<P>Recently, enzymatic quorum quenching has proven its potential as an innovative approach for biofouling control in the membrane bioreactor (MBR) for advanced wastewater treatment. However, practical issues on the cost and stability of enzymes are yet to be solved, which requires more effective quorum quenching methods. In this study, a novel quorum quenching strategy, interspecies quorum quenching by bacterial cell, was elaborated and proved to be efficient and economically feasible biofouling control in MBR. A recombinant Escherichia coli which producing N-acyl homoserine lactonase or quorum quenching Rhodococcus sp. isolated from a real MBR plant was encapsulated inside the lumen of microporous hollow fiber membrane, respectively. The porous membrane containing these functional bacteria (i.e., 'microbial-vessel') was put into the submerged MBR to alleviate biofouling on the surface of filtration membrane. The effect of biofouling inhibition by the microbial-vessel was evaluated over 80 days of MBR operation. Successful control of biofouling in a laboratory scale MBR suggests that the biofouling control through the interspecies quorum quenching could be expanded to the plant scale of MBR and various environmental engineering systems with economic feasibility.</P>

In clinical practice, pharmacological treatment is mostly focused on behavioral symptoms in everyday life. Nevertheless, persistent effort continues to develop medication for causal treatment. Recent changes in diagnostic criteria from Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition, text revision (DSM-IV-TR) to DSM-5 would affect not only diagnosing approaches, but also therapeutic approaches. Because previous pervasive developmental disorders have been integrated into a single entity, the autism spectrum disorder (ASD), we have to prepare for what medications are valuable for the ASD. In this article, we reviewed the following etiological treatment: acetylcholine and glutamate related medicine; amino acid medicine such as secretin, endogenous opioid, and oxytocin; complementary and alternative medicine such as chelating agents, vitamins, and omega-3; promising drugs related to the scope of pharmacogenetics currently under study.

Neurochem.</I> (2010) <B>114</B>, 685–696.</P><P>Abstract</P><P>Although the dendritic localization and translation of a subset of mRNAs plays a pivotal role in synaptic plasticity, the dendritic mRNAs and their functions have been only minimally characterized thus far. In this study, we isolated mRNAs from Staufen2-containing ribonucleoprotein complexes, which function as modules for the transport of mRNA to the dendrites, and then constructed a cDNA library. Apolipoprotein E gene (<I>APOE</I>) mRNA was isolated from the dendritic mRNA-specific cDNA library. The specific localization of <I>APOE</I> mRNA was evaluated via <I>in situ</I> hybridization. The specific regions involved in the dendritic transport of <I>APOE</I> mRNA were determined using a visualization system employing green fluorescent protein-tagged bacteriophage MS2 RNA-binding protein. As a result, the proximal N-terminal or C-terminal regions of the ApoE-coding sequences were determined to be sufficient for dendritic transport. The level of dendritic <I>APOE</I> mRNA was significantly increased by depolarization-induced neuronal activity, but was reduced in the cell body regions. We assessed the functions of neuronal ApoE. The reduction of ganglioside GM1 by cholesterol depletion was completely blocked by ApoE over-expression. In addition, ApoE over-expression increased the immunoreactivity of the post-synaptic density 95 kDa antibody in the dendrites. These findings indicate that neuronal ApoE may be relevant to lipid rafts or synaptic structural plasticity.</P>

급격히 발전해 온 엔터프라이즈 환경에 대하여 체계적으로 소프트웨어 개발 패러다임이 변하고 있다. 이종 플랫폼, 나아가 이종 개발 플랫폼을 자유로이 연동시킬 수 있는 개발 방법에 대한 필요성이 대두되면서 MDA 개념이 등장하였다. MDA는 프로그래밍 언어 혹은 런타임 플랫폼에 독립적인 모델에 의해 개발하는 방식으로, 개발된 모델을 특정 플랫폼에 알맞은 형태로 변환함으로써 개발 모델 및 코드의 재사용성을 극대화한다. 본 논문에서는 MDA 개발에 있어서 특정 플랫폼에 알맞은 코드를 생성하기 위한 기능과 그 설계 방안을 논한다.
