In this paper, we propose a method to identify the parameters of a rotorcraft slung load system using the modal characteristics of a flexible cable. The proposed method estimates the length of the cable and the mass of the payload by means of a frequency analysis. Dynamic equations of the slung load system with the flexible cable are derived using Udwadia-Kalaba equation (UKE) in order to build a simulation program, and the similarity of the simulated slung load movement is verified by comparison with flight test results. Using the computer simulation program, we show that the proposed method works well within various parameter ranges.
Evaluation of the toxic effects of celecoxib on <i>Xenopus</i> embryo development

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Celecoxib is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 and is prescribed for severe pain and inflammation. The excellent therapeutic effects of celecoxib mean that it is frequently used clinically, including for women of child-bearing age. However, the prenatal effects of this compound have not been studied extensively in vertebrates. The present study examined the developmental toxicity of celecoxib using a frog embryo teratogenic assay-<I>Xenopus</I> (FETAX). In addition, we examined its effects on cell migration using co-cultures of human umbilical vein endothelial cells and 10T1/2 cells. These studies revealed that celecoxib induced concentration-dependent mortality and various malformations of the <I>Xenopus</I> internal organs, including gut miscoiling, haemorrhage, and oedema. Celecoxib also downregulated the expression of vascular wall markers (Msr and alpha smooth muscle actin) and other organ-specific markers (Nkx2.5, Cyl104 and IFABP). <I>In vitro</I> co-culture studies revealed that celecoxib inhibited pericyte migration and differentiation into vascular smooth muscle cells. In conclusion, celecoxib was both toxic and teratogenic in <I>Xenopus</I> embryos, where it produced serious heart and vessel malformation by inhibiting vascular wall maturation and vascular network formation.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Celecoxib is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits cyclooxygenase-2. </LI> <LI> Celecoxib produced significant toxic and teratogenic effects in <I>Xenopus</I> embryos. </LI> <LI> Embryo organ-specific pathology was consistent with gene expression changes. </LI> <LI> Celecoxib inhibited pericyte activity and cardiovascular development. </LI> <LI> The safety of celecoxib use in pregnant women requires careful analysis. </LI> </UL> </P>

Background: Second-line chemotherapy offers advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients a small, but significant increase in survival. Docetaxel is usually administered as a 3-week schedule, yet there is significant toxicity with this therapy. Therefore, a weekly schedule has been explored in several previous trials. In this retrospective study, we compared the efficacy and safety of a weekly schedule and a 3-week schedule of docetaxel monotherapy in a second-line setting. Methods: Docetaxel was administered as 75 mg/m2 on day 1 every 3 weeks or as 37.5 mg/m2 on day 1 and 8 every 3 weeks until disease progression or severe toxicity developed. Results: From October 2003 to March 2006, a total of 37 patients received docetaxel monotherapy and 36 patients could be evaluated. A total of 135 cycles were administered and then evaluated. The median overall survival was 13.3 months (95% confidence interval: 6.3~20.3) for the weekly schedule and 10.7 months (95% confidence interval: 8.3~13.0) for the 3-week schedule (p=0.41). The median time to progression was 3.0 months (95% confidence interval: 1. 9~4.0) and 2.8 months (95% confidence interval: 1.0~4.6), respectively (p=0.41). The response rate was 16.7% for the weekly schedule and 21.1% for the 3-week schedule. The major form of hematologic toxicity was grade 3-4 neutropenia (3-week: 38.9%, weekly: 9.5%). The non-hematologic toxicities were similar between the two schedules. There were no treatment-related deaths. Conclusions: A docetaxel weekly schedule was very tolerable and it had comparable activity to that of the 3-week docetaxel schedule. Considering the efficacy and tolerability, a docetaxel weekly schedule can be an alternative schedule for the standard treatment of NSCLC in a second-line setting.

<P>Recent evidence shows that amniotic fluid (AF) contains multiple cell types derived from the developing fetus, and may represent a novel source of stem cells for cell therapy. In this study, we examined the paracrine factors released by human amniotic fluid-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AF-MSCs) and their ability to accelerate the wound-healing process by stimulating proliferation and migration of dermal fibroblasts. AF-MSCs expressed the typical MSC marker proteins CD13, CD29, and CD44 and differentiated into adipocytes, osteoblasts, and chondrocytes when exposed to the appropriate differentiation media. In addition, AF-MSC-conditioned media (AF-MSC-CM) significantly enhanced proliferation of dermal fibroblasts. Antibody-based protein array and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) indicated that AF-MSC-CM contains various cytokines and chemokines that are known to be important in normal wound healing, including IL-8, IL-6, TGF-beta, TNFRI, VEGF, and EGF. Application of AF-MSC-CM significantly enhanced wound healing by dermal fibroblasts via the TGF-beta/SMAD2 pathway. Levels of p-SMAD2 were increased by AF-MSC-CM, and both the increase in p-SMAD2 and migration of dermal fibroblasts were blocked by inhibiting the TGF-beta/SMAD2 pathway. Moreover, in a mouse excisional wound model, AF-MSC-CM accelerated wound healing. These data provide the first evidence of the potential for AF-MSC-CM in the treatment of skin wounds.</P>
Photoluminescence of Porous Silicon Carbide in Solvents

