Adaptive Trajectory Compensation of Large Inertia Robot

        Kuo Yang,Xin-hui Liu,Bing-wei Cao,Wei Chen,Peng Tan 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2024 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.22 No.3

The electro-hydraulic controlled bionic robots suffer from path contour deviation, which is affected byinertia, system lag, and control system accuracy. The focus of this paper is on the study of a data-driven systemfor the compensation of errors in the robot’s internal arithmetic model and its own motion. A deviation predictionmodel of the robot motion process is constructed using a machine learning approach, while the spatial error, generated in the transfer process between the input trajectory and the actual output, is de-parameterized and regardedas an attribute value of the robot’s motion process. Furthermore, a data-based adaptive compensation method isproposed. The simulation model and a hardware-in-the-loop simulation platform of the proposed control strategyare constructed, in order to verify the proposed control approach. Simulation and experimental results show that theproposed compensation strategy can significantly reduce system deviation.

Assessing the performance of ChatGPT in answering questions regarding cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma

        Yee Hui Yeo,Jamil S. Samaan,Wee Han Ng,Peng-Sheng Ting,Hirsh Trivedi,Aarshi Vipani,Walid Ayoub,Ju Dong Yang,Omer Liran,Brennan Spiegel,Alexander Kuo 대한간학회 2023 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.29 No.3

Background/Aims: Patients with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) require extensive and personalized care to improve outcomes. ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer), a large language model, holds the potential to provide professional yet patient-friendly support. We aimed to examine the accuracy and reproducibility of ChatGPT in answering questions regarding knowledge, management, and emotional support for cirrhosis and HCC. Methods: ChatGPT’s responses to 164 questions were independently graded by two transplant hepatologists and resolved by a third reviewer. The performance of ChatGPT was also assessed using two published questionnaires and 26 questions formulated from the quality measures of cirrhosis management. Finally, its emotional support capacity was tested. Results: We showed that ChatGPT regurgitated extensive knowledge of cirrhosis (79.1% correct) and HCC (74.0% correct), but only small proportions (47.3% in cirrhosis, 41.1% in HCC) were labeled as comprehensive. The performance was better in basic knowledge, lifestyle, and treatment than in the domains of diagnosis and preventive medicine. For the quality measures, the model answered 76.9% of questions correctly but failed to specify decision-making cut-offs and treatment durations. ChatGPT lacked knowledge of regional guidelines variations, such as HCC screening criteria. However, it provided practical and multifaceted advice to patients and caregivers regarding the next steps and adjusting to a new diagnosis. Conclusions: We analyzed the areas of robustness and limitations of ChatGPT’s responses on the management of cirrhosis and HCC and relevant emotional support. ChatGPT may have a role as an adjunct informational tool for patients and physicians to improve outcomes.

Reduction of train-induced vibrations on adjacent buildings

        Hung, Hsiao-Hui,Kuo, Jenny,Yang, Yeong-Bin Techno-Press 2001 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.11 No.5

In this paper, the procedure for deriving an infinite element that is compatible with the quadrilateral Q8 element is first summarized. Enhanced by a self mesh-expansion procedure for generating the impedance matrices of different frequencies for the region extending to infinity, the infinite element is used to simulate the far field of the soil-structure system. The structure considered here is of the box type and the soils are either homogeneous or resting on a bedrock. Using the finite/infinite element approach, a parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of open and in-filled trenches in reducing the structural vibration caused by a train passing nearby, which is simulated as a harmonic line load. The key parameters that dominate the performance of wave barriers in reducing the structural vibrations are identified. The results presented herein serve as a useful guideline for the design of open and in-filled trenches concerning wave reduction.

Serotonin Modulates the Correlations between Obsessive-compulsive Trait and Heart Rate Variability in Normal Healthy Subjects: A SPECT Study with [123I]ADAM and Heart Rate Variability Measurement

        Che Yu Kuo,Kao Chin Chen,I Hui Lee,Huai-Hsuan Tseng,Nan Tsing Chiu,Po See Chen,Yen Kuang Yang,Wei Hung Chang 대한정신약물학회 2022 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.20 No.2

Objective: The impact of serotonergic system on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is well studied. However, the correlation between OC presentations and autonomic nervous system (ANS) is still unclear. Furthermore, whether the correlation might be modulated by serotonin is also uncertain. Methods: We recruited eighty-nine healthy subjects. Serotonin transporter (SERT) availability by [123I]ADAM and heart rate variability (HRV) tests were measured. Symptoms checklist-90 was measured for the OC presentations. The interaction between HRV and SERT availability were calculated and the correlation between HRV and OC symptoms were analyzed after stratified SERT level into two groups, split at medium. Results: The interactions were significant in the factors of low frequency (LF), high frequency (HF), and root mean square of successive differences (RMSSD). Furthermore, the significantly negative correlations between OC symptoms and the above HRV indexes existed only in subjects with higher SERT availability. Conclusion: OC symptoms might be correlated with ANS regulations in subjects with higher SERT availability.

