivalent pipe method caused 51.61% error in headloss.

        This paper presents a method for calculating contact force of any shaped rigid bodies on plane. Every integration time step, the proposed method finds expected contact point on their outlines and then calculates penetration and contact force. This paper is using the continuous analysis method to calculate contact force. To get the accurate expected contact point on their outlines the new algorithm is developed. Through the comparison with DADS, we can prove the accuracy of the proposed algorithm.

        The moisture inside the coolant and moderator system areas of Candu-type nuclear power plant is recycled to prevent the value deuterium to being lost and the harm of tritium form being spread to the natural environment. The deuterium is separated from the moisture by the successive processes such as adsorption and desorption on molecular sieve, cooling with water purification with activated carbon filer, ion exchange, and evaporation in the deuterium recovery system that consists of dryers, storage tank. filter, three ion exchange bed, evaporators, and upgrader. The water collected in the dryers in transformed from the kinds of moisture generated inside the primary system of nuclear plant and supplied with the fresh air. In addition, hydrazine can be included in the moisture such that the water might be alkaline. Unexpectedly, the solution in the storage tank followed from dryers is acidic and the deuterium water collected in the upgrader is also acidic in Wolsung nuclear unit 1. The concentration of chloride is about 500 ppm and pH is 3.8 in the storage tanks of dryers, while the white precipitation of aluminum and silica oxides exist to some degree before filter and to fair extent after ion exchange bed. Hydrazine and its derivative, ammonia are not high(less than 1ppm). Concentration of chloride was source of salt include in the fresh air. The sources of aluminum and silica oxides were products thermally decomposed from molecular sieve. The impurities decrease the removal efficiency of filtration and ion exchange and shorten sieve. In this case the chloride can be transferred to the upgrager in which the packing material, copper might be corroded. Therefore the fresh air should be treated completely to remove the salt. The capacity of the activated carbon filter in the purification system might be increased.

        인슐린종에 의한 측두엽 간질 발작 1례

        저자들은 50대 여성에서 인슐린종에 의해 발생한 간질 발작에서 인슐린종의 제거 이후, 저혈당이 교정된 상태에서도 지속적인 이상 뇌파를 보인 예를 경험하였다. 환자는 간질 발작 이외에 저혈당의 일반적인 증상인 두통, 진전, 발한, 창백, 심계 항진 등을 거의 보이지 않아 오랫동안 측두엽 간질로 진단되어 항전간제를 사용하였다. 뇌파에서 좌측 측두엽에 이상을 보였고 인슐린종을 성공적으로 제거하고 저혈당이 교정되어 간질이 소실되었는데도 뇌파의 이상 소견이 지속되었다. 본 증례에서 혈당의 농도가 낮은데도 불구하고 환자가 전혀 저혈당의 증상을 느끼지 못하였다. 낮은 혈당에서도 glycosy Hb A1c의 농도가 정상에 가까워 뇌의 glucose uptake 가 유지되고 sympathoadrenal activation 과 counteregu-latory hormones으 반응이 감쇠되는 경우가 있다고 한다. 본 증례에서도 glycosy Hb A1c가 4.0%로 정상에 가까웠다. 저혈당에 의한 간질의 기전에 대하여서 간질의 역치를 감소시킨다는 설과 국소적인 뇌의 산소 소모를 감소시킨다는 설이 있어왔다. 최근에는 국소적인 뇌손상이 간질 유발의 원인이라는 설이 우세한데 excitotoxic mechanism으로 설명되고 있다. 증례에서 뇌파의 이상소견이 지속되었던 것은 국소적인 뇌 손상의 기전과 일치하는 결과로 생각되며 지속적인 뇌파의 추적 관찰이 필요할 것으로 여겨진다. Authors experienced a case of insulinoma which was initially misdiagnosed as idopathic tem-poral lobe epilepsy with automatism. This patients did not show other hypoglycemic symptoms except seizure. It has been reported that some of the patients with insulinoma are unaware of hypoglycemia and are at increased risk for seizures and coma. These patients would have normal glucose uptake in the brain and consequently no sympathoadrenal activation would begin, resulting in an awareness of hypoglycemia. It this case, abnomal EEG pattern consistent with a complex partial seizure remained after successful operation. Recent reports indicate that hypoglycemia is capable of killing neurons in the brain . An endogenous neurtoxin is produced and is released by the brain into tissue and cerebrospinal fluid. Endogenous excitotoxins produced during hypoglycemia may explain the tendency toward seizure activity often seen clinically. We suggest that persistent abnormalities of EEG in this case may be related to focal neuronal damage in hypoglycemia.