The relationship between porous surfaces and photoluminescence (PL) behavior of porous silicon carbide (PSC) in various solvents has been studied. The porous surfaces of p-type silicon carbide can be fabricated by electrochemical anodization from the 6H, 15R, 4H-${\alpha}$-SiC substrates in dark-current mode (DCM) condition. We have been investigated the dependence of the PL spectra of PSC under the medium having the different dielectric constants. It has been found that PL depends sensitively on the environment surrounding the surface. The extent of chemically stability on the surface of PSC due to the various solvents was confirmed by reflectance Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Detailed IR experiments on the PSC samples were carried out before and after various solvents immersion. These results will be offered important information on the origin of PL in porous structure.

<P>Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an X-linked genetic disorder caused by mutations in the dystrophin gene. Adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) are an attractive source of cells for stem cell therapy. Losartan has been reported to improve ASC transplantation in injured mouse muscles. In the present study, we investigated whether the combined treatment of losartan and ASCs in the injured muscles of mdx mice improves regeneration. The combined treatment of ASCs and losartan remarkably improved muscle regeneration and induced muscle hypertrophy. In addition, ASCs and losartan treatment downregulated transforming growth factor-β and inhibited muscle fibrosis. We observed cells coexpressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) and dystrophin in the muscle samples of mice transplanted with GFP-positive ASCs. In the coculture in vitro experiment, we also observed that the GFP ASCs differentiated into dystrophin-expressing myotubes. The present study shows that the combination of transplanted ASCs and treatment with losartan ameliorated muscle fibrosis and improved muscle regeneration in injured mdx mice. Thus, we suggest that combined treatment with losartan and ASCs could help to improve muscle regeneration in the muscles of injured patients, including DMD patients.</P>
정보공개제도의 한국적 모형정립을 위한 시론 - 정치 . 행정적 시각에서 -

정보공개의 제도화는 무엇보다는 국민이 국가의 주인으로서 역할과 임무를 수행하는데 필수불가결하다. 그럼에도 불구하고 한국에서는 아직 정보공개제도가 도입되지 않고 있다. 이에 본 논문은 한국에 정보공개제도를 도입하는 경우에 요구되는 최소한의 구성요소를 정치, 행정적인 시각에서 파악하여 그 제도화방향을 모색해 보려는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 분석적인 틀로서는 체제접근법의 논리를 원용하였으며, 자료는 중앙의 5개 부처에서 300명의 공무원을 대상으로 설문조사한 것이고, 분석방법으로는 기술통계학을 이용하였다. 분석결과는 정보공개제도의 한국적 모형이 다음과 같은 방향으로 정립되어야 함을 시사한다. (1) 긍정적인 정보공개환경을 조성한다. (2) 정보공개기관의 실시기관은 모든 행정기관으로 하고, 공개여부의 결정은 정보공개 담당자의 직속상급자로 정하며, 정보공개 기준으로는 국가안보의 위협여부와 개인의 프라이버시 침해여부를 최우선으로 고려한다. (3) 공개대상정보는 청구정보로하고, 그 형태는 전산자료를 포함한 공문서로 하며, 대상정보의 공개시점은 결재가 종료된 시점으로 한다. (4) 정보공개제도의 적용제외사항 결정방식으로는 한정적 열거주의를 택한다. (5) 공개청구권자는 한국민이면 누구라도 될 수 있도록 한다. (6) 청구공개를 거절당한 청구권자의 구제는 일차적으로 실시기관내 설치된 제3자적 구제기구에 의한 행정불복심사를 통해 이루어지게 하고, 그 다음으로 제한적인 심사를 통해 이루어지게 한다. (7) 정보공개제도는 무엇보다도 국정에 대한 국민의 신뢰성과 협조 및 알권리 그리고 주민참여를 촉진시키는 방향으로 정립. 운영되어야 한다. 그런데 정보공개제도는 개방체제로서 정보공개요구를 효과적으로 충족시킬 수 있도록 주기적인 수정, 보완이 요구된다. 그럼에도 불구하고 여전히 내재할 수 있는 청구정보의 정확성 문제를 해결할 수 있는 추가조치도 고려해야 한다.
