<P>Abstract</P><P>Background and Aim: </P><P>Stem cell transplantation offers potential gene therapy for brain tumors. However, this approach has received little attention as a treatment for gastrointestinal tumors. In the present study, we explored the possibility of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) producing cytosine deaminase (CD), followed by systemic 5-fluorocytosine (5-FC) administration, showing an antitumor effect on a mouse gastric cancer xenograft.</P><P>Methods: </P><P>We first explored the ability of hMSC, coated with fluorescent dye, to migrate to human gastric cancer MKN45 cells <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I>. We then used hMSC in which a gene expressed the prodrug-activating enzyme CD, which can convert the prodrug 5-FC into the cytotoxic agent 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), and further investigated the potential of these cells to deliver the CD gene and to reduce tumor growth in nude mice. The migratory capacity of hMSC was confirmed by an <I>in vitro</I> migration assay, as well as in an <I>in vivo</I> model of nude mice bearing subcutaneous tumors of MKN45 cells when hMSC were injected.</P><P>Results: </P><P>The migration ability of hMSC towards MKN45 cells was confirmed by migration assay. Effective conversion of 5-FC to 5-FU by hMSC transfected with the CD gene (CD-hMSC) showed therapeutic anticancer potential in a MKN45 cell co-culture system, as confirmed by thin layer chromatography. Nude mice bearing MKN45 tumors were intravenously injected with CD-hMSC, followed by systemic 5-FC treatment (500 mg/kg/day) for 7 days. Tumor volumes and weights of mice injected with CD-hMSC decreased significantly after treatment with 5-FC. However, the 5-FC-treated group without CD-hMSC injection showed neither a decrease in tumor volume nor bodyweight loss.</P><P>Conclusion: </P><P>The CD-hMSC system showed anticancer therapeutic potential, and minimized the side-effects of 5-FU.</P>

This paper proposes a network processor especially optimized for content switching. With 2Gbps port capability, it integrates packet processor cluster, content-based classification engine and traffic manager on a single chip. A switch fabric architecture is also designed for scale-up of the network processor's capability over hundreds gigabit bandwidth. Applied in real network systems, the network processor shows wire-speed network address translator (NAT) and content-based switching performance.

본 연구에서는 홍수조절기능이 미흡한 농업용 노후저수지에 대하여 재해위험 강우 특성을 파악하고, DAMBRK 모형을 이용하여 노후저수지의 붕괴유출량을 산정하고자 하였다. 저수지 수위-수표면적 관계를 도출하여 노후저수지의 최저 및 최고 수위와 노후저수지로 유입되는 유입유량을 산정하여 저수지의 저수율에 따른 위험성을 파악하였다. 또한, 다양한 강우 시나리오 및 Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) 에서 제안하고 있는 붕괴 지속기간 추정 방법론과 DAMBRK 모형을 이용하여 노후저수지의 붕괴유출량을 산정하였다. 산정 결과를 보면, 저수지에 따른 특성이 다르지만, 평균 저수율이 60%를 유지하면서 약 225 mm의 강우가 내리면 저수지의 수위가 만수위에 근접하거나 넘어서게 된다. 또한, PMP 강우가 내렸을 경우에 능천 저수지의 붕괴유출량은 697 ㎥/s, 산막 저수지는 128 ㎥/s, 신지 저수지는 96㎥/s, 저사 저수지는 71㎥/s으로 산정되었다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 재해위험 강우 특성을 파악하고 저수지 붕괴유출량을 산정한다면, 본 연구와 비슷한 제원의 저수지에서 발생할 수 있는 붕괴에 대한 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. In this study, because of its insufficient flood-control functions, the characteristics of anaging reservoir against hazard-triggering rainfall were identified. The DAMBRK model was used to estimate the amount of breach discharge from the aging reservoir. To identify the risks in the reservoir-storage rate, the water level-surface area relationship was derived to estimate the lowest and highest water levelsas well as the inflow rate in the aging reservoir. The breach discharge from the aging reservoir was estimated using various rainfall scenarios and the data from the Association of State Dam Safety Officials. In addition, in terms of probable maximum precipitation rainfall, the breach-discharge amounts of the Neung-cheon, San-mak, Sin-gi, and Jeo-sa reservoirs were 697, 128, 96, and 71 ㎥/s, respectively. The results show that the level of the reservoir will approach or exceed the full water level when 225 mm of precipitation occurs, and the average reservoir water rate would remain at 60%. We therefore conclude that if the characteristics of the hazard-triggering rainfall are identified and the reservoir breach discharge is estimated, they can be used as essential data for the analysis of possible breaches in reservoirs similar to this study.
쌀기본 이유식의 에너지 밀도 및 저장성 증대를 위한 최적 감마선 조사 선량

본 연구에서는 방사선 조사 기술을 이용하여 에너지 밀도가 증대되고 미생물학적으로 안전한 이유식의 공급을 위해 쌀미음의 적절한 방사선 조사 시기 및 선량을 결정하였다. 쌀과 쌀미음에 각각 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 15, 20 kGy로 감마선 조사한 후 물성특성과 총균수를 측정하였다. 쌀과 쌀미음에 2.5 kGy 선량으로 감마선 조사하는 경우 점성이 각각 22%, 98%로 감소하였다. 저장 2주째 비조사구의 총균수는 6 log CFU/g이었으나, 2.5 kGy 조사구의 경우 3 log CFU/g 수준을 유지하였으며 7.5 kGy 조사구의 경우 저장기간 동안 어떠한 미생물도 검출되지 않았다. 따라서 총고형분 함량을 증대시키기 위해서는 점성저하와 미생물학적인 측면을 고려하여 쌀미음 상태에서 감마선 조사하는 것이 적절할 것으로 사료되며, 이유식의 에너지밀도를 증대시키기 위한 기술의 일환으로 감마선 조사 기술의 이용가능성을 시사하는 바이다. This study was carried out to determine the optimum irradiation dose for infant foods with improved energy-density and extend shelf-life using gamma irradiation. Rice and rice porridge were irradiated at 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 15 and 20 kGy, and rheological characteristics and total plate count of porridge were evaluated for 6 weeks. Rice and rice porridge at 2.5 kGy dose reduced the viscosity with 22% and 98%, respectively. The result of total aerobic bacteria of non-irradiated rice porridge was 6 log CFU/g and that of 2.5 kGy irradiated rice porridge on 2 weeks storage was 3 log CFU/g, while that of 7.5 kGy irradiated sample was not detected even at the end of storage. Irradiation on rice-based porridge was proper to enhance the total solid in inverse proportion to considering viscosity and extend shelf-life. Gamma irradiation was effective technology in enhancing calorie value of porridge due to reduction of viscosity.
