Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) technique is effective to improve the capacity and coverage of various networks. However, the practical RIS has dissimilar responses to signals in different frequencies due to its structure. Therefore, directly applying existing schemes to multi-band heterogeneous networks leads to beam misalignment and performance degra- dation issues. This paper considers RIS-assisted multi-band heterogeneous networks where base stations (BSs) use different frequencies. We formulate the problem for maximizing the sum rate of all users (SR) in every frequency band, and aim to jointly design BSs precoding vectors and RIS parameters while taking user choices into account. Based on the closed-form relationship of phase shifts between frequencies, an iterative algo- rithm is proposed to solve the challenging non-convex problems. In particular, we use fractional programming to decouple the problem, and solve the subproblems with Quadratic Transform (QT) and Genetic Algorithm (GA). Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can significantly improve SR among all frequency bands, which could instruct the coexistence of mul- tiple communication systems in future heterogeneous networks. What’s more, results also prove that deploying RISs recklessly will result in a degradation of the network.

The additive manufacturing of titanium alloy parts has important scientific significance and practical value. Controllingthe distribution of residual stress caused by the high cooling rate and temperature gradient is the key to regulating the performanceof devices obtained from additive manufacturing. In this work, the effects of the interlayer scanning angle on theresidual stress in Ti–6Al–4V parts manufactured by selective laser melting were investigated by finite element simulations. We studied how changing the interlayer deflection angle alleviated residual stress under different energy inputs. The resultsshowed that the residual stress in the z-direction was reduced by the deflection angle of 67° and 90°, and the non-uniformdistribution of residual stress was reduced by a deflection angle of 67°. The combination of a chessboard pattern and interlayerdeflection angle greatly alleviated the generation of residual stress. This work has important guiding significance forthe additive manufacturing design of high-quality and high-performance titanium alloy devices.

Recently, Peng et al. proposed a primal-dual interior-point method with new search direction and self-regular proximity for LP. This new large-update method has the currently best theoretical performance with polynomial complexity of O(n<수식> log <수식>). In this paper we use this search direction to propose a primal-dual interior-point method for con- vex quadratic programming (QP). We overcome the difficulty in analyz- ing the complexity of the primal-dual interior-point methods for convex quadratic programming, and obtain the same polynomial O(n<수식> log <수식>) for convex quadratic programming. Recently, Peng et al. proposed a primal-dual interior-point method with new search direction and self-regular proximity for LP. This new large-update method has the currently best theoretical performance with polynomial complexity of O($n^{\frac{q+1}{2q}}\;{\log}\;{\frac{n}{\varepsilon}}$). In this paper we use this search direction to propose a primal-dual interior-point method for convex quadratic programming (QP). We overcome the difficulty in analyzing the complexity of the primal-dual interior-point methods for convex quadratic programming, and obtain the same polynomial complexity of O($n^{\frac{q+1}{2q}}\;{\log}\;{\frac{n}{\varepsilon}}$) for convex quadratic programming.

Polysaccharide from Schisandra chinensis has the effect of lowering blood glucose and improving insulin resistance (IR). However, its underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, a rat model of type 2 diabetes (T2D) was created to explore whether S. chinensis acidic polysaccharide (SCAP) would improve the IR in T2D rats by inhibiting inflammation. A combination of a high-fat diet and low dose of streptozotocin (STZ, 30 mg/kg, intraperitoneally) were administered to rats for establishing the T2D model. Then, these T2D rats were orally administered with SCAP (25, 50, or 100 mg/kg) for 8 weeks. The results indicated that SCAP significantly lowered the fasting blood glucose, elevated the fasting insulin, and improved glucose tolerance. SCAP also decreased the serum interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), C-reactive protein (CRP), and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) levels, as well as their mRNA expression in the liver tissue. Further, SCAP significantly inhibited the upregulation of phosphorylated c-Jun N-terminal kinase (p-JNK) and NF-κB protein, and it increased phosphorylated insulin receptor substrate-1 (p-IRS-1), phosphorylated phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (p-PI3K), and phosphorylated protein kinase B (p-AKT) protein expression levels significantly. These results suggest that SCAP improves the IR in T2D rats by inhibiting inflammation.

Liver metastasis is a major cause of death in gastric cancer patients, but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Through a combination of in vivo screening and transcriptome profiling followed by quantitative RT-PCR and tissue array analyses, we found that mitogen-activated protein kinase 4 (MAPK4) downregulation in gastric cancer tissues from patients is significantly associated with liver metastasis and poor prognosis. The knockdown of MAPK4 in gastric cancer cells promotes liver metastasis in orthotopic mouse models. MAPK4 depletion in gastric cancer cells induces the secretion of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) to polarize tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in orthotopic xenograft tumors. Moreover, TAMs activate epithelial–mesenchymal transition of gastric cancer cells to suppress MAPK4 expression, which further increases MIF secretion to polarize TAMs. Taken together, our results suggest a previously undescribed positive feedback loop between cancer cells and macrophages mediated by MAPK4 silencing that facilitates gastric cancer liver metastasis.

Meningitis caused by Streptococcus suis serotype 2 (S. suis 2) is a great threat to the pig industry and human health. Virulence factors associated with the pathogenesis of meningitis have yet to be clearly defined, even though many potential S. suis 2 virulence factors have been identified. This greatly hinders the progress of S. suis 2 meningitis pathogenesis research. In this study, a co-culture blood-brain barrier (BBB) model was established using primary porcine brain microvascular endothelial cells and astrocytes, and the whole genome library of S. suis 2 was constructed using phage display technology. Finally, a total of 14 potential virulence factors contributing to S. suis 2 adherence to and invasion of the BBB were selected by analyzing the interactions between the phage library and the co-culture model. Twelve of these factors have not been previously reported in meningitis-related research. The data provide valuable insight into the pathogenesis of S. suis 2 meningitis and potential targets for the development of drug therapies.

Free radical accumulation in the body will cause oxidative stress damages including the renal damage. Schisandrae Sphenantherae Fructus (Schisandra), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, has been used throughout the world. Anwulignan, a monomer extracted from Schisandra, has been shown in our previous studies to possess antioxidant and protective effects on the liver, brain and spleen damages in the aging mice. However, its effect on the renal damage caused by aging is not clear. This study showed that anwulignan could significantly increase the kidney index, the creatinine clearance, the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase; reduce the urinary protein concentration, the serum urea nitrogen and creatinine content, the content of malondialdehyde and 8-hydroxylated deoxyguanosine in the renal tissue; and improve the renal tissue damage. Moreover, anwulignan increased the production of Nrf2, HO-1 and NQO1 proteins and decreased the production level of Keap1 protein in the renal tissue in the D-galactose induced aging mice. These results suggest that anwulignan significantly alleviates the renal damage by its antioxidant effect through regulating the production of Nrf2/ARE pathway-related proteins in the renal tissue in the D-galactose induced aging mice.