      • Evolution of Multi-temporal Landslides at Luhu, Miaoli County, Taiwan

        ( Che-ming Yang ),( Keng-hao Kang ),( Kuo-wei Li ),( Hui-jung Wang ),( Ching-ping Hsiao ),( Jyh-jong Liao ),( Yii-wen Pan ) 대한지질공학회 2019 대한지질공학회 학술발표회논문집 Vol.2019 No.2

A deep-seated landslide took place in Luhu, Miao-Li, Taiwan during intermittent rainfall in April 2018; initially, there were successive rock falls and gully erosion then leaded to a deep-seated landslide failure eventually. This study aims to understand the failure mechanism and the process of deep-seated failure. The study site is a steep anaclinal slope consisting of the Miocence Shihti Formation with thick sandstone, interbedded of sandstone and shale. We collected multi-temporal ortho-images and digital elevation (surface) models from 1980 to 2019 for geological investigation, geomorphological interpretation and numerical simulation. The images reveal several slope failures at 1998, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2015, 2017 and 2018 with various volume and failure types. The study area contains three sub-regions: the north, the northwest and the southwest slopes. The slope failure occurred repeatedly inside the north and the northwest slopes in the early stage. Gully erosion in the southwest slope progressed to a landslide on April 5, 2018 first and expanded to cover the deep-seated landslide failure in the northwest slope eventually; the slope failure resulted in a natural dam. After the landslide, several open cracks appeared near to the crown. The estimated maximum thickness, area and volume of the deep-seated landslide are ~60 m, 65,000 m2 and ~2 Mm3, respectively. Based on these results, we also performed a series of numerical simulation using the software RAMMS to interpret the run out and the deposition of this landslide case.

FDG PET or PET/CT in Evaluation of Renal Angiomyolipoma

        Chun-Yi Lin,Hui-Yi Chen,Hueisch-Jy Ding,Kuo-Yang Yen,Chia-Hung Kao 대한영상의학회 2013 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.14 No.2

Objective: Angiomyolipoma is the most common benign kidney tumor. However, literature describing FDG PET findings on renal angiomyolipoma (AML) is limited. This study reports the FDG PET and PET/CT findings of 21 cases of renal AML. Materials and Methods: The study reviews FDG PET and PET/CT images of 21 patients diagnosed with renal AML. The diagnosis is based on the classical appearance of an AML on CT scan with active surveillance for 6 months. The study is focused on the observation of clinical and radiographic features. Results: Six men and 15 women were included in our study. The mean age of the patients was 57.14 ± 9.67 years old. The mean diameter of 21 renal AML on CT scans was 1.76 ± 1.00 cm (Min: 0.6 cm; Max: 4.4 cm). CT scans illustrated renal masses typical of AMLs, and the corresponding FDG PET scans showed minimal FDG activities in the area of the tumors. None of the 21 AMLs showed a maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) greater than 1.98. No statistically significant correlation was present between SUVmax and tumor size. Conclusion: Renal AMLs demonstrate very low to low uptake on FDG PET and PET/CT imaging in this study. When a fatcontaining tumor in the kidney is found on a CT scan, it is critical to differentiate an AML from a malignant tumor including an RCC, liposarcoma, and Wilms tumor. This study suggests that FDG PET or PET/CT imaging is useful for differentiating a renal AML from a fat-containing malignant tumor.

      • Perceptual Quality Driven Frame-Rate Selection (PQD-FRS) for High-Frame-Rate Video

        Huang, Qin,Jeong, Se Yoon,Yang, Shanglin,Zhang, Dichen,Hu, Sudeng,Kim, Hui Yong,Choi, Jin Soo,Kuo, C.-C. Jay IEEE 2016 IEEE transactions on broadcasting Vol.62 No.3

<P>Video of higher frame rates (HFR) reduces the visual artifact in large screen display at the cost of a higher coding bit rate (or transmission bandwidth). In this work, we propose a perceptual quality driven frame rate selection (PQD-FRS) method that assigns a time-varying frame rate to a sequence so as to reduce its transmission cost. The objective of the PQD-FRS method is to offer perceptually indistinguishable experience for a certain percentage of viewers. We first conduct a subjective test to characterize the relationship between human perceived quality and video contents, and build a frame-rate-dependent video quality assessment dataset to serve as the ground truth. Then, we use a machine learning approach for the design of the key module of the PQD-FRS method, called the 'satisfied user ratio (SUR) prediction.' The SUR prediction module predicts the percentage of satisfied viewers, who cannot differentiate video quality of a lower and HFR, using the support vector regression. It is confirmed by experimental results that the proposed SUR module can offer a so highly accurate prediction that the PQD-FRS system can dynamically assign a proper frame rate to video without any perceptual quality degradation for a majority of viewers.</P>

Transaxillary Capsulorrhaphy with Reimplantation to Correct Bottoming-Out Deformity in Breast Mycobacterial Periprosthetic Infection: A Case Report with Literature Review

        Huang Tsung-Chun,Lee Jian-Jr,Yang Kuo-Hui,Chou Chia-Huei,Chang Yu-Chen 대한성형외과학회 2023 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.50 No.6

Augmentation mammoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries, but there is a high reoperation rate (29.7%) commonly due to capsular contracture, implant malpositioning, infection, and unsatisfactory size. Although infection only accounts for 2% of cases, its management is very challenging, especially with nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infection. Breast prosthetic NTM infection is a rare but is a disastrous condition with an incidence of approximately 0.013%. Immediate salvage reimplantation is usually not suggested, and most studies recommend a gap of 3 to 6 months after combination antibiotics therapy before reimplantation. However, delayed reimplantation often leads to great psychological stress and struggle between the doctor and patient. We present the case report of successful reimplantation in treating prosthetic NTM infections in a 28-year-old female. We discuss a novel technique “transaxillary capsulorrhaphy” to correct the bottoming-out deformity. One year after the combination of antibiotics and surgery, the follow-up computed tomography scan showed complete remission of NTM without recurrence. We discuss the surgical technique in detail. The 1-year follow-up assessment (photos and dynamic video) revealed good cosmesis and reliable correction using the new technique. This report is the first formal description and discussion of one-stage reimplantation following NTM infections. Transaxillary capsulorrhaphy allows for a successful salvage operation when an implant is displaced. This approach provides highly favorable result in eastern women undergoing revision augmentation mammoplasty. This study reflects level of evidence V, considering opinions of respected authorities based on clinical experience, descriptive studies, or reports of expert committees.
