Conductive metal matrix composite(MMC) material of 30% silicon carbide particulate based on aluminum matrix was machined by die sinking electrical discharge machining(EDM) process according to different current and duty factor for reverse polarity of electrode. Material removal rate(MRR) was examined by process under various operating conditions. The surface morphology was evaluated by surface roughness parameter and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) research. The MRR was suddenly increased over 11 ampere of current, and it was slightly changed over 0.3 of duty factor. The maximum surface roughness of EDMed surface was affected by the duty factor. The SEM photographs of EDMed surface showed wide recast distribution region of melting materials as increased of current and duty factor.

Human osteosarcoma usually presented a high tendency to metastatic spread and caused poor outcomes, however, the underlying mechanism was still largely unknown. In the present study, using a series of in vitro experiments and an animal model, we investigated the roles of HOX antisense intergenic RNA (HOTAIR) during the proliferation and invasion of osteosarcoma. According with our results, HOTAIR was commonly overexpressed in osteosarcoma, which significantly correlated with advanced tumor stage, highly histological grade and poor prognosis. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that knockdown of HOTAIR could notably suppress cellular proliferation, inhibit invasion and decrease the secretion of MMP2 and MMP9 in osteosarcoma. Collectively, our results suggested that HOTAIR might be a potent therapeutic target for osteosarcoma.

The endoparasitic nematophagous fungus, Esteya vermicola, has shown great potential as a biological control agent against the pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus. Fluctuating culture temperatures can affect fungal yields and fungal tolerance to desiccation, UV radiation, H2O2, and heat stress, as well as antioxidase expression. To explore these effects, E. vermicola cultured under five temperature ranges, 26°C, 15–26°C, 26–35°C, 20–30°C, and 15–35°C, were compared. The cultures grown at lower temperatures showed better growth, stronger tolerance to desiccation, UV, and H2O2 stresses, and increased catalase expression, However, these cultures also showed weaker heat stress tolerance and lower superoxide dismutase expression than the higher-temperature cultures. In particular, the E. vermicola cultured at 20–30°C, i.e., fluctuating in a narrow range around the optimal temperature, showed the best performance. Therefore, for production in practical applications, this narrowly fluctuating, moderate temperature appears to be optimal for yield and stress tolerance in E. vermicola.

The flexible functional surface is obtained by integrating both soft-lithography and crystal growth methods. Modified by the materials with low surface free energy, the composite surface exhibits a robust superhydrophobicity at not only room temperature but also low temperature. Background/Aims: Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a frequent cause of pediatric liver disease; however, the data on DILI are remarkably limited. Methods: All 69 children hospitalized with DILI between January 2009 and December 2011 were retrospectively studied. Results: A total of 37.7% of the children had medical histories of respiratory infection. The clinical injury patterns were as follows: hepatocellular 89.9%, cholestatic 2.9%, and mixed 7.2%. Liver biopsies from 55 children most frequently demonstrated chronic (47.3%) and acute (27.3%) hepatitis. Hypersensitivity features, namely, fever (31.9%), rash (21.7%), and eosinophilia (1.4%), were found. Twenty-four children (34.8%) developed chronic DILI. Antibiotics (26.1%) were the most common Western medicines (WMs) causing DILI, and the major implicated herbs were Ephedra sinica and Polygonum multiflorum. Compared with WM, the children whose injuries were caused by Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) showed a higher level of total bilirubin (1.4 mg/dL vs 16.6 mg/dL, p=0.004) and a longer prothrombin time (11.8 seconds vs 17.3 seconds, p=0.012), but they exhibited less chronic DILI (2/15 vs 18/39, p=0.031). Conclusions: Most cases of DILI in children are caused by antibiotics or CHM used to treat respiratory infection and present with hepatocellular injury. Compared with WM, CHM is more likely to cause severe liver injury, but liver injury caused by CHM is curable. (Gut Liver 2015;9:525-533)

Qi, Bo,Yao, Wen-Jian,Zhao, Bao-Sheng,Qin, Xiu-Guang,Wang, Yi,Wang, Wen-Ju,Wang, Tian-Yun,Liu, Shang-Guo,Li, Han-Chen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.9
Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether the miR-198 expression level is related to clinicopathological factors and prognosis of esophageal cancer. Methods: MicroRNA was extracted from esophageal cancer patients who underwent surgery for assessment using the Taqman@ MicroRNA assay. The correlation between miR-198 expression and clinicopathological features was analyzed, and the significance of miR-198 as a prognostic factor and its relationship with survival was determined. Results: MicroRNA-198 (miR-198) expression was higher in patients with poor prognosis than those with good prognosis (P<0.05). Kaplan-Meier analysis results showed that the miR-198 expression level had a significant correlation with survival time (P=0.030) and that patients with a higher expression of miR-198 had a shorter survival time. Cox multi-factor model analysis showed that patient prognosis (P=0.014), tumor length (P=0.040) and expression (P=0.012), and survival time had a significant correlation; the corresponding risks were 7.268, 1.246, and 3.524, respectively. Conclusion: miR-198 overexpression is involved in the poor prognosis of esophageal cancer and can be used as a biomarker for selection of cases requiring especial attention.

Transition metal sulfides (TMS) have emerged as promising anode materials for lithium and sodium ionbatteries due to their high theoretical capacity and low cost. However, the severe volume expansion duringthe conversion reaction causes rapid collapse inevitability when used as anode material. Herein, wepertinently fabricated nanoscale Ni3S4/Co3S4 with uniform particle size homogeneously dispersedbetween pleated graphene (Ni3S4/Co3S4@rGO) through facile hydrothermal assisted by cationic surfactants. The construction of 3D nanocomposites significantly shortens ion migration distances and enricheselectronic pathways, accelerating charge transfer kinetics while maintaining good stability. Uniformlydistributed bimetallic sulfides and rGO limit each other’s aggregation, allowing the excellent structuralproperties of the material to be maintained over time. Thus, the Ni3S4-Co3S4@rGO electrodes deliver ahigh reversible capacity of 972.5 mAh/g upon 200 cycles at 100 mA g1 in Lithium-ion battery and487.5 mAh/g upon 150 cycles at 100 mA g1 in Sodium-ion battery, as well as excellent rate capacityin both. These excellent properties show the potential for expansion of this simple synthetic methodin the field of alkali metal batteries.

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonograph and fine-needle aspiration cytologic examination (USG-FNAC) in the staging of axillary lymph node metastasis in breast cancer patients. Methods: We conducted an electronic search of the literature addressing the performance of USG-FNAC in diagnosis of axillary lymph node metastasis in databases such as Pubmed, Medline, Embase, Ovid and Cochrane library. We introduced a series of diagnostic test indices to evaluate the performance of USG-FNAC by the random effect model (REM), including sensitivity, specificity, likelihood ratios, and diagnostic odds ratios and area under the curve (AUC). Results: A total of 20 studies including 1371 cases and 1289 controls were identified. The pooled sensitivity was determined to be 0.66 (95% CI 0.64-0.69), specificity 0.98 (95% CI 0.98-0.99), positive likelihood ratio 22.7 (95% CI 15.0-34.49), negative likelihood ratio 0.32 (95% CI 0.25-0.41), diagnostic OR 84.2 (95% CI 53.3-133.0). Due to the marginal threshold effect found in some indices of diagnostic validity, we used a summary SROC curve to aggregate data, and obtained a symmetrical curve with an AUC of 0.942. Conclusion: The results of this meta-analysis indicated that the USG-FNAC techniques have acceptable diagnostic validity indices and can be used for early staging of axillary lymph node in breast cancer patients.
