        Effectiveness of virtual reality immersion on procedure-related pain and anxiety in outpatient pain clinic: an exploratory randomized controlled trial

        Background: The study investigated virtual reality (VR) immersion in alleviating procedure-related pain in patients with chronic pain undergoing fluoroscopy-guided minimally-invasive intervention in a prone position at an outpatient clinic. Methods: In this prospective randomized controlled study, 38 patients undergoing lumbar sympathetic ganglion block were randomized into either the VR or the control group. In the VR group, procedure-related pain was controlled via infiltration of local anesthetics while watching a 30-minute VR hypnotic program. In the control group, the skin infiltration alone was used, with the VR device switched off. The primary endpoint was an 11-point score on the numerical rating scale, indicating procedure-related pain. Patients’ satisfaction with pain control, anxiety levels, the need for additional local anesthetics during the procedure, hemodynamic stability, and any adverse events were assessed. Results: Procedure-related pain was significantly lower in the VR group (3.7 ± 1.4) than in the control group (5.5 ± 1.7; P = 0.002). Post-procedural anxiety was lower in the VR group than in the control group (P = 0.025), with a significant reduction from pre-procedural anxiety (P < 0.001). Although patients’ satisfaction did not differ significantly (P = 0.158) between the groups, a higher number of patients required additional local anesthetics in the control group (n = 13) than in the VR group (n = 4; P = 0.001). No severe adverse events occurred in either group during the study. Conclusions: VR immersion can be safely used as a novel adjunct to reduce procedural pain and anxiety during fluoroscopic pain intervention.

        Evaluation of the cross-sectional area of acromion process for shoulder impingement syndrome

        Background: Anatomic changes in the acromion have been considered a main cause of shoulder impingement syndrome (SIS). To evaluate the relationship between SIS and the acromion process, we devised a new morphological parameter called the acromion process cross-sectional area (APA). We hypothesized that the APA could be an important morphologic diagnostic parameter in SIS. Methods: We collected APA data from 95 patients with SIS and 126 control subjects who underwent shoulder magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Then we measured the maximal cross-sectional area of the bone margin of the acromion process on MRI scans. Results: The mean of APAs were 136.50 ± 21.75 mm2 in the male control group and 202.91 ± 31.78 mm2 in the male SIS group; SIS patients had significantly greater APAs (P < 0.001). The average of APAs were 105.38 ± 19.07 mm2 in the female control group and 147.62 ± 22.90 mm2 in the female SIS group, and the SIS patients had significantly greater APAs (P < 0.001). The optimal APA cut-off in the male group was 165.14 mm2 with 90.2% sensitivity, 91.4% specificity, and an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.968. In the female group, the optimal cut-off was 122.50 mm2 with 85.2% sensitivity, 84.9% specificity, and an AUC of 0.928. Conclusions: The newly devised APA is a sensitive parameter for assessing SIS; greater APA is associated with a higher possibility of SIS. We think that this result will be helpful for the diagnosis of SIS.

        내용분석과 토픽모델링을 적용한 복지행정 연구동향 분석

        이 연구는 내용분석과 토픽모델링 분석을 적용하여 지난 15년간 복지행정에 관한 연구동향을 살펴봄으로써 향후 연구방향과 시사점을 제시하기 위해 수행되었다. 최근 15년간 복지행정 관련 국내 논문을 조사한 결과, 총 474편의 학술논문을 확보할 수 있었다. 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 내용분석 결과, 연구방법 측면에서는 질적 연구에 비해 양적 연구가 더 많이 수행되고, 연구대상 지역에서는 국내 연구가 가장 많이 수행되고 있었으며, 공동연구에 비해 단독연구가 더 많이 수행됨을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 주제어의 빈도분석 결과, 상위 주제어(키워드)는 사회복지사, 직무만족, 사회서비스, 사회복지전담공무원, 일반행정, 사회적 기업, 조직몰입, 사회복지관, 사회복지조직, 사회복지, 사례관리, 복지행정, 소진, 질적 연구, 자원봉사, 이직의도, 비영리조직, 매개효과, 감정노동 등으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 토픽모델링 분석결과 도출된 13개의 토픽 비중을 살펴본 결과, ‘직무태도와 조직행동’, ‘사회복지 조직관리’, ‘직무스트레스와 소진’, ‘척도개발과 타당화’, ‘노인복지’, ‘사례관리실천’, ‘사회서비스’, ‘자원봉사와 기부’, ‘사회적기업의 성과’, ‘지역사회복지’, ‘휴먼서비스 종사자의 업무 수행경험’, ‘신공공관리와 정책집행’, ‘노인일자리사업’순으로 비중 있게 다루어졌음을 알 수 있었다. 이상을 종합하여 복지행정 연구를 발전시켜 나가는 데 필요한 시사점을 제시하였다. This study set out to examine the research trends of welfare administration for the last 15 years throughout content analysis and topic modeling analysis and propose future research directions and implications. The investigator examined all the domestic papers about welfare administration published and identified 474 papers. The major analysis results were as follows: first, the content analysis results show that more quantitative studies were performed than qualitative studies in terms of research methods, and domestic studies were performed the most in the study area, and more independent studies were performed than joint studies.; secondly, the frequency analysis results of keywords show that the top keywords include social workers, job satisfaction, social service, public social workers, public administration, social enterprise, organizational commitment, community welfare centers, social welfare organizations, social work, case management, welfare administration, burnout, qualitative research, volunteering, turnover intention, NPO, mediating effects, and emotional labor.; and finally, the study examined the relative importance of 13 topics identified after topic modeling analysis and found the greatest importance placed on job attitude and organizational behavior, which was followed by management of social welfare organizations, job stress and burnout, development and validation of scales, elderly welfare, case management practice, social service, volunteering and donation, achievements of social enterprises, community welfare, job performance experiences of practitioners, new public management and policy implementation, and employment promotion programs for the elderly in that order. Based on these findings, the study provided implications for research of welfare administration.

