It is shown that polarization singularities of a new type, namely U and P singularities, arise at thetransverse cross section of a partially coherent beam, instead of the common singularities such as C pointsand L lines in a completely coherent vector field. A relationship between the two kind of singularitieswith respect to intensity is proposed. We also present a setup that can generate the new singularities, andany desired distribution of degree of polarization, using intensity control.

Ultrasonic inspection of austenitic steel weldments is a truly difficult task due to complicated wave propagation phenomena such as beam skewing, splitting and distortion. In order to understand these phenomena and design proper inspection procedures, simulation is increasingly paid more attention to. This article addresses a ray tracing based approach to determine incident angle and position of optimal wave mode ultrasonic beam for flaw detection in anisotropic and inhomogeneous austenitic steel weldments. Specially, the optimal mode of ultrasonic wave wave is selected by ray tracing simulation, and an optimization approach based on ray tracing and bi-section search is proposed in order to find the ray path connecting two given points in weldments. With help of this approach, the optimal incident angle and position of ultrasonic beam can be determined for a given flaw position.

Background: Xylazole (Xyl) is a veterinary anesthetic that is structurally and functionally similar to xylazine. However, the effects of Xyl in vitro remain unknown. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the anesthetic mechanism of Xyl using fetal rat nerve cells treated with Xyl. Methods: Fetal rat nerve cells cultured for seven days were treated with 10, 20, 30, and 40 μg/ mL Xyl for 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 min. Variations of amino acid neurotransmitters (AANTs), Nitric oxide-Cyclic GMP (NO-cGMP) signaling pathway, and ATPase were evaluated. Results: Xyl decreased the levels of cGMP and NO in nerve cells. Furthermore, Xyl affected the AANT content and Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-Mg2+-ATPase activity in nerve cells. These findings suggested that Xyl inhibited the NO-cGMP signaling pathway in nerve cells in vitro. Conclusions: This study provided new evidence that the anesthetic and analgesic effects of Xyl are related to the inhibition of the NO-cGMP signaling pathway.

CeOx/C supported PtCu thin film catalysts were prepared by ion beam sputtering (IBS) and subsequently annealed at 400℃ under vacuum environment and electrochemically dealloyed. Scanning transmission electronic microscope (STEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM) characterizations show that the surface of post-processed catalyst presents nanoporous structure and has a high root mean square roughness ( RMS=13.9 nm). Electrochemical measurements indicate that the post-processed PtCu – CeOx/C catalyst shows higher catalytic activity towards hydrogen evolution reaction than pure Pt/C. While inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) analysis displays that the platinum (Pt) loading of the post-processed PtCu – CeOx/C is 0.1192 mg/cm2, decreasing by 20% compare to pure Pt/C (0.1490 mg/cm2). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis confirms that the surface of post-processed PtCu – CeOx/C enrich Pt and analyzes the chemical valence of Pt element using depth profiling technology. It can be inferred that the enhancement in catalytic property is attributed to the combined action between geometric structure effect and electronic modification effect of Pt atoms from CeOx support.
Opportunistic Routing for Bandwidth-Sensitive Traffic in Wireless Networks with Lossy Links
Zhao, Peng,Yang, Xinyu The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2016 Journal of communications and networks Vol.18 No.5
Opportunistic routing (OR) has been proposed as a viable approach to improve the performance of wireless multihop networks with lossy links. However, the exponential growth of the bandwidth-sensitive mobile traffic (e.g., mobile video streaming and online gaming) poses a great challenge to the performance of OR in term of bandwidth guarantee. To solve this problem, a novel mechanism is proposed to opportunistically forwarding data packets and provide bandwidth guarantee for the bandwidth-sensitive traffic. The proposal exploits the broadcast characteristic of wireless transmission and reduces the negative effect of wireless lossy links. First, the expected available bandwidth (EAB) and the expected transmission cost (ETC) under OR are estimated based on the local available bandwidth, link delivery probability, forwarding candidates, and prioritization policy. Then, the policies for determining and prioritizing the forwarding candidates is devised by considering the bandwidth and transmission cost. Finally, bandwidth-aware routing algorithm is proposed to opportunistically delivery data packets; meanwhile, admission control is applied to admit or reject traffic flows for bandwidth guarantee. Extensive simulation results show that our proposal consistently outperforms other existing opportunistic routing schemes in providing performance guarantee.
Surveillant: a supervision mechanism between blockchains for efficient cross-chain verification
Xinyu Liang,Jing Chen,Ruiying Du,Tianrui Zhao 한국인터넷정보학회 2022 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.16 No.8
Blockchain interoperability, which refers in particular to the ability to access information across blockchain systems, plays the key role for different blockchains to communicate with each other, and further supports the superstructure built on top of the cross-chain mechanism. Nowadays, blockchain interoperability technology is still in its infancy. The existing cross-chain scheme such as BTCRelay requires that the smart contract in a blockchain to download and maintain block headers of the other blockchain, which is costly in maintenance and inefficient to use. In this paper, we propose a supervision mechanism between blockchains, called Surveillant. Specially, the new entities called dual-functional nodes are introduced to commit the real-time information from the blockchain under supervision to the supervising blockchain, which enables users to have efficient cross-chain verification. Furthermore, we introduce Merkle mountain range for blocks aggregation to deal with the large-scale committing data. We propose the design of long orphan branch counter to trace the bifurcations in the blockchain under supervision. The existing incentive mechanism is improved to encourage the behaviors of dual-functional nodes. In Surveillant, the analysis and experimental results demonstrate that users are able to have efficient cross-chain verification with low maintenance overhead.

Background T -cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is considered a malignant tumor with a high mortality rate. To combat this disease, exploring the mechanism of T-ALL progression is urgently needed. Krüppel-like factors (KLFs) are known as the transcription factors and mediate series of biological processes. KLF9 is a member of the KLF family which could serve as a tumor suppressor gene in most solid tumors. GEO Database analysis showed that KLF9 expression in normal T cells was higher than T-ALL cell lines and patients. However, the possible role of KLF9 in T-ALL progression is still unclear. Objective To uncover the possible eff ects of Krüppel-like transcription factor 9 (KLF9) on the progression of T-Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). Results The expression of KLF9 was low in human T-ALL cells. KLF9 suppressed the viability of T-ALL cells. In addition, KLF9 stimulated the apoptosis as well as autophagy of T-ALL cells. Mechanically, KLF9 suppressed AKT/mTOR pathway in T-ALL cells. Conclusion KLF9 suppressed viability and promoted autophagy as well as apoptosis in T-ALL cells by inhibiting AKT/ mTOR pathway.
