        Fatigue Behavior of High-Performance Steel Beams Subjected to Different Corrosion Conditions

        The existing research mainly considers the fatigue properties of steel structures under the influence of the environment, corrosion rate, and load conditions without considering the effect of corrosion locations and areas. However, corrosion can happen to a steel structure in a practical engineering setting at any position. This paper investigates the fatigue behavior of high-performance steel beams (Q550E) subjected to different corrosion conditions through various tests. Results show that the fatigue life of the wholly corroded steel beams decreases as the frequency increases and increases as the stress ratio increases. Additionally, local corrosion has a greater impact on flexural stiffness than whole corrosion, and the lower half area has a greater impact than the right half area. Other corroded steel beams, with the exception of SCU-10, have fracture positions that are within the corrosion area. Because, despite the corrosion in the bending shear section, the fatigue strength of the corrosion area is higher than that of the fracture location. In addition, the degradation curves of the mid-span flexural stiffness of other steel beams under cyclic loading have not observed S-shaped curve characteristics, with the exception of GC-10B and SCU-20.

        The rapid development of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) technology is reshaping the future of the language services sector. With neural network algorithm greatly optimized, the performance of machine translation is being constantly improved, and the application scenarios become more diverse, which expands in breadth and depth the information people can acquire. Meanwhile, the mix of speech recognition, natural language processing, machine vision, knowledge maps and other technologies will provide a variety of personalized and customized choices for language services in the future. In the upcoming era of human-computer integration, AI technology will better serve the needs of translators and users; it will help remove language barriers, making communication and information acquisition easier and more effective.

        Mechanical Performance of Prefabricated External Wall Panel under Horizontal Displacement

        In this paper, experiment and Finite Element Method (FEM) approaches are employed to study the mechanical performance of prefabricated external wall panel under lateral displacement. Tensile bond strength test and Z-shaped specimen direct shear test of the bonding interface of mortar to ceramsite concrete are performed, the normal and shear mechanical property of the interface is studied respectively. Scaled model test of prefabricated external wall panel under lateral displacement is then performed to obtain loaddisplacement curve, and mechanical behavior of prefabricated external wall panel in different stages is studied. Moreover, ABAQUS finite element analysis model for scaled model test panel is established based on previous study about bond interface and the results from experiment and FEM analysis are relatively consistent with each other. It is found that with the gradual increase in tangential contact stiffness of joint interfaces, the overall lateral stiffness of wall panels will approach complete joint consolidation conditions before the peak load. However, when the tangential contact stiffness of joint interfaces increases to a certain extent, there will be little change in initial lateral stiffness.

      • A Novel Multiple Attribute Decision Making Method and its Application in Sustainable Assessment

        It is a key point for an enterprise in the long run whether it has an ability to achieve sustainability development. Therefore, it is important to assess this ability from the perspective of an enterprise. In this paper, a new multiple attribute decision making method in the dual hesitant fuzzy context is proposed to deal with this problem. Dual hesitant fuzzy set, as a combination of intuitionistic fuzzy set and hesitant fuzzy set, can describe the complex preferences of the decision maker or experts more accurately where membership, non-membership and uncertainty is included simultaneously. Distance measure is introduced in TOPSIS to measure the difference between two alternatives in this assessment problem, which forms the multiple attribute decision making method. Finally, an illustrative example is demonstrated to verify the applicability of the proposed method.

        Design, Synthesis, and Biological Evaluation of Novel 1, 2, 4-Triazole Derivatives as Antifungal Agent

        A series of novel 1, 2, 4-triazole derivatives (9a-p) have been designed and synthesized as the potential antifungal agents. All compounds were characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and LCMS. Their antifungal activities against seven human pathogenic fungi were evaluated in vitro by measuring the minimal inhibitory concentrations. Most of the tested compounds were found to be more potent against Candida albicans than the control drug fluconazole.