        A Study on Job Analysis in the Technical Part of Hair Designers

        Purpose: In modern society, where professional skills and function are required according to changes in the industrial structure, the personal and technical job capabilities of beauty human resources who pursue beauty targeting the human body are the most important factors affecting the growth of beauty companies along with customer satisfaction. Since it is a resource, it is a time when effective and efficient management of human re-sources is desperately needed. introduction of the National Competency Standards and Fair Evaluation Qualifi-cation System, one of the widely used improvement directions to quickly reflect changes in the industrial field, will help improve the productivity of beauty care by studying whether it is correlated with the technical capabili-ties of designers. Method: This survey was conducted for 15 days from August 5, 2022, by setting practitioners nationwide who obtained national qualifications related to hairdressing (hair) and working in hair salons as survey sub-jects, dis-tributed the questionnaires directly, and asked the respondents to fill in the questionnaires directly. An empirical survey was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire survey method. First, a measurement tool was constructed, the factors of the item on the difference in job ability were analyzed, and the validity and reliability of the four factors extracted based on the eigenvalue 1 were tested, and the data were analyzed. Results: As a result of demographic analysis, there were 239 males (50.9%) and 231 females (49.1%), As a result of the descriptive statistics analysis, the overall job competency averaged 3.45 points. Among technical job skills, ‘correction service ability’ (M=3.63) appeared the highest, ‘Cutting skills’ (M=3.62) followed by ‘profes-sional work’ (M=3.52). Differences in technical job competency by gender were relatively higher in men than women in terms of cutting skills, customer hair evaluation/prescription, and more, In the case of women, com-pared to men, permanent wave technology, hair coloring technology, straightening service ability, fashion/inge-nuity, and hair styling skill were relatively higher, showing differences. Technical job skills by age were relatively higher in those in their 50s, 60s, and 20s than those in their 30s and 40s. Job competency according to the final level of education was relatively high in those with a 4-year college degree or higher. It was found that those who majored in beauty related departments had higher work ability than those who did not major. As a result of the analysis by experience, the overall technical job ability was relatively high for less than 5 years or more than 10 years, and for professional work. Conclusion: As a result of analyzing the technical job of hair designers working in the industrial field, it can be seen that those in their 20s have the best technical job ability by age, and those with less than 5 years of experi-ence have the best technical job ability by career. It is recognized that the systematic curriculum of NCS is working meaningfully.

        Area-optimized Syndrome Calculation for ReedSolomon Decoder

        In this paper an efficient structure to compute syndromes is proposed for Reed-Solomon decoders. The proposed method formulates all the computations relevant to syndromes as a matrix multiplication so as to enlarge the search area for common sub-expressions. In contrast to the conventional architecture, the proposed method completely removes finite-field adders as they are embedded in the single matrix multiplication. The hardware resources are drastically reduced by sharing common sub-expressions and eliminating finite-field adders. Syndrome calculation blocks for various RS codes are synthesized with a 0.13μm CMOS technology, and experimental results show that the proposed method reduces the hardware complexity of parallel syndrome calculation by approximately 50% compared to the conventional structure.

        Regression discontinuity for survival data

        Regression discontinuity (RD) design is one of the most widely used methods in causal inference for estimation of treatment eect when the treatment is created by a cutpoint from the covariate of interest. There has been little attention to RD design, although it provides a very useful tool for analysis of treatment eect for censored data. In this paper, we define the causal eect for survival function in RD design when the treatment is assigned deterministically by the covariate of interest. We propose estimators of this causal eect for survival data by using transformation, which leads unbiased estimator of the survival function with local linear regression. Simulation studies show the validity of our approach. We also illustrate our proposed method using the prostate, lung, colorectal and ovarian (PLCO) dataset.

        Cognitive Correlates of Complexity, Accuracy, and Fluency in L2 Spoken and Written Production

        This study examines the relationship between Korean as a second language (KSL) learners’ cognitive factors and L2 production. We evaluated three cognitive factors: language analysis, sound discrimination, and working memory. We compared these cognitive factors with three L2 production abilities: complexity, accuracy, and fluency in their speaking and writing. Results based on the data?which were derived from a combined total of 130 Japanese, Chinese, English, and French learners of Korean?indicated that language analysis, sound discrimination, and working memory correlated significantly with all production indicators but not with speaking accuracy. The clearest correlations found were as follows: working memory with speaking fluency and writing complexity, sound discrimination with speaking complexity and writing complexity, and language analysis with speaking and writing fluency. Linear regression analysis results showed working memory was the most influential factor on the production indicators, followed by sound discrimination. Language analysis, however, influenced only writing accuracy.

        Low-Complexity Parallel Chien Search Structure Using Two-Dimensional Optimization

        <P>To achieve a high-throughput decoder, massive-parallel computations are normally applied to the Chien search, but the parallel realization increases the hardware complexity significantly. To reduce the hardware complexity of the parallel Chien search, this brief proposes a 2-D optimization method. In contrast to the previous 1-D optimizations, the proposed method maximizes the sharing of common subexpressions in both the row and column directions. All the partial products needed in the parallel structure are represented in a single matrix, and the finite-field adders are completely eliminated in effect. Simulation results show that the proposed 2-D optimization leads to a significant reduction of the hardware complexity. For the (8191, 7684, 39) BCH code, the count of xor gates in the parallel Chien search is reduced by 92% and 22%, compared to the straightforward and strength-reduced structures, respectively.</P>