        Background: Premixed hypotonic solutions of 0.33% saline + 5% dextrose + 10mmol/ L potassium-chloride (0.33S, tonicity 133mEq/L) and 0.9% saline ±dextrose (NS, tonicity 308mEq/L) are common peri-operative maintenance fiuids, but their effects on serum biochemistry are unclear. Methods: Using a single-centre, prospectively-maintained electronic database, we retrospectively examined post-operative biochemistry in adults maintained on exclusively 0.33S or NS peri-operatively, from March 2012 to September 2013. Outcomes included new-onset post-operative hyponatremia, hypokalaemia, hypoglycaemia, and acute kidney injury (AKI, =1.5x increase in serum creatinine); multivariate analyses were adjusted for demographics, comorbidities, surgery-types/duration, infusion time/ volumes, and hospital length-of-stay. Results: We studied 279 patients given 0.33S, and 279 NS controls matched for cumulative infusion volume. Mean age was 59(±18) years. More NS patients had diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease and chronic kidney disease (p<0.05). Surgery types included gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary (43%), orthopaedic (30%) and nephrectomy (3%). Mean fi uid volumes administered were 6.9(±3.3)L of 0.33S and 7.1(±5.6)L of NS (p=0.57), with 100% versus 52% of drips containing dextrose, respectively. More 0.33S patients (versus NS) developed hyponatremia (30% versus 17%, p<0.001); this difference was signifi cant for gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary (p=0.001) but not orthopaedic (p=0.74) surgeries. Less 0.33S patients (versus NS) had hypokalaemia (1% versus 10%, p<0.001), hypoglycaemia (1% versus 4%, p=0.01), and AKI (3% versus 8%, p=0.007). On multivariate analyses, 0.33S, gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary surgeries and nephrectomy were independently associated with hyponatremia; while NS, hypertension, longer infusion hours, and nephrectomy were independently associated with AKI (p<0.05). Conclusions: 0.33S infusion in post-surgical patients, especially post-gastrointestinal/ hepatobiliary surgeries, is strongly associated with hyponatremia, but with less hypokalaemia or hypoglycaemia, compared with NS. The association between NS administration and AKI is heavily confounded by baseline comorbidities and requires further prospective evaluation. Both fi uid types are not appropriate for isolated use, and more balanced maintenance fi uids are desired.

        A novel synthesis of hexagonal cylinder-like ZnO with an excellent performance by a surfactant-free microemulsion-hydrothermal method

        A W/O surfactant-free microemulsion (SFME) template-hydrothermal method for the preparation of ZnOproducts was proposed. Using the SFME system containing hexane, propan-2-ol and water, hexagonalcylinder-like (twinning) ZnO microcrystals were synthesized. The XRD, SEM and TEM characterizationsshowed that the synthesized ZnO microcrystals have a hexagonal wurtzite structure. At hydrothermaltemperatures of 120–140 C, hexagonal cylinder-like ZnO microcrystals were synthesized, whereas thehexagonal cylinder twinning ZnO microcrystals were obtained at 160 C. The growth mechanism of theZnO microcrystals was also investigated. The EPR and XPS spectra of the synthesized ZnO products showed that there are oxygen vacancies onthe ZnO surface. The photodegradation behavior of methylene blue (MB, 10 ppm) with a UV-Hg lamp(250 W) as the light source in ZnO aqueous suspension (0.3 g L 1) was investigated. The ZnO productsynthesized at 140 ℃ can significantly photocatalyze the degradation of lower concentration MBsolutions. After 35 min of irradiation, the photocatalytic decomposition rate reached 98.3%. It is hopedthat this work could serve as an important stepping stone for establishing a novel hydrothermal methodbased on SFME system, therefore paving the way for other potential ideas on the application of SFMEsystems.

        Factors associated with anemia among female adult vegetarians in Malaysia

        BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: A large number of studies on anemia have focused mostly on pregnant women or children. The vegetarian population, which is another potential risk group for anemia, remains largely unexplored. Therefore, this cross-sectional study examined the associations of the sociodemographic, lifestyle, nutritional, and psychological factors with the anemia status among female adult vegetarians. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A total of 177 female vegetarians were recruited from a Buddhist and Hindu organization in Selangor, Malaysia. The participants completed a self-administered questionnaire, which analyzed their sociodemographic characteristics, physical activity level, sleep quality, depression, anxiety, and stress. The body weight, height, waist circumference, and body fat percentage of the participants were also measured. A 3-day dietary recall was conducted to assess their dietary intake. Blood samples (3 ml) were withdrawn by a nurse from each participant to determine the hemoglobin (Hb) level. RESULTS: The findings revealed 28.2% of the participants to be anemic. The age group (AOR = 2.46, 95% CI = 1.19-5.05), marital status (AOR = 2.69, 95% CI = 1.27-5.71), and percentage of energy from protein (AOR = 5.52, 95% CI = 1.41-21.65) were the significant predictors of anemia. CONCLUSIONS: Anemia is a public health problem among female vegetarians in this study. Health promotion programs that target female adult vegetarians should be conducted to manage and prevent anemia, particularly among those who are married, aged 50 and below, and with an inadequate protein intake.

        A Unified Framework for Transmitter Power Control in Cellular Radio Systems

        This paper investigates the impacts of array weight errors (AWE) in an antenna array (AA) on a parallel interference cancellation (PIC) receiver in uplink synchronous and asynchronous direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems. The performance degradation due to an AWE, which is approximated by a Gaussian distributed random variable, is estimated as a function of the variance of the AWE. Theoretical analysis, confirmed by simulation, demonstrates the tradeoffs encountered between system parameters such as the number of antennas and the variance of the AWE in terms of the achievable average bit error rate and the user capacity. Numerical results show that the performance of the PIC with the AA in the DS- CDMA uplink is sensitive to the AWE. However, either a larger number of antennas or uplink synchronous transmissions have the potential of reducing the overall sensitivity, and thus improving its performance.
